Welcome to the award winning Wisteria Cottage in historic Watlington Oxfordshire, a beautifully renovated 2 bedroom character cottage with sunny garden which has been described by previous guests as a real "home from home". We are surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Chilterns AONB seen in the tv series "Midsomer Murders" and there’s also an open air swimming pool to enjoy in nearby Wallingford. Popular with guests looking for a romantic couples base close to Spas, golf courses, historic houses, world class gastronomic experiences and Bicester Designer Village, it also appeals to walkers wanting to explore the many footpaths including The Ridgeway and Thames Path.

Wisteria Cottage Watlington sleeps up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 young children. Relax with a book in the sunny garden, take advantage off road parking for 2 cars, BT YouView (with 4 BT Sports channels), WiFi, or light the wood burning stove for a romantic evening in. Keep warm with full gas central heating in all rooms and lie in watching a bedroom tv too. A complimentary welcome pack is provided sourced with local products wherever possible. Explore the lovely Chilterns by foot or bike along the Ridgeway National Trail, visit historic houses and gardens, take day trips to London, Oxford and Windsor where Legoland is a great day out for children. Harry Potter World is also less than an hour away but buy tickets in advance. Visit Oxford, Henley and Marlow or walk /cycle along the Thames Path at Henley or Wallingford 8 miles or cycle The Swans Way, the Watlington 50, the Chilterns Cycle Route and the Watlington Loop. Secure bike storage is available.

The cottage has recently experienced a modernisation project and now provides a very high standard of comfort yet maintains character features like wooden ceiling beams downstairs ( mind your head!) and a new wood burning stove with a basket of logs provided for you to use. The luxurious downstairs bathroom and kitchen offer everything you may hope to find. The porcelain tiled bathroom has a 1500mm bath with wall mounted shower at one end, small basin, WC, radiator, heated towel rail, washer/dryer, shaving/vanity mirror, shaver point and high quality fixtures and fittings. Complimentary bath/shower products are provided for your convenience. The kitchen has a Bosch electric oven, ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge with a small icebox. The gas powered central heating boiler is hidden in a cupboard to match the units. Everything you may require to cook is provided although there are 4 great pubs which provide meals in the town and also a fish and chip shop, an Indian restaurant which also does takeaway food and a kitchen equipment shop with a freezer full of delicious frozen ready meals. The local shops are mainly independent and family run like a butcher, a beautiful lighting shop, a deli/ cafe, and an antiques shop. From

two off road parking spaces walk through a gate into the fully enclosed sunny front garden with lawns, flower beds and a patio area which includes a table and seating for 6 people and a BBQ. The front door leads into the cosy sitting room which has restricted head height due to the beam so anyone tall needs to be careful. Here there is a comfortable sofa, 2 tub chairs, a foldaway dining table and chairs, a coffee table and a 32" Smart TV with BT Youview channels ( including 4 BT Sports channels) Free BT Wifi is available. The little log burner provides both extra heat and a focal point and a basket of logs is provided. If you need more, they are available to buy in the village. Going through an open door way, you get to the kitchen and from here a shorter and narrower than average door takes you into a lobby leading to both the bathroom and back door. Outside is a small courtyard area with a cycle store.The staircase also leads off the kitchen to the 2 bedrooms, both with a garden view. The larger has a double bed with 1.40m Hypnos mattress and hand crafted fitted wardrobes with a dressing table/desk area next to a 22" Smart tv with Free view channels so you can rest in bed.The other smaller bedroom has a single bed with another mattress below and is best suited to 1 person but a travel cot would fit in also or if you have 2 children there is just room for 2 beds but there is very little floor space. A cot, chair booster seat, changing mat and other baby kit can be provided on request. High quality bed linen, towels, pillows and duvets are provided as standard but blankets and sheets are available by prior request.

About Jane Giorgi

I have always been interested in property and meeting people so what better than go into property renovation as holiday lets?

My first venture was successful in Windsor, then I arranged for the complete modernisation of a property in Halifax Yorkshire (OD 1906473) which I started renting just before Christmas 2015. We sold the Windsor apartment to buy a cosy character cottage in Watlington in the Chilterns which is on the Midsomer Trail.

It is a lovely cottage, full of character in a really great location. Having one parking space in the town is a bonus, but two is really unusual and we achieved this through removal of a huge amount of vegetation which had been allowed to grow untamed for the past 10 years. The cottage now has a modern kitchen with a country feel and a luxurious hotel like bathroom.

What makes this cottage unique

A warm, cosy cottage with wall and ceiling beams in the sitting room and kitchen and a log burning stove too. The sheltered, sunny South facing garden is a delight to relax in and watch the majestic Red Kites circling above.

Gas central heating and the log burner means you are never cold and every conceivable extra has been incorporated into the design to ensure your comfort.

Parking for 2 cars and walks straight from the door into beautiful countryside including The Ridgeway National Trail and The South Oxfordshire Way mean it is a walkers paradise. The local village pubs are within 10 minutes walk and they welcome dogs too.

We provide dog bowls, holiday name tags to borrow, dog towels and seat covers but request that you bring your pets bed. We request that your dog ( or 2 small ones) stay out of the bedrooms as our non doggy guests are reassured to know this.

