About the property

Best of both worlds - near downtown, but across the river in an urban oasis

This fully furnished flat has a basement with full laundry and three beautifully finished stories above. The third story is a captive third bedroom (must go through master bedroom to get to it) or use as office/study.

The remodel was completed in 2014. Owner is investor that is holding on to the property. Just minutes from downtown (don't even have to get on the interstate!) this more subdued, yet hip, urban neighborhood is just the zen you will need to relax after a day on the job or visiting friends in the city.

PARKING: It's an urban area so I get a lot of questions about parking. Here's the answer - Directly in front of the house there are signs saying “Permit Parking Only” without a permit they may ticket you, but mostly between 930pm and 1030pm, especially on weekends. This is because it's near a restaurant district and residents don't like their customers to park in front of their homes. So it is for the residents' benefit, but even though I own this home, permits aren’t transferable from car to car, so I can’t get one for each one of my guests. That being said, I haven’t had any reports of tickets during the day or on Mon-Thurs. I have had reports of $45 tickets during busy restaurant hours Friday and Saturday usually around 8pm or 9pm. If you want another parking option, there is unrestricted street parking a couple blocks to the south, a little farther away from the restaurants on E Carson St.

Most people risk it and park right in front of the house. During a week stay they are generally getting one ticket, usually on Saturday. I used to pay the tickets, but then people were parking in no parking zones and fire hydrants and sending me the tickets so I don’t do that anymore.

About Spencer Lombardo

I'm a Commercial Real Estate Broker, home flipper and high-end landlord. I pride myself in my renovation work and love to add value to undervalued homes in otherwise trendy, urban areas.

Spencer Lombardo purchased this house in 2012

Why Spencer Lombardo chose Pittsburgh

I couldn't believe what I could buy property for this close to downtown Pittsburgh just a few years ago. I wasn't sure if I would flip it or sell it, but being so close to downtown I thought I would give it a try as a corporate/vacation rental. Any feedback guests have would be much appreciated!

What makes this house unique

Location, Location, Location.... and what beautiful finishes. Everything, and I mean everything, is brand new. It was a complete gut, so everything you can see or touch is brand new!

It is in the Southside neighborhood, just a couple blocks from trendy Carson Street. Perk up each morning by talking a walk to Starbucks; Be a foodie for a day and eat at one of Carson Street's many restaurants; or walk about 3/4 of a mile east on carson street to Southside works, a shopping, dining and entertainment experience including a movie theatre, cheesecake factory, BCBG, Sur La Table, Urban Outfitters, and more!

Great location, beautiful home, nice way to enjoy Pittsburgh!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks for a wonderful stay in Pittsburgh. This home is in a quiet neighborhood but close enough to things to do and see. (Near a bus route). The home was very comfortable and had numerous amenities to make it a great place for our family. The beds were comfortable, the A/C worked very well in the 90 degree heat:), and the home was obviously well cared for. We really loved it here. With a family of 5, it was a little difficult without having a true dining area, but we made do. The stairs were certainly as advertised (steep and a bit difficult to go down)... would be a little nervous for really young kids or people with any physical challenges. The only other thing to mention is parking. It's been said in numerous reviews so I was ready for it, but it was definitely a pain. I ended up parking in a pay zone on Mary St. and could reload the meter through an app. Be careful though as the rules for enforable times are different for M-Th than F-S.

Great location and nice unit

  • 4 of 5

Clean and comfy and very well located. Only criticism is that both set of stair are very steep and slippy--our daughter fell twice--and the living room could use a coffee table. Nice little porch out front for morning coffee. Thanks!

Nice home in a great location. There is a lot to do in the immediate area and not too long of a walk to downtown.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We were in the area for a wedding. We loved the convenience of walking to food and adult beverages! The bathroom comes fully stocked with ever kind of shampoo and body wash you could ever want. We really appreciated the supply of coffee and tea provided in the kitchen. We would definitely stay here again.

Great "home base" from which to explore Pittsburgh

  • 4 of 5

This property is beautifully appointed and clean, has lots of good living space and, as the owner promised, plenty of parking. We liked the neighborhood too and felt safe enough to go running with our kids during the day. Special bonus for the beautifully stocked toiletries and even some kitchen staples (who packs salt?? not us). We do caution anyone with small children (under 5) to bring gates if you rent and/or just don't choose this property because the stairs to the bedrooms are STEEP and the third floor bedroom ceiling is low enough to have been a problem during play time. Not a fault of the property, just a caution.

This row house is conveniently located, immaculate, and well-appointed!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Pittsburgh! This row house is an easy walk to the vibrant restaurants, bars, and shops of E. Carson Street, and conveniently located to all the Southside attractions and to Paints Arena where we attended a Penguins game. It's an easy drive in to the city and a nice retreat from the city as well. Parking near the row house is difficult but there is plenty of pay parking just a few short blocks away. The neighborhood is quiet and the row house is nicely decorated inside, immaculate, and well-appointed. We had everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay in Pittsburgh. Two suggestions may be more towel bars in the bathroom and another sofa instead of the futon in the living room, but neither detracted from our stay. We will definitely rent this place again!! Thank you for your hospitality!
