About Philip Hume
Philip and Jenny live in the main house near to The Studio, so are on hand to help with any queries or advice on places to visit. Philip has researched, written and published a book on aspects of the history of the area. We moved to the area at the end of 2014 and are thoroughly enjoying exploring this beautiful and varied place.
Philip Hume purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Philip Hume chose Orleton
We immediately fell in love with the secluded, peaceful, location of the property surrounded by woodland and birdsong. The countryside is beautiful, with a host of varied walking landscapes, fascinating historic remains and family visitor attractions. It offers the best of both worlds - rural tranquility with quick access to local market towns. Ludlow is a wonderful, lively place where there always seems to be something going on!
What makes this Cabin unique
We converted 'The Studio' from a painter's studio (hence the name!) into the holiday cottage as it is now. In doing so, we were seeking to maintain the lovely light that the artist had needed for his work and feel that we have succeeded in doing so. In order to do this, we have placed the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living area upstairs.

A quite unique and wonderful place, full of character and exuding an air of relaxation.
Stayed from 21st-25th May 2018 and had superb weather until the last day. The Studio is well equipped and unbelievably well situated.
The owners provided a thoughtful collection of goodies to enjoy and the comfort of their guests was obviously important to them.
The kitchen had everything that one could possibly require and the furniture was extremely comfortable, in particular the settees and the beds.
The only trivial fault l would comment on was a cotton bud from the previous owner left on my friend's en suite floor!
The showers are very efficient and easy to deal with.
Without hesitation l would stay here again and again. The livestock were a delight and added greatly to the enjoyment of the stay for me.
The location is perfect for Shropshire, Herefordshire and The Marches.
Wonderful place, perfect family getaway 💚
We arrived at the Studio and were greeted by Philip who made us feel very welcome. Home made bread, cake and eggs from the ducks and chickens were a lovely touch and absolutely delicious. The Studio was so cosy and welcoming and equipped with absolutely everything you might need. The weather was glorious and the decking area was just perfect for relaxing and listening to the birds. Our spaniel Summer thoroughly enjoyed the lovely walks and splashing in the river!! Local pub food is excellent albeit a little pricey but the quality is great plus they allow dogs in which was great.
Would return here without a doubt. Thanks to Philip and Jenny for such a lovely welcome.
An idyllic place to spend a few days
We spent 4 nights at The Studio and had a wonderful, relaxing time. The hosts were very friendly, welcoming and helpful and the property is clean, comfortable and well-equipped. We especially enjoyed sitting on the balcony, surrounded by birdsong and wild flowers, enjoying the views and watching the resident ducks. There are beautiful walks from the door and we hardly needed to use the car. We didn't want to leave and have already booked a stay next year!
The property was just how we imagined, quite location property clean and ideal for dogs & family
This was stress free break, has everything you would need, lots of things to see and do locally if you like country, Ludlow 10 mins away if you need shops,we had lovely sunny weather so we were happy to sit on deck, only spent my birthday weekend this time but will go back again for longer.
We had a fantastic stay at the studio, the accommodation was first class with a multitude of entertainment ( books, CD's, DVD's, games and an excellent sky TV package) to keep you occupied after a long day walking the hills. Jenny and Philip were perfect hosts and made sure everything was available the first minute you entered the studio, the freshly cooked bread, cakes, milk, tea bags, eggs and much much more ensured there was no panic to rush to the shops on our arrival. Philip has made a great effort to ensure lots of information, maps of the local area all marked out with different walks for all abilities, booklets for all local activities were available. We really enjoyed sitting out on the decking early doors to hear the woods come alive. Great place to stay and we will be returning soon.
Hideaway in the woods
Fantastic little place, fully equipped with everything you need for self catering. Perfect spot for exploring the Welsh Marches. It is so quiet!!!!. Being remote it's best to ensure you have food stocks but the owners provide enough in the welcome pack to get you started, and provide basic consumable. We got duck eggs in our welcome pack!!!!
Dis not bother us but there was no signal on EE network.
Set in woodland close to many walking trails in the heart of Mortimer Country, The Studio gives access to miles of forest and open countryside including the famous Shropshire Hills.
It is only ten minutes from historic Ludlow with its medieval castle, excellent food outlets and many festivals.
Lying in 'the Welsh Marches', the area has numerous castles, churches and historic houses - including two National Trust properties, five castles, and twelve or more historic churches all within 15 minutes drive.
There are many beautiful gardens to be visited and enjoyed.
In addition, the black and white villages of Herefordshire are only a short distance away. The historic city of Hereford lies half an hour away.
Local traditions are strongly maintained in the area with Morris dancing, wassailing and other rural spectacles still to be enjoyed.
Hay on Wye with its literary festival, the glories of Chirk castle, the mountains of central Wales, Worcester and the Malvern Hills, the Seven Valley Railway, the West Midlands Safari Park, the World Heritage Site of Iron Bridge Gorge, historic Shrewsbury are all no more than an hours drive away.
