About Peter Dyer

We live in Silverstone, England and live in a barn conversion where Elaine runs a thriving Bed & Breakfast business and Pete works in financial services. Pete is originally from Solihull and Elaine from Darlington, however both have lived in the Silverstone area since the late 1970s and are considered more or less as "locals"

Peter Dyer purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Peter Dyer chose Monestier

We chose to holiday in Couture when our kids were young, and a friend of a friend had a cottage here we could hire (that friend of a friend is now our friend, and now lives in the village full time). We made friends with another couple who used to own Yellow Shutters (who also still live in the village), which Elaine had always liked, and when we found it was on the market, well, it had to be done !

What makes this cottage unique

It's just a lovely little cottage - the French equivalent of a thatched cottage with roses round the door that everybody aspires to in the UK

deuxième sejour dans la maison aux volets jaunes

  • 4 of 5

revenue avec des amis nous avons apprécié notre séjour très ensoleillé en dordogne

dommage que le ménage des sols était à faire en arrivant. Nous laissons la maison aux volets jaunes donc plus propre en partant, pour les prochains résidents.

Gut ausgestattetes Ferienhaus

  • 4 of 5

Vineyards and sunflowers galore! Every village and town is a delight to stop and look around. Markets, markets, markets - the very best you'll find in Europe. Try Issegeac market on Sunday morning, followed by a relaxed 5 course Sunday lunch for less than 20 Euros, wine included - yes we can tell you where ! The restaurant of Famille Moutier is a short walk from the cottage and serves the most memorable of meals - a 7 course Duck oriented "Menu Gastronomique", including all drinks for (at early 2016) 35 Euros a head although they do inch their prices up by a Euro here and there occasionally. Anyway it is superb value for money ! The Dordogne river is never more than a short drive away, and canoe trips are all over the place from Easter to late September. You're in the centre of Bastides country. These were the medieval equivalent of council housing estates, built in their hundreds to a standard pattern, but 6 - 700 years later they each have their own picturesque charm, some more than others. The central square in each bastide is very similar, but entirely different at the same time. Come and look and find out for yourselves ! Within a 15 minute drive you have Ste Foy la Grande and Eymet - both Bastide towns with a very, very different feel to them
