Escape with your partner or best friend to this vacation cottage in the heart of this historic Montana ski community in Red Lodge. You will enjoy the privacy and peaceful aura of this cozy cottage. Perfect for two, but accommodates four.
Stay in and enjoy a romantic meal that you've prepared in this well appointed kitchen or venture out and enjoy our classic Montana town and as you take in the sites whether it be in town or venturing beyond the town you feel that warm Montana hospitality around you. No matter what your plans maybe from quiet and intimate to adventure and fun or a social night life, the Red Lodge area has it all.
A great location, just 1 block from the Main street with mountain views. An easy walk to acclaimed restaurants, local micro brews, unique shops and all the charm that Red Lodge has to offer.
Just an hour drive from Billings and an easy drive to Yellowstone National Park, the Scenic Beartooth Highway, the Stillwater and in the winter great skiing at Red Lodge Mountain Ski Resort.
Both of us are originally from Great Falls, Montana but oddly enough didn't know each other at that time, until we met in Billings in 2010 and is where we currently reside.
Nancy L Merkel purchased this cottage in 2006
We love the outdoors and the unique feel that Red Lodge has to offer, it's not like a big city but is close enough to Billings that we can get away from it all without going a long way to get there. We fell in love with the house when we purchased it and have since added to it to make it very enjoyable and relaxing. We enjoy sightseeing, riding our motorcycles, ATV riding and camping so this is just the place to be.
Wildlife is abundant in the area from wild turkeys, birds of many varieties, deer, moose and even bears. The view from the picture window is amazing when the light hits the mountain just right and the warmth and cozy atmosphere the we've created inside and outside the cottage is something that keeps us coming back.
We stayed again last week for a four night getaway at the Escape to the Sun cottage, as we enjoyed
our stay last May. Nancy and Al have provided all the little touches that make a place feel like home.
The well stocked kitchen includes all the dishes and cookware one would need, and the refrigerator
even had a half dozen eggs to get one started. The queen bed was comfy and warm. Even the bathroom
cabinet was stocked with some toiletries should one forget their own. The good size private deck with the
chiminea kept the night chill off while we grilled our dinner. The in town location made it easy to
leave the car at the cottage and walk downtown to the local shops and restaurants. Our visitor's
dog had a nice fenced in yard to roam in as well. We look forward to staying again next year!
We spent three nights at "Escape to the Sun" with the plan to do some hiking around Yellowstone. We had a great escape, but missed the sun. We were very pleased with how well equipped the cottage is. The kitchen had everything we wished for, including coffee and a grinder. Everything was clean and in good working order. Nancy was responsive on the one question we had. There was a binder provided with exceptionally detailed instructions for all appliances, as well as local information. No hesitation in recommending "Escape to the Sun".
This cottage is perfect for couples and do I hope to return with my husband some day. In town with a friend this visit for a dog agility trial and this location was in convenient proximity to the YDS facility.
Wonderful was the location of this place being a very short block to the main street in town, Broadway. Easy to walk the small and charming town of Red Lodge. Everyone was so friendly and laid back, very relaxing. Best part is being literally moments drive from the cottage and wham, you are in the beautiful mountains. We spent most of our time outdoors at the cottage in the pretty backyard, grilled the best steaks we ever had (ribeye from the Rocky Mountain Market on Broadway "Montana beef", the guy stated). Our drive through the Beartooth Pass was breathtaking.
The cottage itself was impeccably clean, beds very comfy, kitchen well-appointed. Fenced-in yard was great to keep the dog contained when the turkey and deer passed by daily. Lovely chiminea fireplace warmed up the evenings. Very safe feeling neighborhood which we walked around often.
Very enjoyable stay and cannot think of any way it could have been better! Thanks for the opportunity to share this vacation home!
Nancy's cottage is the perfect place to stay in Red Lodge. The towels in the bathroom are very luxurious, and she has provided bathrobes too! The TV is nice and there are books and CDs. I even liked the window shades--super easy to operate.
This cozy cottage has everything. Need fingernail polish remover, or a hairdryer or curling iron? She provides it. Need special seasoning for your entrée? Need dressing for your salad? It's all there. Every condiment you can think of has been provided, as well as every type of cookware or serving ware. There are cleaning supplies, a broom, a pile of rags/towels, an iron and ironing board and a full length mirror. It really is like your own house. Plus it's so cute. The cottage is perfectly located too. I parked and walked anytime I wanted to "go to town". I only drive to the grocery store and to my hikes. Nancy even provides travel mugs if you do take a drive somewhere. There are catalogs and brochures of nearby activities and maps too!
This cottage is so thoughtfully put together you can't help but admire the care that has gone into making this a wonderful place to relax.
We totally enjoyed our stay at "Escape to the Sun". We found the cottage exactly as stated in the VRBO listing with many personal touches to make it feel like home away from home. It was clean and well maintained and we had good communications from Nancy, the owner. Red Lodge is a fun community and we had a great time at a wedding, the purpose of our trip. Our favorite place to eat was Cafe Regis.
If you're looking for a great little cozy cottage for a long weekend get away in beautiful Red Lodge, "Escape to the Sun" cottage is a great choice. Nancy does a wonderful job of preparing for your arrival with a clean, well stocked experience - even a DVD library for a family movie night! The kitchen was perfect for those nights that you don't want to enjoy the culinary splendors of Red Lodge or Roscoe, and came equipped with everything needed to prepare a nice meal. The deck and outdoor fireplace, enjoyed with a nice bottle of wine, exemplifies the laid back freshness of this wonderful mountain town. If you're bringing your furry friend along, the fenced in yard and pet suite were perfect to keep them safe and happy. We'll be back!
On a side note, if you haven't already, take the drive down to (Where the Hell is) Roscoe and enjoy a fabulous steak and shrimp dinner at the Grizzly Bar. The experience is well worth the 30 minute drive West of Red Lodge.
