About Joan O'Connell
We are a couple in our mid-50's (yes, the photo is from a long time ago ...) We fell in love with Orvieto on our first visit more than ten years ago. We travel extensively and are always happy to return to Orvieto, our Italian home-away-from-home as frequently as we can.
Joan O'Connell purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Joan O'Connell chose Orvieto
Our apartment in Orvieto is small but perfectly formed and an ideal location from which to explore Umbria and Tuscany. It is located only a few steps from the Piazzo Popolo, Corso Cavour and the Duomo. From the sun-drenched terrace there is a fantastic view of the Umbrian countryside. Inside the apartment is very cosy and comfortable. It is well stocked with music, books and dvds. The kitchen has all the modern conveniences one would expect. The bed is comfortable and there is a large wardrobe and bureau for storage.
What makes this Apartment unique
Orvieto is the perfect location from which to explore Tuscany and Umbria. It is about halfway between Florence and Rome, just off a major highway and train line. The wonderful towns of Sienna, Perugia, Todi, Assisi, Monte Falco, Montepulciano are all less than an hours' drive. The Mediterranean Sea is two hours' drive.

I stayed in this home for three nights and couldn't of asked for a better place. This home is located in a quiet little area of Orvieto, with only a few minute walk to the restaurants, shops, and a little wine tasting within the town. The home was well furnished and very clean. It also has a great roof top terrace with a nice view. If you're looking for something special, this is the place!
Superb apartment----- deserves SIX stars
This apartment is beautifully furnished and decorated. The kitchen is fully equipped and stocked with basic supplies. The deck is large, private, in the sun all day, with an expansive overlook out on beautiful Umbrian countryside.
The decor was sophisticated and lively. It was well and tastefully furnished.
There is an INCREDIBLE library--- travel guide books, and books about Italy in particular but a great collection of other books as well. We wanted to stay on just to read some of this great stuff!!
It is in a quiet building in a quiet neighborhood but just a 5 minute walk to the town center.
Orvieto itself is beautiful and interesting, and also is surrounded by dozens of other interesting sites, within an easy drive. A great headquarters for visiting Umbria and Tuscany
The owner was most helpful and attentive before and during our visit. The local lady who met us and got us settled in was also very cheerful and helpful.
We have been in 6 different apartments in our 4 weeks in Italy-- this one is our favorite by far---- we'd love to go back and stay for weeks------ or months-- if we could!!!!
Thank you very much. We have attempted to create a comfortable and inviting living space in this apartment for the enjoyment and relaxation of our visitors. We are very appreciative of your kind words and look forward to seeing you back again soon!
A cozy home in Orvieto
This apartment is comfortable, well-furnished with lots of books, CD's, and DVD's, clean, and convenient. The owners helped me through a quagmire of requirements for my visa application, willingly, kindly, and effectively. The apartment is in a newer building (probably early '70's) with very congenial neighbors and is five minutes walk to Piazza della Repubblica. Lots of restaurants and shops in easy reach, with an entrance to the beautiful Anello della Rupe (a hiking trail around the town at the cliffs' base) right across the street. I overwintered there and loved it. The kitchen is small and challenging, but that didn't bother me until I'd been there four or five months when I began to grow lazy; but I kept on cooking just the same. The apartment is a very serviceable home base for your adventures in Umbria, parking in an adjacent piazza, a lovely walk to the funicular via the elegant Passeggiata Confaloniera. I recommend heartily!
LONGING TO RETURN IN JUNE
For the third summer in a row we have had the good fortune to stay in this wonderful rooftop apartment where we now have so many memories of Umbria, Tuscany and Italy itself. When we walk through Joan and Greg's door we feel so embraced by their lovely home. The first thing that we always do is rush out to the terrace to recapture the deep sigh of the Spectacular Umbrian valley below. The Apartment, itself,is fully equipped with everything from a modern kitchen, laundry, full library of wonderful books, DVD's and the possibility of spending many quiet hours without even leaving.Orvieto,"The Queen of all the Hilltowns" surrounds the apt. and with just a 5 minute walk one can be in the center of the Old Town. The apt has served as our hub for travelling all of Italy. Orvieto provides great train and bus service for a long weekend or a day trip to Rome.and the apt includes a parking space! Without hesitation we recommend this rare find in Umbria! Book now!!
A wonderful apartment in Orvieto!
Centrally located, a few minutes walk from the Duomo and museums, this one bedroom apartment was a wonderful place to stay. It was immaculately clean, with a small but well outfitted kitchen and a large deck overlooking the hills. A small parking space and a separate laundry area is included. The owners were very accommodating, and in addition have provided a large library of novels, music and guidebooks as well as their own suggestions for restaurants and day trips from Orvieto. This is a great location from which to explore this part of Italy!
Perfect apartment in Orvieto
We spent a lovely week in this wonderful, fully equipped en very comfortable apartment. We enjoyed the large, sunny terrace, which always provided some shade, and were very pleased with the private parking space. The nearness of the city centre made this a perfect place to stay in this beautiful, medieval town.
Orvieto's origins go back to the Etruscan civilization: the first Etruscan settlements, going back to the 9th Century BC, in fact, were found inside the Tufaceous caves in the bedrock upon which today rises the city.
Annexed in the 3rd Century BC to the territories of Rome, it remained under the Roman domination until the decline of the Western Roman Empire. Today it remains a fascinating town to visit. And it is the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful countryside and towns and villages of Umbria and neighbouring Tuscany. Less than 90 minutes from either Florence or Rome on the motorway. Orvieto is the 'Perfect Italian Holiday' location.
