This rural hidden gem is a private, self -contained annexe of a former Victorian laundry, situated in the 1100 acres of glorious woodlands and fields that comprise the historic Faenol Park. Faenol Park occupies a unique position on the banks of the Menai Straits halfway between the University town of Bangor and Royal Caernarfon. The Escape presides over open fields, indigenous trees, with a magnificent mountainous backdrop of Snowdonia.

This unique bright and airy space retains many of its original features; high vaulted paneled ceilings, fantastic wooden beams, and five vaulted floor to ceiling picture windows. The essence and integrity of this light spacious atmosphere has been enhanced by the empathetic refurbishment using natural paints, colours and furnishings that make this wonderful space feel part of the surrounding landscape.

This private, centrally heated Self- contained annexe of a former Victorian laundry has plenty of free adjacent parking, as well as a covered area where you could store bikes.

The Escape is truly a space for comfortable and easy living, yet stylish in its simplicity. Here you will never be cold or uncomfortable, a fully central heated space, with on demand hot water; as well as a design that gives all the feel and benefits of living in a conservatory!

The large slate entrance hall provides plenty of space for equipment, outdoor clothes and shoes and even the dog bed!

The bright well-equipped kitchen is a joy to use and facilitates social interaction. The intimate, modern dining area and airy light lounge provide space for separate activities.

The two single bedrooms provide privacy and snugness, both are welcoming and comfortable. One is excitingly situated in a crog loft, the other self contained and ideal for those with limited mobility. Up in the roof, from the galleried king bedroom, you experience not only the views, but also an expansive sense of space, as if in an eerie.

Once here you will find you sleep deeply and wake refreshed to the sounds of birdsong, the fresh sea air and for early risers a glimpse of the sun colouring the mountains or the roe deer grazing below your window.

Enjoy a summer breakfast in the garden, with private, uninterrupted views.

Right from the front door, within minutes, you can stroll leisurely or with purpose on numerous local walks along the coastal path on the Menai Straits.

After a day of discovery or adventure, take time to relax outside in your own private, fenced, garden enjoying afternoon tea; or as dusk approaches chill with a glass of wine awaiting the numerous bats and start of the owls anthem. Here you are perfectly placed to identify constellations and the Milky Way (Snowdonia has 'Dark Sky' status).

About Kim Bernard & Martin Powdrill

Snowdonia captivated us on our Summer Holiday 2009, when visiting friends and retracing geography fieldtrips! On the way home we realised we wanted to create a new life in this stunning part of the country. So we left our senior management roles to live a better quality, slower life in one of the most dramatic and beautiful parts of the UK.

As part of this transition, we imagined, created and now run a successful personal development business –To enable people to create the life they have imagined. As part of the business we offered accommodation to enable clients to really experience something different.

We had such great client feedback, and soon realised how much are clients enjoyed their stay and that we had a natural talent for creating great holiday experiences. This has inspired us to extend our offer, in line with our principles, and provide authentic high quality and distinctive holiday home experiences here in Snowdonia. Our aim is to ensure our guests have a wonderful holiday and for us this starts with special touches, such as our welcome hampers, so we provide the experience we would like when we go away ourselves.

Kim Bernard & Martin Powdrill purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Kim Bernard & Martin Powdrill chose Llanddaniel Fab

A chance holiday with friends brought us to Snowdonia and we re-acquainted ourselves with the dramatic splendour and charm of this special area of north Wales. Our wonderful eclectic home here, a former Victorian Laundry found us. It not only provided us with the ideal space to live the life we desired, but also to create a successful Personal development and training business.

The unique setting and unusual building also enabled us to provide this amazing experience for guests.

Initially we were so taken with the annexe, the former boiler room, (now The Escape) we colonised it ourselves, and made it our living area. However, as our business has developed, and we have now renovated the front Victorian house, we decided to upgrade this wonderful space and provide this opportunity for our guests to enjoy this special place.

What makes this cottage unique

The Escape is a perfect retreat, for those in search of a tranquil, rural haven, with uninterrupted views, as well as a warm, comfortable and sociable open-plan space with every facility for easy living and ample room for four people to enjoy their week together!

A truly unique space to stay, an experience in itself, created for those who yearn for time out in a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. From the moment you arrive, you will receive a warm Welsh welcome (Croeso) with a hamper to get things going, and feel the strains and pressures of everyday life float away……

Here you can really get away from it all, and yet it is readily accessible and well placed to begin all sorts of adventures! Be advised however, once you have discovered this hidden gem, you will want to come back again!

