Overview

About the property

Spacious but cosy traditional Cornish cottage close to beach

MARTHA'S HARBOUR is a spacious but cosy traditional Cornish cottage situated in the heart of the small hamlet of Treknow. About a mile from the beautiful sandy beach at Trebarwith Strand and a mile and a half from historic Tintagel. The coastal path is just up the lane and offers spectacular views over the surrounding coastline.

The property has been totally renovated by the new owners over the last 2 years and now provides a very contemporary 'New England' style property with generous sized rooms, high ceilings and tasteful furnishings. The property is nestled in the heart of the hamlet but is very secluded with a high garden wall all around.

The accommodation offers a light and airy, open- planned lounge/kitchen/dining room with views over the garden, wood burner in dining area, ample seating and well equipped kitchen. The TV has freeview provided and there is also internet access. DVD player too.

There are three bedrooms, two on the ground floor have 'zip and link' beds which can be made up either as a double or twin singles, and one bedroom on the first floor with a double bed. All bedrooms have window shutters for complete privacy.

The upstairs bedroom has an en-suite bathroom (bath with shower over, basin and WC) and there is also a shower room downstairs (large shower enclosure, basin and WC).

There is a useful, spacious entrance lobby (probably once the kitchen as it has the original cast iron range) where you can store beach gear and surfboards.

Outside there is a pretty and private garden, surrounded by a high wall and laid to patio paving and borders.

In addition, at the entrance to the cottage is a small courtyard and outbuilding where guests could safely store any outdoor items.

There is no private parking space for the cottage but cars may be parked on the roadside anywhere in the village and one may be parked in the farmer's field just up the lane.

All costs for electricity included in rental prices.

Heating via remotely controlled electric radiators.

Logs not provided for wood burner but easily available locally in small quantities.

Bed linen and house towels (not beach towels) provided (except for travel cot if required).

Kitchen has all usual facilities plus dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and large fridge freezer.

One medium or two small sized dogs will be considered if you send details with your enquiry.

We request a breakage/damage/excess cleaning deposit of £100 per booking which will be refunded (according to cleanliness and standard of property) after your departure. We hope visitors will appreciate that the need for this deposit reflects the very high standard of accommodation provided.

A delightful and very comfortable property.

  • 5 of 5

This is a delightful house that has been renovated to a very high standard and with great attention to detail. It is refreshing to stay in a dog-friendly house that is furnished and fitted so well and so comfortably. We look forward to staying here again. Linda and Richard Davis.

Beautiful accommodation in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for allowing us to stay at Martha’s Harbour for five weeks! Your beautiful house was perfectly equipped for our family of five, and the location was absolutely perfect as we were able to frequent our favourite beach ‘Trebarwith Strand’ several times a day. We have relished the varied walks down to the coast and in to Tintagel. Martha’s Harbour is the quintessential holiday house for this idyllic cornish location. It is spacious and light, with a lovely open plan layout which has been decorated beautifully. Thank also for the beautiful personalised towel for our dog Leonardo which you ordered specially - it was such a lovely touch.

Excellent stay at Martha's Habour!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had another excellent stay at Martha's Harbour (2nd stay in a year). Great home from home, very clean, well maintained and with all the essential kitchen equipments. Good location for exploring North Cornwall, good access to the coastal path and the beach which the kids love. Although, need to be a little fit for the walk back from the beach! But you can always drive.

Wonderful experience all round - thank you!!

Luxurious and top quality - fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time here, a perfect coastal retreat, ideally situated for great walks and places to visit. A real 'home from home' with everything you could need for a relaxing stay, so cosy and welcoming that it was a joy to return to each day. Beautifully appointed open -plan kitchen, delightful decor throughout and very comfortable beds.

Would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Prima Unterkunft, Wohlfühlatmosphäre, very cosy

  • 5 of 5

Trebarwith Strand
Car: recommended

Martha's Harbour is situated in the small village of Treknow which overlooks the Trebarwith valley. Properties here are between 10 and 20 minutes walk from the beach.

Nearby Tintagel is a small holiday town famous for King Arthur’s castle and offers much in the way of historic interest. There are several shops here and many pubs and cafes offering a good selection of places to eat out. And of course the Old Post Office which is a fascinating glimpse into a past way of life.

The nearest beach at Trebarwith Strand is about a mile away by road and connected by the coastal path, which surrounds Cornwall. The coast path is easily accessible offering lovely walks with beautiful cliff scenery. Trebarwith is a valley with one road leading to a sandy beach. There are two car parks making this beach easy to get to. At high tide, the beach is completely covered ensuring up to a mile of clean sand at low tide. There are two pubs in Trebarwith both offering good meals. The Port William overlooks the bay and the Mill House is set in a wooded valley.

There are several good sandy beaches within easy driving distance, Daymer Bay, Polzeath, Bude and Widemouth Bay to name but a few. Boscastle and Port Isaac offer fishing and sailing trips. Excellent golf facilities exist in nearby Camelford, Rock and Launceston. Cycle along the Camel Trail (cycle hire available in Wadebridge and Padstow). Visit the wonderful Eden Project, about 45 minutes by road. There are a host of tourist attractions all within easy reach for days out from Lands End to West Devon, and Bodmin Moor is only five miles away.

Art lovers will enjoy the many local craft centres and the Tate Gallery at St. Ives.

History addicts will run out of time before exploring all the churches and museums.

Literature fans can enjoy finding out about Thomas Hardy’s and Daphne du Maurier’s links with this part of the country.

For a selection of walking routes in the area have a look at www.iwalknorthcornwall.co.uk

Or you could just spend all day on the beach!
