The apartment is on the top floor of the very beautiful County House apartment block (which before converted was the County Hospital), there is a lift. The rooms are, spacious and light, and are furnished and equipped to a very high standard. There are two double bedrooms with double beds, one is en suit also there is an additional small/ occasional 3rd bedroom with double bed, ( an alternative to the mezzanine bedroom if preferred), a lounge, a kitchen diner and a large hallway leading to the two mezzanines upstairs (one has the lounge and the other the second bedroom) both mezzanines are separate. The family bathroom is on the mezzanine level.

The occasional bedroom can be used along side the other two bedrooms if agreed beforehand with myself. There is a small additional charge to use all 3 rooms. Please ask me for more details if you would like to use it.

This is a very popular apartment, children love the quirky lay out. It is also south facing, bright, sunny and warm.

Winner 2014 Tripadvisor 'Certificate of Excellence' This impressive period property is on the very doorstep of all that is interesting and exciting about York, you could not be better placed for a perfect city break. The area of Monkgate is a very upmarket residential area very close to York Minster and the city walls. I have 2 apartments in this beautiful building, numbers 45 and 49 both are very spacious and light, and are furnished and equipped to a very high standard. This beautiful converted Victorian hospital has great character, and is set back from the road and therefore there is no road or street noise, very peaceful. The car park is at the front of the building and is gated and free of charge. From apartment 45 you will have a view of York Minster, Apartment 49 is at the other side of the building and looks across the city towards the River Foss. I am sure you will not be disappointed with either of these apartments and this central location.

About Sandra Depledge

I have lived in York for 40 years, I love this City! My background is in design, I used to have my own lingerie business where I designed and manufactured Silk Lingerie an d Nightwear under the 'De Pledge' brand selling to stores such as Harrods, London. We manufactured here in York for 17 years.

I am now a property developer and enjoy running these 2 holiday apartments and other residential properties. I live close to the Racecourse where this picture was taken.

Why Sandra Depledge chose York

I have 2 apartments in the beautiful listed building, both are on the 2nd floor, the top floor, in this building. It used to be the old County Hospital before it was totally renovated. It is a quality building, absolutely beautiful when flood lit at night.

The area is very upmarket and away from the crowded streets. The off road position means it is a very peaceful setting.

What makes this apartment unique

The location just doesn't get any better so close to the Minster and all amenities. York has so much to offer, you can never really get bored here. The apartments are really quirky with the mezzanine levels and are very spacious. We are within easy walking distance to everything, if you go out and forget something it is so easy to nip back, it will take you just minutes.

  • There are tow main bedrooms in this apartment and one small occasional bedroom. The Master bedroom is on the first level and has a double bed and an en suit bathroom. It has a large window which extends up onto the mezzanine level and the second bedroom. The second bedroom on mezzanine has also a double bed and is on the same level as the family bathroom and the living room. All the rooms on the mezzanine are separate from each other and are accessed from the upstairs landing. The occasional bedroom is situated off the entrance hall in between the Master bedroom and the dining /kitchen. This room has a double bed and is totally private. This is used as an alternative to the 2nd mezzanine bedroom if more privacy is needed. It is also available as a 'special request' for an additional £10 per night should you wish to use all 3 bedrooms.

Lovely space in a well situated and beautiful old buiding

A seamless booking with clear instructions for arrival and security. Having a dedicated parking space is useful too.

The flat itself is stunning. It's exceptionally well cleaned and stocked, with many groceries already in the cupboards.

The furnishings are excellent and the space was lovely and relaxing.

Overall, very quiet, with occasional lift noises. Most of the time you'd think you were alone in the block.

There's a great info pack with details of the local services and specific rules relating to the accommodation too.

Security refund promptly returned.

Great location for exploring the beautiful City of York!...

We had a fantastic 4 day stay at this lovely apartment, it is in the perfect location literally a minute from the City Walls. Everything you require is on your doorstep, there is a Sainsbury's Supermarket to the rear of the apartment block which came in handy, and there are a number of pubs/restaurants within a few mins walk.

The apartment itself has plenty of space and all the amenities we required during our stay! Communication with the owner was prompt and there was clear instructions for entry/exit etc, and a designated parking space is an added bonus!

We will recommend this apartment to others and will return in the future!

Lovely apartment just outside the city walls

We spent a very happy week in this apartment and found it suited our needs very well. It was just a few minutes walk to the city walls and York Minster. All the amenities in the apartment worked well and we loved the old building.

We found that using the two "main" bedrooms (master and mezzanine) did not work well for us - not because of privacy so much as differences in desired temperature - but with the alternate bedroom available, it was not any problem. I probably would not recommend this apartment for a group needing to use all 3 bedrooms, just because there is no way to separate the mezzanine from the main bedroom, so light, noise, and temperature can all be an issue.

Owner's Response: Thank you Bonnie, for your review, I agree that 4 people using 2 bedrooms is perfect as there is always an alternative bedroom, many previous guests will visit again and use all 3 bedrooms knowing the layout and that is absolutely fine. I like my guests to have a good nights sleep :)

Spacious clean ideally located fully equipped

Above our expectations and we've stayed alot in York over the past 12 years. This best accommodation we've had the pleasure to stay in. Wish we had found here a lot sooner. Can't wait till our next trip....very soon we hope.
