Country house situated on the edge of the village of Laignes in the heart of Burgundy near many sites of interest, the famous Burgundy and Champagne vineyards, medieval villages and chateaux and children’s activities. Within 2 minutes walking distance of local village shops, restaurant, boulangerie, and bar.

The house has been renovated throughout and offers good sized family accommodation sleeping up to 7 people. Positioned in a cul-de-sac location, there is a private rear garden with large dining / sun terrace with outdoor dining furniture ideal for relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The garden is fully enclosed and suitable for small children. Off street parking for 2 cars with additional parking to the front of the house.

The sitting room with feature stone walls and Dalle de Bourgogne stone floor has a seating area and flat screen TV. Separate family dining room leading through to a kitchen fully equipped with all essential cooking equipment and utensils, freestanding kitchen units, gas cooker, large fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Separate laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

Ground floor modern shower room with shower cubicle, toilet and sink. Additional toilet and sink located in the laundry room.

The first floor accommodation has 3 good sized bedrooms, each with a double bed plus a further single bed in the second bedroom. Plenty of storage space with wardrobes and chests of drawers in each room. Two travels cots and high chair are also available on request.

About Stewart Greer

Myself and my wife Christina live and work in London. I work in IT and Christina is a civil servant. We have an 8 year old son. We first visited the Cote D’Or area in 2002. We were on our way home from the Alps when we stopped off in Chatillon sur Seine to visit the local museum. We stayed there for a couple of days because we found the area so charming and unspoilt.

Why Stewart Greer chose Laignes

We started looking for a holiday home shortly after that trip, and kept coming back to the Cote d’Or. We fell in love with this house and bought it 10 years ago. We love the fact that when you are in the garden, you feel like you are in your own little piece of France and you can just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. The house was built just a few years after the battle of Waterloo. It has a lovely garden enclosed by the old fortified village walls and a real sense of history about it.

What makes this house unique

There are bakeries, a supermarket, a restaurant and a bar in Laignes all within 5 minutes walk of the house. There are a wider range of restaurants, shopping and bars in Chatillon sur Seine which is just 15 minutes away. For the best and freshest food it’s worth driving to Chablis for the Sunday market. There is a lot to do in the area. We visit the great vineyards and cheese-makers and the medieval villages like Noyers, that seem to have come straight from a fairytale. We enjoy picnics at the wonderful lakes in the Foret de l’Orient with child friendly beaches, though we often go swimming in the local lake at Marcenay just 15 minutes from the house.

We love our house and the Cote d’ Or and hope you love it too.

Great location and lovely house

We had a lovely time at Stewart’s house – it was peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed sitting in the garden with a glass of wine after a busy day of visiting the local tourist areas. There are some really good Cremant producers within easy reach of the house and we enjoyed sampling the local fizz. The house was very comfortable with everything that we needed. We would highly recommend a stay here.

A spacious and well equipped restored house in a quiet village.

Pleasant and practical restored house in a quiet village with a small enclosed garden. Nicely equipped kitchen and utility room, and comfortably beds. We enjoyed our stay. The owners and their family seem to use the property for their own visits and this is reflected in the level of facilities provided.

Lovely rustic farmhouse!

If you want a holiday in the unspoiled countryside, this is your spot. Easy access to Chablis, Tonnerre, Tanlay and Noyers, walk to the Boulangerie in town and explore the Côte d'Or and Tonnerrois. Three bedrooms meant space for the teenagers and the walled in backyard meant complete privacy. We had a lovely relaxing vacation.

Exceptional house in unspoilt France

We visited Burgundy last summer and stayed here for a week in June. The house is well set up for eight people with three big bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, and a self contained garden where the kids could play safely. There is a big lake nearby which was great for swimming and picnics.

There are shops within five minutes walk from the house. For a bigger shop the supermarkets in nearby Chatillon were only 15 minutes drive away. There is also a wide selection of restaurants in Chatillon for an evening out.

While there are some lovely places to visit nearby, part of the fun was exploring the local countryside in a very unspoiled part of France. We loved the open air Sunday market in Chablis. It's a very pretty town and the selection of local produce was brilliant.

It was a lovely house to stay in, very comfortable and restful and remarkably good value. Will certainly stay there again

Gut ausgestattetes, aber hellhöriges Haus

Schönes Haus, gute Ausstattung (wenn auch ohne Wi-Fi). Der E-Mail-Kontakt zum sehr freundlichen Vermieter hat gut funktioniert. Die Wände im Obergeschoss (da sind die Schlafzimmer) sind dünn - wenn jemand durch die obere Etage über die knarrenden Holzdielen geht, sind schnell alle wach. Neben dem Haus liegen Schule und ein Bauernhof,

es ist daher nicht immer ganz ruhig (und durch die Kühe kann es auch schon mal ziemlich streng riechen). Dafür sind es aber nur ein paar Minuten bis zum Bäcker oder Supermarkt. Das Dorf ist (wie alle Dörfer in der Gegend) sehr ursprünglich. In der weiteren Umgebung gibt es viele Sehenswürdigkeiten, die Straßen sind wenig befahren.

With the famous wine regions of Chablis, Auxerrois and Champagne literally on your doorstep, sample the abundance of wines available including the local Crémant de Bourgogne. Experience the rolling countryside and beautiful vineyards on the route de Crémant and Champagne. Take in the Sunday market at Chablis where you will find local French delicacies. Don’t forget the villages of Epoisses and Chaource where you will taste some of the delicious award winning local cheeses.

The Burgundy and Champagne regions boast a wealth of historic and architectural attractions. There are many nearby chateaux and historical sites including the Chateau at Ancy le France, L’Abbaye de Fontenay and the Basilica at Vezelay. Venture to the new MuseoParc Alesia at Alise St Reine, visit the medieval town of Semur en Auxois or take a stroll round the medieval village of Flavigny sur Ozerain famous for its aniseed sweets and also the filming of Chocolat. The pretty village of Essoyes, the home of Renoir the world famous painter is also a must during your stay.

For the children, you are within easy reach of Nigloland or the Parc de l’Auxois – both great for a days entertainment. You are only 5 minutes drive from the lake complex at Lac de Marcenay and the swimming complex at Montbard is a 20 minute drive. Visit the museum at Chatillon sur Seine where the family will marvel at the famous Vase de Vix.

For keen birdwatchers, there is an observatory at Lac de Marcenay where you can discover Osprey living at the lake.

The village of Laignes has a supermarket, restaurant, bakers, pharmacy, a bank and local bar all within 2 minutes walking distance of the house. For a wider range of commerce, the nearest large town is Chatillon sur Seine (15 minutes) where you will find cafes, boutique shops, restaurants, large supermarkets, theatre and swimming pool.
