About this property

Comfortable Farmhouse Apartment with stunning views.

“Serene place to get away”
"If you want beauty and serenity in the heart of the olive groves of Andalusia, this is the place to stay"

Olive Grove Farmhouse - Casa Rural licence no: CR/GR/00254

Olive Grove Farmhouse is an old property set in beautiful inland Andalucia, in the heart of the olive growing region.

This fabulous apartment is on the first floor of an old Andalucian farmhouse. The farmhouse has been tastefully restored keeping old characterists but offering all mod cons needed for a comfortable relaxing holiday. The views from the apartment, and generally around the grounds, are sensational.

The farmhouse has excellent road access, it is very rural but not isolated with local villages and towns close by; Granada is only 45 minutes away.

The property consists of 3 dwellings - the owners accommodation and two rental accommodations: an apartment in the main farmhouse and a self-contained cottage attached to the farmhouse.

The Space

This is a totally self-contained first floor apartment with fabulous views across valleys and mountains as far as the Sierra Morena and Sierra Nevada mountain ranges. It is a very spacious and cosy apartment with a log burner for wintry days.

With an extra single bed in the Barn Bedroom and a day bed in the salon, the apartment can accommodate 4 people comfortably. Only an extra 10 euros for each extra person per night.

The double bedroom in the apartment is called The Barn Bedroom; it was converted from the old barn and has a fabulous high vaulted beamed ceiling.. This is a very comfortable large double bedroom with ensuite shower room.

All bed linen and towels are provided.

The salon which includes a kitchen diner is light, airy and spacious. It has fabulous views across hills and mountains as far as the Sierra Morena.

The kitchen/diner area of the salon is well kitted out with crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc; a gas hob and electric oven.

An efficient log burner in the salon makes the apartment very warm and cosy in the winter.

There are various terraces to sit out on, some offering privacy. All terraces have fabulous views. There are plenty of beautiful walks which will take you as far as you want to go!

In the summer (May to end September) we have a large splash pool.

Although a rural and a quiet area, we are not remote and road access is good with plenty of parking.

We offer a truly rustic Andalucian holiday with all mod cons.

Guest Access

Guest access to the apartment is through a shared entrance hall and up one short flight of stairs. There is also access to an additional small double/twin bedroom with shower-room at an extra charge.

There are local villages with bars and restaurants and small provisions shops. Our main town, Alcala La Real, is 15 kms away and has a host of shops including supermarkets. The town also boasts an old moorish castle as well as a museum and old churches.

The Alhambra at Granada is an hour away. Mezquito at Cordoba under 2 hours away. Coast an hour and a half. Sierra Nevada for skiing just over the hour.

Interaction with Guests

Mostly, Helen the proprietor and your host, is resident in her apartment and will 'meet and greet'. Guests are given complete privacy, however Helen is available for queries or problems. If Helen is away, there are neighbours and a handyman available to sort any queries or maintenance problems.

A handout leaflet is given to guests on arrival with details of the property, grounds and local facilities including information about the local towns and shops etc.

We sometimes have tapas parties and bbq's where everyone is invited including locals.

The Neighborhood

Trujillos is a small village, or even a hamlet. It nestles in between hills and mountains. The next village offers a great little bar. There are fantastic walks and drives up into the hills.
Three local villages offer provisions shops, bars, restaurants and banks

Getting Around

There is no public transport from the village of Trujillos. It is necessary to have a car at Olive Grove Farmhouse. If you enjoy cycling, we have a gents and a ladies bike to use, free of charge.

Other Things to Note

Rental price includes all utilities, use of washing machine, logs in the winter and 24/7 wifi.

It is more economical if you rent for a week at a time. It is even more economical to rent for a month or more.

Beautiful place to stay in stunning surroundings.
Can't fault this place - very quiet & rural (own transport essential) with amazing views from the living room window, but with good roads & easy access to Granada (Malaga airport is also less than two hours away on fantastic roads), also under 15k (on nearly empty roads) to Alcala la Real, which is a wonderful place with everything you could need (including a Lidl), but not too small to be lacking in facilities or too big to be daunting. The views of Fortaleza De La Mota (Alcala's Moorish fortress) on the way in are breathtaking, as is the view of the Sierra Nevada mountains on the way back. Helen (the owner) is very friendly, approachable and helpful - and her dog Pip is a real character! The whole area is laid back & very friendly - the people (although not many english speakers about - learn some Spanish & be really appreciated!) are wonderfully helpful & kind; prices are low and there is none of the cynical rip-off attitude which one can encounter on the coast. Try the Annapurna Gastrobar in Frailes, just up the road (Friendly english-speaking owners) for fantastic food at low prices (21 euros for 2x3-course meals with drinks!!). Back at the accommodation, Helen really goes out of her way to ensure the comfort of her guests (Wood burner, gas heater, electric blankets) and is very knowledgeable regarding the local area. If you need to find out anything, she can tell you or will quickly find out for you. Although we didn't have the best of weather during our visit (rain & snow in late March), I really did not want to leave. Love it!! I am torn between publicising the area or keeping it a secret so that it doesn't get spoiled like other areas we have loved but have become over popular like the Axarquia, but Helen does deserve to be at max capacity 100% of the time because the accommodation & ambience is so good! Please note that there is no microwave oven or TV, although there is wifi internet at sufficient speed to allow streaming of films - what more would you need!! Can't wait to visit the area again once summer has kicked in.....

a great place to stay
We had a wonderful time in this apartment. We had a room with a beautiful view. It was quiet and well equiped. It is a good location to make a trip to places like: Granada, Acala la Real, Ubeda and Baeza. We also made a trip to the Sierra Nevada for walking. Helen Watson is a friendly hostess who you can ask anything. .

A quiet place surrounded by nature
. The property is as indicated in the description. . The property was clean and in good condition. . The owner is a very nice person and helps you whenever you need. . I recommend the property for all people who want tranquility and contact with the nature. . I recommend visiting Alcalá la Real and Montefrio. Alcalá la Real has a wonderful medieval castle and several old churches. Montefrio has a church on a mountain where Japanese people come to marry. . Overall this is a nice property that I will return in the future.

About the host

After my two sons left home, I needed an interest and a project. I bought a campervan and travelled round Spain in 2002 with my black labrador. I was blown away by the beauty of inland Spain. I loved the little Andalucian villages, the boldness of the 'countryside' and of course the climate makes a difference! I vowed to come back and live in Spain one day - I came back 5 years later.

Why they chose this property

I knew as soon as I saw the house that I wanted to buy it. I was not in the least bit daunted by the amount of work that would be involved in reforming it. There are also two cottages which needed completely reforming.
The farmhouse had a certain charm about it even though it was so run down and needed a complete reform including electrics, plumbing, converting the old barn and animal rooms into accommodation.
I thought I would finish the work in a few years.
We are now in year 11 and there is always work to do!
But it is incredibly rewarding especially because all the guests who stay here love it.

What makes this property unique

Fabulous views.
Peaceful.
Great walks.
Friendly and helpful Spanish neighbours.
Local villages and towns where you can get everything you need.
Rural but not remote.
Good road access and plenty of parking.
Plenty of different areas outside for sitting out and eating outdoors.
Nights stars are as clear as clear can be.
Although very cold at night in the winters, days are usually glorious sunshine.
Log burners sort out the cold nights.
The old farmhouse thick walls keep the house cool in the summer.
The benefits at Olive Grove Farmhouse are different for everyone but everyone finds something they love.