Quirky, pretty and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was in an amazing location, looking out over a meadow with a forest beyond. No other houses or even lights visible. Look out for the deer sneaking into the meadow& listen out for the pheasants! The cottage is really well equipped but be aware that all guests have to be fully mobile as there are a lot of steps inside the property. Not suitable for young children but perfect for my husband & myself, our 2 teens & our dog. It's a pretty walk to Y Felinheli & make sure you have a meal at the Garddfon Inn. It's an easy car journey to the sea and to the foot of Snowdon. The owners, Martin & Kim, are lovely and very knowledgeable about the area. The acid test- would we go back? Yes, absolutely!

Cottage holiday at its best!

  • 5 of 5

The Escape’s location is scenic, secluded and idyllic yet with easy access to all that the surrounding area has to offer. And if you prefer to leave your car at home, there’s a bus stop at the end of the lane with regular service to Bangor and Caernarfon, both of which are beautiful towns in their own right but through which you can link to other destinations.

The cottage is inviting, comfortable, and fully furnished and equipped. If you want or need something, you will most likely find it. Martin and Kim have thought of everything, right down to the most ingenious measuring cup we have ever seen. And the audio system produces some of the finest sound we have every heard.

The town of Y Felinheli is an easy walk via footpaths within the estate and along the Coastal Path. Your payoff is great views along the paths, a charming harbor as you enter town, and some great cafes, restaurants and lively pubs. There is also a gym in the town that offers inexpensive day passes.

If you’re looking for a cottage in this area and The Escape is available, stop your search. Book your visit before someone beats you to it. You won’t find anything else like it. And Kim and Martin will make certain your stay is comfortable and worry free.

Comfortable Welsh Rare Bit

  • 4 of 5

This is indeed a rare bit of Wales !

The "Escape" is a well furnished recently renovated property overlooking the countryside just next to the Menai Straights. I had lots of sheep for neighbours or should that be baaabours.

The hosts were excellent communicators and left me free wine, fresh eggs and a homemade loaf - all consumed.

The only downside was an extremely scary cactus that resembled the medusa's head of snakes that I was convinced grew an inch nearer me each day.

Wonderful escape

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at "The Escape". The location is ideal and "The Escape" is truly a home away from home. Beautifully done and very cosy. It also has everything you need in terms of cooking utensils, dishwasher, etc (this is quite rare). We highly recommend it.

And thank you so much Kim and Martin for helping us out with our little "predicament" :-)

Restful and quiet. Able to walk and cycle from the cottage. Good sleeps. Lovely kitchen to cook in and lovely views across the fields and lots of pheasants to watch. Really enjoyed our stay here. Thank you.

Situated on the north wales Coast, in the pretty harbour village of Y Felinheli, with direct access to the All Wales Coastal Path. An ideal holiday location, offering something for all ages. Spend your time exploring, touring, walking, biking, bird watching in the dramatic splendour of Snowdonia; as well as sampling local food and enjoying harbour towns, beaches, countryside and castles, all on your doorstep.

Y Felinheli itself is of significant historic interest, formerly Port Dinorwic, one of the busiest slate export businesses in Britain in its time. Remnants of this past history remain, in its design and infrastructure; and photographs and pictures adorn the local Tafarn Y Garddfon, where you can spend time on the seafront. There is also a main post office, restaurant and a popular cafe. The nature inspired theme park, The Greenwood centre is just up the road, as is the National Water Sports Centre for Wales – Plas Menai. The historic Telford’s suspension bridge at Menai Bridge is a few miles up the road by car or bike; or a couple of hours walk along the coastal path, from the front door.

The former railway line, now a national cycle/walking path, passes through Y Felinheli and from here you can cycle off road not only to Bangor, but nearly down to Porthmadog.

Y Felinheli is halfway between Royal Caernarfon with its famous castle and bustling walled town, offering activities as diverse as cruising along the Straits, crabbing in the harbour, the theatre or award wining dining out. From here you can take The Welsh Highland railway and experience the incredible scenery and bygone days of steam. Just outside Caernarfon you can find Snowdonia riding stables, and Dinas Dinlle offers a long sandy beach. The University City of Bangor offers an impressive cathedral, a grand university, a pier spanning halfway across the Straits and a brand new Arts complex.

A short 15-minute drive will take you to the foot of Snowdonia in Llanberis; from here you can walk or take the train. Or re-live the history of the Slate Industry at the Museum or experience the amazing electric mountain.
