|Property type||chateau / country house|

Stunning privately owned Chateau in a hamlet, set in 4 acres & south facing. This is our family house, it is very private but not remote, looking out over open fields and vineyards. A super chateau if you are looking for a large house for 2 or 3 families to share or a holiday for an extended family with a large age range. It is in a quiet location with lots of space for children to kick footballs, hit tennis balls or ride bikes. But also plenty of private corners in which to read some of the hundreds of books or just sunbathe. Salon, dining room with open fire, well equipped kitchen, games room with table tennis and pool table, plus free wifi and satellite TV. 4 acres of private grounds with swimming pool, bikes, children’s area. The swimming pool is in a separate walled garden through a door next to the barn. 15 minutes drive to Cognac for the distilleries or St Jean D'Angely for the restaurants and farmers markets. Explore the Roman amphitheatre in nearby Saintes.
'Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home, the most relaxed holiday we have ever had' D.HART
'Even better than we could have hoped for, wonderful home and weather and no arguments - fab holiday!' Y.MACKESON
This was a return visit after 5 years for 3 generations of our family, but now with 6 grandchildren not 2. The Chateau was as good as ever for a family holiday. The improvements to the property made it more comfortable but did not detract from the essential charm of the chateau. 8 adults and 6 children fitted comfortably into the bedrooms and the living space allowed us moments of peace (for grandparents) when required. However it is the outside that really scores for us. Lots of room to run around and play safely, the pool area that is a joy to be in and very child safe and the outside dining area where we spent many hours of happy family meals together. The area is great for exploring with lovely towns and villages. Some of us cycled and others drove to explore. Sadly the nearby restaurant had closed down at Xmas but we still found places to eat when we didn't cook for ourselves. Everything was as we expected and the owner answered my endless questions with no hesitation before we arrived.
Delighted with the excellent chateau and the kids had a wonderful time exploring the many rooms and dens. We knew there was bikes available but the place was so big we didn't find them until the second day. Our group consisted of 3 families and the spacious bedrooms and the layout meant that each family had their own privacy and time to relax on their own. The pool was fab but the weather wasn't great so we didn't use it that much. All in all, very nice accommodation with plenty of room to relax. Ideal for a large family get together like a 50th birthday party.
Enjoyed a relaxing family holiday in an impressive and spacious classical building with excellent recreational facilities for children in a safe and peaceful environment. Although in a rural location there are very good butchers and bakers close by and it is only a relatively short drive to both Cognac and Saintes which are historic towns well worth a visit.
We were very fortunate to stay at this wonderful Chateau just a few weeks ago, and had the most fantastic relaxing holiday! There were a number of us of varying ages and this Chateau was just perfect! There is so much to do- relax by the pool, shoot some pool in the games room, go for a bike ride, run around with the children in the grounds ( and grounds they are!) , play on the swings, or simply relax and read in the salon, which is just delightful!
I was extremely impressed with the well equipped kitchen, we made some wonderful meals, and enjoyed them in the very sociable dining area, which managed to seat everyone! Not forgetting the evenings of playing Pictionary and Scrabble which bought out the competitive streaks in everyone (especially after a few glasses wine!)
The inter-marche, bakers and butchers are very conveniently located and stock everything ( no need to worry if you are bringing babies or toddlers). We also visited the nearby towns of Saint Jean- d'Angeley (which has a market every Wednesday - amazing cheeses), Cognac ( a beautiful park) and took a drive to the beach in Il de Re. In summary lots and lots to do and to suit everyone's needs! I would thoroughly recommend staying here!
Thank you Colin, for letting us enjoy your wonderful home!

Eleven of us ranging from 22months to a 79 year old with mild dementia had a wonderful week in this fantastic holiday Chateau!
The size of the house together with grounds, swimming pool and 2 games rooms meant no one ever felt on top of each other at any point. One member of the family even brought his keyboards for his and our entertainment. If it got too much we could always close the door! Everyone played rounders on the large lawn and most of us had great craic playing darts, table tennis and pool. Mixed weather meant we had 4 days in the big spacious pool area on the duller days we had plenty to entertain us. Saintes, Pons and St Jean d'Angely are only a stones throw away. Can't forget the bikes and also the BBQs which were full of over imbibing and laughter. A truly memorable week was had by all and talk of a return visit is on the cards! Finally Colin Cross the owner is really helpful and easy to deal with at all times - thanks Colin!! The McAlindon & Harrinton families from Belfast & Manchester.
There was 12 of us (8 adults and 4 children) that stayed at this stunning home. The location of the chateau is breathtaking surrounded by golden fields of sunflowers. If you are looking for a peaceful destination to unwind and enjoy great food and wine with accompanied friends or family, this is the place to stay. The property has been looked after fantastically by the owner (who was very helpful with any queries we had) with a large welcoming kitchen diner, a games room fully equipped with table tennis and snooker equipment and a computer with a vast library of old songs which bought back some memories! There's a supply of board games which bought the competitive streak out of us old time friends after a few glasses of fine vino! The kids lived in the swimming pool area which was safely gated with cushioned deck chairs to enjoy the weather! The pool temperature was fine for the kids to stay in most of the day and dry off in the large play area surrounding the grounds! We enjoyed the BBQ area too eating al fresco. A local baker would come regularly most mornings although there is a supermarket and indulgent bakery a short distance away from the property to enjoy the fresh bread and morning croissants. We took the kids for a walk around the area which they enjoyed taking some memorable photos with the backdrop of the sunflower fields! St jean de Angeles and saintes are towns near the location which we visited for a great day out to see the abbey and boutiques!
I would thoroughly recommend this home and location to visitors who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday at a slow pace! A beautiful home which I will definitely holiday in again!!
The Chateau faces south over open fields in the small hamlet of Le Pignaud near Aumagne where there is a post office, shop, bar and tennis courts. Supermarkets and farmers markets are approx 10 minutes drive away in the delightful market towns of Matha or St Jean D'Angely. You will also find a range of restaurant options in the towns from Gourmet to Pizza.
The beaches of Royan and La Palmyre are about 45mins drive SW or one hour NW takes you to La Rochelle.
Cognac and the distilleries are a 15 minute drive or a lovely day trip by bike - just don't drink too much at lunchtime!
The surrounding countryside is fairly flat which is great for cycling and falls within the Cognac production area so there are a lot of small producers of Cognac and Pineau - a local fortified wine, which is why it is better to explore by bike! The area is very unspoiled with pretty villages and friendly locals and with excellent restaurants and markets nearby.
Other Activities: Large water park in St Jean D'Angely with indoor pool etc.
