One of the top spots on Lake Rescue, this rustic (late -1800's) home features 4BR's and 2.5 Baths. Open living room/all season porch, and big deck with expansive views of the lake and mountain. Fully equipped kitchen with eat-in dining area. Two bedrooms downstairs, each with a queen bed. The 'master' bed looks directly out at the lake - the perfect way to wake up. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, each with twin beds (a total of 5). The deck has a grill, and picnic table paired with the best view you'll find. Less than 5mins to Okemo mtn and golf course, and under 20 to Killington - the house is situated perfectly for all seasons. In the summer months, it's a short walk to the Green Mountain Sugar house for a maple creamee (a must try!), and even shorter stroll down the lawn to a vast waterfront/beach area. In the winter - the wood stove keeps the house nice and toasty, and with views of the mountain you can make sure the snowcats are grooming all night!
Ideal renter - someone looking for a no frills, authentic lakeside VT rental with mountain access 5mins away. If you're looking for the Four Seasons, this probably isn't for you :)
A 9% rooms tax has been added to the rental fee per the State of Vermont.
- The owner's have a home next door to this house, and the dock area is shared. The groomed waterfront area is well over 100ft, and there is plenty of room should both parties be up at the same time.
- The fire pit/motor boat down at the lake is not allowed to be used by renters. Breaking this rule will result in a forfeited deposit.
I would like to start by stating that I am a frequent user of HomeAway and have always had good fortune with all previous rental properties. With that being said, the lakefront view of this “cozy” cottage was the only mentionable highlight of our recent stay (12/30/16- 1/3/17) at this property. We read all reviews prior to booking and understood we were not checking into “Four Seasons” accommodations however we certainly were not expecting a “Zero Season”. Nonetheless my family (six adults & a 5mo old) tried to make the best of our stay. While we were prepared for a level of ‘no frills’ and ‘musty scent ‘, we certainly were not prepared for brown running water throughout the house (which took a day or so to clear – thankfully we brought bottled water for cooking/drinking). Nor were we prepared for the drafty bedroom windows, which we hung blankets to minimize the cold air drafts (so much for the picturesque view from master bedroom). We did not access the upstairs bedrooms for this same reason. We were most disturbed by the condition of the showers in bathrooms where grimly plastic shower curtains were hung to hide the unfinished, exposed walls which is definitely below inhabitable standards (now we know why there were no pictures of bathrooms on rental site). The last straw was the mouse droppings under the kitchen sink (and who know where else). Needless to say, we ended our stay at this property earlier than expected.
While it is understandable that this or any other lakefront property can be plagued by brown water and field mice, a warning from property owner would have been the right thing to do. Perhaps the right thing to do is renovate this property before advertising it on HomeAway or other rental sites.
This house was nice and cozy, yet spacious. We had a group of 5 but there was plenty of room for more. It is a bit of an old house but I think that added to its charm. The lake view, even in the winter time was nice to wake up to in the morning. There is a fire place/stove that was great to use after a day on the mountain. The house was only a few minute drive from Okemo. Spencer was also very quick to respond if we had any questions. I would consider staying here again if I come up to Vt with a large enough group.
At first glance, we were not too impressed with the property. The house is very old and it had a very musty odor that permeated the living room furniture and downstairs small bathroom. The rest of the house was quite cozy. Beds were comfortable. I am a clean addict and brought my own products and after coming in and smelling the musty odor I went to work on cleaning bathrooms and kitchen. Honestly, it was really clean. Window were old and did not stay open. I had to prop them open and hold them open with cups and glasses. It however improved the musty odor.
Now for the good stuff,! Beautiful landscaped yard with an incredible view of the lake. My family had a ball. A nice deck and a nice dock. The owner left a paddle board and canoe for our use. We brought our own kayaks and paddle boards as well. So, there were plenty for all,of my family. We brought floats and the water was warm and so clean you can see straight to the bottom. The children went fishing right off the dock and caught several fish each. The TV did no get many stations so we just left it off and played cards and games each night after dinner. A real old fashion vacation with the family. My 10 year old grandson declared " this old place is really cozy after all"!
We enjoyed nearby Bromley Mt and spent the day there doing Ropes course and sliding down the mountain . A great vacation was had by all.
The cottage was just as described. It was warm, comfortable and cozy. Spencer provided great customer service and was quick to rerun our deposit. If I were to provide helpful feedback I would suggest something to make the house easier to locate at night. We couldn't find a house number and our GPS took us to the neighbor's house.
The location was great, right on the lake and near Ludlow. The owners got back to me right away when I had any questions. The house itself was a little odd, fully carpeted including the bathrooms and had a musty smell but it worked out well for a few days away and we didn't spend much time in the house anyway.
The house was exactly as described. Location was great , very near town of Ludlow with a beautiful expansive lawn leading to dock and lake. My sons loved the paddleboard and kayaks and even took them out when it poured rain one of the days. It had one of the best equipped kitchens I've ever had in a rental house. i would give 5 stars except picture window in queen downstairs bedroom was quite dirty which took from the lake view and there was a moderately bad smell from one of the downstairs bathrooms (which may be from a faulty toilet ring). If these were fixed, it would be a 5 star house ,given it's very reasonable rental rate.
