I have had the pleasure of spending summers at this 'cottage' since the mid 80's. It is now a place that my son can enjoy and we are looking forward to sharing it with you.
Deirdre Billes purchased this cottage in 1987
This place has been the favorite vacation home for our international family for decades. Site Manager Howard Dorr is a delight to work with both as a welcoming host and a local fix-it / build it expert.
Sublime quiet provided by being at the end of the road on a large forested property.
Beautiful venue for small wedding.
Ideal for Small Executive Planning Sessions, Team Building Retreats. (We can help you find caterers). Lots of activities can take place concurrently here, without feeling over crowded.
Pristine home with full amenities, fantastic view, privacy, and wonderful water access. I highly recommend (though hesitate only to keep it a secret for future vacations)! We had 12 people and were beyond comfortable and in awe of the cleanliness and accommodations. Truly more than we imagined. Floating swimming dock a refuge for teenagers. Two fire pits to accommodate the small and larger parties. Boat house to fish, kayak, and keep a boat for sightseeing, fishing, and tubing. Best place we have stayed in 1000 Islands by far.
10 of us college friends who have had reunions 12 times over the past 50 years, just spent a wonderful long weekend at Rock Baie Retreat. We have had our reunions in 12 different places from Colorado to South Carolina and in between. This is by far the very BEST place we have ever stayed in. Couldn't get a better owner or caretaker!!!! The caretaker was always available, (not that anything went wrong), and he was friendly and informative. The accommodations can't be beat.....everything needed is provided (except food). The place is spotless inside and out. Even though many nearby places close in the fall, we had no problem finding interesting and good places to eat and visit....wine tasting, golf, shopping in Clayton, fishing, sight seeing all around the island, walking, sunset viewing, BBQing, antique buying and, privacy......... We're making reservations for next year and highly recommend this amazing jewel !!! ***** + (that's 5 stars plus)
My children and I have been to Rock Baie Retreat for many times. It is like a second home for us. The views from the property are stunning. The house is roomy, welcoming and has everything one could ask for and more. The location on private waterfront and acres of wooded landed is amazing.
We have stayed at Rock Baie as one family and also with two and more families, with babies, toddlers, young children, teenagers, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 somethings, and the elderly. The indoor living space allows for any combination of people to stay in comfort and luxury. The property outdoors is a mix of landscaped and natural areas, with a spectacular wrap-around deck and acres and acres of hiking-friendly terrain. The house is just over one kilometre (about 0.7 miles) from the main road; the access road is well maintained and is perfect for a daily run (or walk). The waterfront is located on a bay of the St. Lawrence and has the feel of a big lake. We love the new swimming dock in the water and the natural shoreline. Cooking, baking and eating are feature activities for us here. So are card and board games, puzzles and movie watching. There is a huge grocery store within 5 minutes' drive, and the Canadian border is 10 minutes north.
We have visited here in every season of the year, and the beauty of each is spectacular. The autumn colours are lovely. The snow covered outdoors in the winter invite outdoor play. The spring is tranquil. And the summer offers the widest range of activities.
I cannot say enough good about the owner. Both she and the property manager are extremely helpful and make every effort to accommodate us and help make every stay memorable.
It has been amazing to see the changes and additions at the property. We have always thought that Rock Baie Retreat is amazing, and it keeps getting better!
My recommendation of this home and property to others is absolute. We plan to return regularly.
The pictures you see here do not do the place justice. While they are beautiful, to actually be there is breathtaking! A whole group of us came up on our bikes and the man who met us there and explained the property and the house to us was very friendly and extremely helpful. The view, the accommodations and the wonderful time we had there are beyond words for me. It was very close to the grocery store and Alexandria Bay. I would recommend this place to everyone. It was by far, the nicest place I ever stayed on a vacation. We stayed for 3 nights. Next time we will make it a week!
The owner was very gracious in allowing us to have our wedding and reception at this spectacular Lake of the Isles retreat. The views, amenities, handicap accessiblility, flower gardens, decks, pool... all made it a huge success. The caretaker went above and beyond to make sure our stay was seemless. One in a million place to stay in the 1000 Islands !
This was one of the homes we rented in the Thousand Island Vicinity for a family reunion and Rock Baie Retreat home made our get together all the more memorable. Beautifully maintained property (indoors and outdoors) and very well furnished to accommodate a large group. Entry way and the main living space is gorgeous and beautifully decorated. The tree house dining room was a hot spot for card and board games. The waterfront view is spectacular, the multiple fire pits on the property, the swing set on the side, fishing dock, hammock, swimming dock and the beautiful rock garden by the garage - all of this made for a good time outdoors.
The owner and property manager were wonderful to work with. They invested a lot of time to prepare the place for our visit and were so helpful throughout the planning stages, check in and check out process. We did offer some suggestions to the owner to invest in a new BBQ grill and outdoor lighting and it is being considered.
The only thing we were not prepared for was cell phone coverage issues. Being so close to the US-Canada border we had challenge with AT&T triggering roaming service or Sprint not having any service at all while on the property. Verizon worked well. Given the limited internet availability and phone carrier challenges it did pose some communication challenges BUT it did not stop us from having fun over the weekend.
We have rented quite a few homes on past vacations and if we are back in the Thousand Island area again we will definitely look to rent this property. I would strongly recommend this home to others considering a home away from home.
Enjoy the fantastic Winery Tours, go under in crystal clear waters to wreck dive, have a professional fishing guide pick you up at our dock and drift along on the main channel of the river. Take in the Clayton Wooden Boat Museum tour, tromp our private 50 forested acres or work out in our resistance pool, take in a round of golf on-island, then light an evening fire and see thousands of stars come out to the sounds of loon calls. Year round access. Ice fishing, snowshoeing, all possible from this very comfortable lakeside home in the woods. This location is an ideal setting for an executive planning retreat.
