We loved our weekend at Winding Falls! The cabin was just lovely and well-appointed. We took advantage of the peaceful porch and watched the hummingbirds feed and listened to the roaring falls not far away. Husband and son tried their hand at fishing -- no fish but they certainly enjoyed the pursuit. We enjoyed our hike to Max Patch -- even when it was socked in by clouds. What a beautiful place.

Thanks for sharing your lovely cabin -- we hope to return again soon and hopefully for a longer stay.

Good, but not for our family

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is nice, no complaints about the comfort. The bedroom is in a loft upstairs with a very steep and slippery staircase. One of our dogs ended up sliding halfway down the stairs before I caught her. So to avoid any further accidents, we either blocked off the top or bottom of the stairs depending on whether we were up or down. Bring your own baby/dog gates! The upstairs has no AC just a window unit. Opening windows downstairs was perfect, no AC was needed. The porch is nice. The railings on the porch are great b/c tiny dogs can't slip through!

There are no views from the cabin...only trees. The creek and waterfalls are quite a hike away. We ended up driving down the end of the driveway, parking the car and walking the rest of the way because 1 of out dogs is old and we honestly weren't sure she could make it. You do walk right through the owner's front yard to get to the waterfalls/creek. Also their driveway runs right along (above) the waterfall path. If you don't want to see people, then you are out of luck.

Owner's Response: OK # 1: The photos and the description clearly show the stairs and the loft; and state that the master suite is in the loft. #2: The loft has A/C, never had one complaint #3: The cabin is a vacation rental for people. We allow guests to bring their dogs if they choose to. #4: The cabin is in the National Pisgah Forest and is surrounded by mountains, and situated above the waterfalls. #5: There are trails throughout the 42 acres, including leading down to the falls, a 10 minute stroll. #6: There is a trail that leads directly down to the falls, never entering our space or seeing our home. Where we live, it's obvious we value our privacy as much as our guests do. Sharing 42 acres, cabin and home being invisible to each other works well. #7: Our private (separate from he cabin) dirt drive is far above the waterfalls trails. The trail is invisible to the drive and visa versa. #9: We saw you once, asked if you were having a good time, you said yes. #8: If we happen to see our guests, we greet them, welcome them, and answer any questions. Normal people expect that and appreciate it.

A little slice of heaven (for people and puppies alike)!

My husband and I were in need of a spring "break" from the daily grind and Winding Falls was just what we needed - a perfect getaway if you are looking for quiet time surrounded by nature. The hosts are gracious and there if you need them, but otherwise transparent. The cabin is generously appointed and fastidiously maintained - really has all of the creature comforts one could require! We stayed April 21- 29th. and were prepared for unpredictable weather (we had 4 days of rain) but were able to make the most of it either between showers or by venturing out. Funny thing was it could be raining at the cabin, but the 20 minute drive to Hot Springs brought clear skies! CRAZY BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS!

We travel with our dog, Taggart who happens to be a giant breed; not only was it great that Leigh and Wolf allowed him to stay, but we the entire area to be extremely dog friendly. He hiked with us every day either on the property (and seriously if you want to have a down relaxing day - there is no need to go anywhere else - the trails are delightful!

Hiking abounds in the region but for short hikes if you are not a serious hiker (or like me trying to get back into shape) Lover's Leap in Hot Springs and Max Patch were two of our favorites. We enjoyed Max Patch so much we went back for sunset the following day - sublime!

We made most of our meals at the cabin, but enjoyed some snacks and beers one afternoon at the Creekside in Hot Springs. We also really enjoyed Taco Tuesday at the Mosaic after our Lover's Leap hike (and they had Prosecco on tap - yum!) Town was SO dog friendly - the boy was even allowed in some stores.

A drive into Asheville is a must - great to plan mid-week, allowing you to pick up any items you might need re-stocking on as the Hot Springs area is limited in groceries. Provisions aside, such a fabulous and dog-friendly city with great arts, craft, and culture, not to mention food! We had done Biltmore before but made it to Grovewood Village this visit which was an enchanting little spot on the site of the former textile mills of Biltmore Industries. Cool car museum, sculpture garden, museum, and fabulous gallery of fine artisan crafts.

So much fun and so many things to do but we were always happy rain or shine, to come in off of a day of exploring and open a bottle of wine and just relax on the beautiful front porch and watch the humming birds flit around! Leigh and Wolf - thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven!

Owner's Response: Wow! What a wonderful description of your week! You hit all the "sweet spots" our cabin, property and surrounding areas have to offer. It's guests like you that encourage us to keep doing what we're doing. This place is a blessing to share with others who also appreciate what a "Little Slice of Heaven" it is. Thank you for being wonderful guests. Hope to see you next time you need that break and getaway. Sincerely, Leigh & Wolf