  • This newly appointed downstairs bathroom has neutral porcelain tiles to both walls and floor and glossy white units and doors to give a very contemporary look. The wc is tucked away round a corner close to the small hand basin with pull out drawers containing shower caps, shampoo and conditioner. The bath is slightly shorter than normal at 1500mm in order to accommodate the cupboard housing the washer/dryer. A glass screen provides protection for the high velocity shower. Special details include a vanity mirror, a swivel vmagnifying mirror, a shaver point, an electric radiator programmed to come on twice a day to dry towels and a radiator connected to the central heating system. There is also a small window. elecctric heated towel rail for drying towels in summer central heating radiator washer/dryer inside cupboard

  • Tastefully decorated in a contemporary country style with high thread count plain bed linen, these rooms are a pleasure to relax in. Both have hand made built in cupboards with hanging rail and drawers, plain carpets and extras like a suitcase rack, electric fan, bedside lights, clocks and hairdryers.Black out linings to the curtains in the main bedroom and both a blind and curtains in the single bedroom, ensure a dark nights' sleep. There is a wall mounted 22" tv in the larger room for relaxing in bed with a dressing area below it. We offer a selection of Restricted head height in both rooms and doorways. Max ceiling height 1.97m The smaller bedroom is suitable for an adult with possibly space for a cot or maybe 2 small children but the lower mattress of the trundle bed covers nearly all the floor space. It is therefore best suited for a maximum of 3 people and a baby. The cottage is small but perfectly formed.

Please note that the cottage is small and cosy but has everything you may require. It is in a lovely location, 5 minutes walk to the shops, pubs and interesting architecture of a small historic town. There are a number of walks or cycle rides possible straight from the cottage and local maps and information are provided. A cycle store for 2 normal sized bikes has been provided with a padlock.This is a truly unique cottage in a fantastic location being so close to the Chilterns but also with history and culture so close too.

Perfect little home for three weeks!

Wisteria cottage was very warm and cosy and was a perfect home for me for three weeks in January - I was working close by. I particularly loved having the little log burner in the evenings! Excellent internet connection.

Charming village life

We Stayed at Wysteria Cottage in Watlington for two weeks, and the longer we stayed, the more we enjoyed our experience. Watlington is a well located village ten minutes off the M40 so it is super convenient for day trips. A few good pubs and shops in walking distance and the Red Kites are amazing to watch. Great cottage for two adults, but you have to learn to "mind your head" in some doorways, but once you do, the house is well equipped with everything you need. The owner, Jane, is THE best at advance communications and making sure everything is set for a good experience.

Small for the price but clean & tidy.

We arrived at the cottage after staying at a 4 bedroom house with large garden at app.£100 less and no deposit, then moved after Wisteria to another house & garden for £200 less and no deposit.

We also have another Owners Direct cottage booked for Christmas & New Year which is house with garden at only £100 per week more and only £100 deposit, therefore thought Wisteria bit pricey.

Having looked at site again did note size but at time of booking this was one of 6 cottages plus 6 nights away so not possible to spot all details in relation to price.

Cozy cottage

My wife and I had a great 5 night stay at Wisteria cottage in Watlington.

Cottage was small but had all the amenities that one could hope for.

Great location to explore Oxfordshire.

One note, mind-the-gap through doors as they are low, I found myself bumping my head several times.

Watlington, between Henley and Oxford, reputedly the smallest town in England, is a very old settlement dating back over 1500 years to Anglo Saxon times although the Norman church is the oldest building in existence. The Medieval street pattern, old cottages and traditional buildings like the old Town Hall make it a very popular location for tourists on the Midsomer Trail as it has featured in several episodes of this long running tv series. The Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, are just to the East of the town and offer many outdoor opportunities such as cycling, walking, birdwatching etc. The Watlington area is where the endangered Red Kites were first released in the 1980's and now are a characteristic of the area, gliding over the fields and rooftops with their magnificent colours and 6 foot wingspan. The long distance foot and cyclepaths of the Ridgeway and South Oxfordshire Way pass within a mile or so of the cottage.

Watlington is situated in a rural area but has excellent connections to several larger towns for shopping, culture and entertainment. Oxford, Reading, High Wycombe and Aylesbury are all about 15 miles away with bus services to Oxford. London is about 40 miles and the fast coach service, the Oxford Tube, stops at Lewknor junction 6 of the M40, 3 miles away, offering connections to London and Oxford every 12 minutes and London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airports less often. The smaller Thames side towns of Wallingford and Henley are both less than 10 miles away and there are many historical buildings like stately homes, abbeys and beautiful gardens to explore within 20 miles such as Stonor Park, Blenheim Palace, Greys Court, Clivedon, Hughendon Manor, Waddesden Manor and more. The inspirational architecture of the Oxford Colleges is known of worldwide and completely different are the retail delights of Bicester Designer Village for those who crave designer labels at knock down prices.

The owner reserves the right to cancel the reservation if unexpected circumstances make this unavoidable but payment of any monies paid so far will be reimbursed.
Full Payment must be made for bookings within 60 days of arrival date. Failure to do so will make the booking null and void. Cancellation of a booking within 60 days will mean loss of any monies paid. Cancellation before the 60 days when full payment is due will incur loss of booking deposit unless the property is relet in which case an administration charge of £50 will be deducted.
The security deposit will be held against any loss or damage to the property including bed linen and towels. Please note that this includes makeup or blood which does not come out in a normal wash.
The owner will do her best to ensure everything is in working order but this relies on previous guests informing her of any problem. Unfortunately this does not always occur, so regretfully problems may arise which are outside the owners control and knowledge. Please note Wifi or mobile signal cannot be guaranteed.
It is not permissible to smoke or partake of illegal substances within the property.
The drains are old and sensitive. Any blockages will be paid for by the guest and if discovered after departure, the cost of clearance will be taken from the security deposit.
It is not possible to allow additional people to sleep at the property. The maximum occupancy is 3 adults or after discussion with the owner, it may be possible for there to be 2 adults and 2 young children. However please note that children are to be supervised at all times and are under their parents risk. The owner is not responsible for any accidents which may occur to any guest whilst staying at the property.
Check in time is usually 15.30 and check out time 10.30.

  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
