Modern 3 bed townhouse Walking distance to beach, La Cala de Mijas centre & golf

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,453 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms townhouse very close to beach, restaurants, bars & golf

Recently refurbished (finished in March 2016) 3 bedroom townhouse in a traditional white pueblo-style urbanisation, with aircon upstairs and down. Very friendly urbanisation with a management company on site who can help with any problems (LCS Management, run by Val, who is lovely and very helpful).

La Cala is a great fishing village that has developed into a tourist town, with mixed nationalities. It's not a late-night town particularly, but in the high season, you can usually find a busy bar at most hours. In low season, Olivia's is always busy at weekends. You can walk into the square or the road with the bars / restaurants within 5-7 minutes from our townhouse. There's also a large supermarket within a 4-5 minute walk of the house, and there is also a Lidl and Aldi in La Cala!

La Cala is fantastic - especially July and August, where the central square is busy with stalls, and there's quite often entertainment. It's very safe, and has a very nice family-friendly feel, where kids and parents are usually in square until midnight. There are some really nice, pricier restaurants with great food, and some equally nice cheaper places for pizza etc. Biddy Mulligans is a great family-friendly pub. There are also plenty of traditional Spanish places too.

There's loads to do for the kids in the surrounding area. Two go-karting tracks, the beach!, Dolphin-watching trips, fishing, Tivoli world (similar to Chessington world of adventures in the UK), Aquaparks and loads more.

I'm a (poor) golfer, and as a base for golf, La Cala is perfect. I prefer to be in a town and then get short taxi rides to golf, rather than be isolated on golf course accommodation. There are literally 12 courses within a 20 minute cab ride - ideal for the 19th hole. My favourite is El Chaparral, where the green on the 5th hole is 2 minutes walk from our house. I also really like calahonda, Cabopino and the 3 la cala resort courses. Al Haurin was a bit too hard for me, and Miraflores felt a bit cramped. I haven't played Santana yet. Those I have mentioned are very local (within 10 mins taxi ride). And as to the claim in the headline that golf is walking distance - There's La Noria, which is a nice 9 hole course, and is 10 minutes walk from the house.

Gibraltar is 40 minutes drive. Marbella is 20 minutes. Fuengirola is 10 minutes. Benalmadena is 20 minutes. Malaga airport is 20 minutes. Seville is 2 hours. You can even get a train from Malaga to Madrid in 4 hours.

The house is actually a townhouse, which in the case or ours - is like an apartment on 2 floors - with a nice big terrace. The living area has two pull-out double sofa-beds. The house can comfortably sleep 6, but could be more if you use the sofa-beds in the living room.

The house has a double room on the ground floor, with an ensuite shower and toilet. The room has a wardrobe, 2 chests of drawers/dressing table and 2 bedside tables.

There is an open plan kitchen/living area with new/modern kitchen, sofas and furniture. We also have a Bluetooth music tower, where you just need to sync your phone, tablet etc, and then you can play any saved music or Spotify-type music.

There's a TV with UK terrestrial channels, including CBEEBIES and there's also an Xbox 360 to keep them quiet while you sleep. You'll need to bring your own favourite games though. Xbox also plays DVDs though, so you can bring movies etc if needed.

The house has air-conditioning in the kitchen/living area, and the downstairs double bedroom. The kitchen should have everything you need with American-style fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle and all the plates, cups, pots and pans you should need.

Upstairs leads to a twin room, with built-in wardrobe, bedside table, and a small Juliet balcony, with shutters to block out the light entirely. The third bedroom can be used as a bedroom, but it leads out on to the large terrace overlooking the shared pool. So we prefer to keep it as a second living room. However, the sofa is a pull-out sofa bed, and we have a mattress topper in the wardrobe to make it comfier. There's also a chest of drawers and smaller built-in wardrobe in there with a safe. The curtains are blackout.

There is also a separate bathroom upstairs with a shower, sink and toilet.

The terrace has a table and chairs, and also 2 rattan sun loungers that we use as bench-style seating against the wall with cushions, but you can move them out and use them as sun loungers. The pictures show them as bench seats. The terrace is fantastic, and overlooks the community pool, which you can only access with a key - which you would have. Perfect for keeping an eye on the kids.

Within the urbanisation, there are 2 bars - the Sussex Bar and Antonio's. There's also a Spanish-style restaurant on-site that serves really good, simple food, if you fancy staying where you are in the evening.

About Damian and Aileen

We are a family of 4, with a boy and a girl (11 and 13). We live in Epsom in England, and bought the townhouse in the summer of 2015 because we love the area. The kids love it too.

Damian and Aileen purchased this house in 2015

Why Damian and Aileen chose Mijas

I fell in love with La Cala de Mijas on a golfing trip with my brother and parents. I'd also been on a stag weekend in Fuengirola years ago, and remembered loving the area. Our kids love La Cala, as do my wife and I. The beach is great, and the bus and train links are fantastic all down the coast if you don't want to drive. There's something for everybody.

I love playing golf (badly), and all of the courses are playable at any time in the year. If you book well-enough in advance, you can get a return flight for anywhere between £60-£100 return off-peak.

What makes this house unique

The best thing about where we are is the friendly urbanisation, and the fact that La Cala centre and the beach are 5-7 minutes walk away. No need for taxis, and you can have a drink and walk home.

Also - so much choice for golf, with 12+ courses within a 20 minute drive (at least 6 within a 10 minute drive). Better to stay in La Cala than at one golf course!

Great Property - would definitely come back

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this property. We received great joining instructions from Damian as well as confirmation of our various questions (and car hire guidance). The house is lovely, very modern and well equipped. There was only three of us at the property so we used the double room with ensuite (great shower!) and the twin room (loved the black out blinds). The property has air con throughout which was lovely to have on during the night.

We mainly used the terrace for meals and to sit out and enjoy the sun. There is a tv and dvd option there should you need it. There are some local bars nearby which have certain night entertainments on (quiz, karaoke etc), and a big Mercadona supermarket down the hill. We were able to use our hire car to do a big shop at the start of the holiday then topped up locally.

The walk into the main centre and beach takes about 10 minutes (max), and there are lots of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from. Beach loungers cost 5 euros, and there are the nice double bed options which cost 30 euros, with service on hand for drinks.

Would definitely recommend this property :)

La Cala de Mijas
Car: not necessary

La Cala is a great family fishing village that has grown into a small Tourist town, with many nationalities in tourist season. Perfect for golf - there are 12 golf courses within 20 minutes, including the La Cala resort, which is a 10 minute taxi ride away. The great thing about La Cala is that it is central to just about everything on the Costa Del Sol.

Our townhouse is 6 minutes walk to the bars and restaurants of La Cala, which is very friendly and relaxed. The beach is a 3 minute walk, and it's literally miles of sand.

Olivia's restaurant is in a beautiful spot. The recently-built boardwalk means you can walk all along the coast. Very popular with walkers.

I'm not a cyclist, but I'm told this is great cycling terrain, and one of the legs of the Spanish equivalent to the Tour de France began in La Cala in 2015.

I think La Cala is the perfect base for a holiday, whether as a family or group of friends. If you want something livelier, everything's a short taxi ride away.

Golf trips are perfect from here. Golf peak season tends to be in the off-peak tourist months. La Cala is perfect for being in the middle of the golf courses, and you can get to Marbella or Banus with 20 minutes for a livelier night.
