It is a typical residential area with many shops, restaurants, clubs and supermarkets, very well connected to the main points of interest of the city. Bus line 810 takes to the Colosseum (about 13 minutes; there is one bus every 12 minutes); at about 1 km is San Giovanni in Laterano Basilica (15 minutes on foot). This is one of the most important four papal basilicas in Rome, fully renovated by the Borromini during the Baroque period.
Next to the Basilica is the Palazzo del Laterano, which comprises a section of the Vatican Historical Museum. In the square stands a huge obelisk made of red granite, higher than 30 meters, which is reckoned as the biggest obelisk in the world. Within very easy walking distance is the National Museum of Music Instruments, the main institute of this kind in Europe, and Santa Croce in Gerusalemme Basilica, one of the seven churches in Rome part of the pilgrim route.
