About Philip Hume
Philip and Jenny live in the main house near to The Studio, so are on hand to help with any queries or advice on places to visit. Philip has researched, written and published a book on aspects of the history of the area. We moved to the area at the end of 2014 and are thoroughly enjoying exploring this beautiful and varied place.
Philip Hume purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Philip Hume chose Ludlow
We immediately fell in love with the secluded, peaceful, location of the property surrounded by woodland and birdsong. The countryside is beautiful, with a host of varied walking landscapes, fascinating historic remains and family visitor attractions. It offers the best of both worlds - rural tranquility with quick access to local market towns. Ludlow is a wonderful, lively place where there always seems to be something going on!
What makes this Cabin unique
We converted 'The Studio' from a painter's studio (hence the name!) into the holiday cottage as it is now. In doing so, we were seeking to maintain the lovely light that the artist had needed for his work and feel that we have succeeded in doing so. In order to do this, we have placed the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living area upstairs.

A most delightful Studio in a very quiet location but with in easy reach of local historic towns and villages including the 'Black and White' trail. The Studio is well equipped and very cosy. Plenty of hot water and heating at the flick of a switch [if needed].The 2 bedrooms and bathroom are on the ground floor and living accommodation upstairs to appreciate the lovely view.Plenty of wild life.Highly recommended.
We had a great time at The Studio. Phillip and Jenny were so friendly and helpful. The accommodation had everything we needed and we were very comfortable there. Definitely planning to visit again!
Idyllic family-friendly rural retreat
We are a family of 4, with children age 7 and 11, and were lucky enough to stay in The Studio for three weeks in August. The Studio was a perfect, comfortable, clean and quiet place to base ourselves, whilst we explored all that the surrounding area had to offer.
My husband and I enjoyed relaxing on the decked terrace whilst the children explored the acre of grounds, built dens in the secure woods and made friends with the pet sheep, ducks and chickens.
There was plenty to keep us busy in the local and wider area, and we explored castles, caves, Safari, river walks and horse riding, to name a few.
Jenny and Philip were wonderful hosts and made us all feel very welcome. We look forward to returning soon!
Peace and tranquility
This was our second time here and for once the weather was kind to us. The owners Philip and Jenny are lovely hosts and the welcoming gift of fresh baked bread milk eggs and cakes were a boon after a long drive. What is the most appreciative feature of the studio is the peace and tranquility it offers yet not far away was the lovely town of Ludlow. Tess our Cockerpoo really enjoyed Mortimer forest just 10 minutes drive away and Queenswood 11 miles away. The Bakers Arms under a mile from the studio serves great food in big portions and definitely deserves a visit or two. All in all a great break. Pete Jan and Tess from Margate
Deep in the countryside, with nothing but birdsong!
Lovely little place to get away from it all. Dog friendly, but no lawn and best to keep your babies on a lead. Place is a little tired and could do with some tlc, but it is so welcoming and so are the hosts. Milk, cheese, butter and scrummy cakes are left, so there’s no need to find a shop straight off. As well as all you need to make tea, or coffee etc.
Forgot to mention the lovely showers, one for each bedroom!
Make sure you photo the directions as we couldn’t access ours, when TomTom took us up the wrong road. No phone signal!!
Thank you xx
Tranquil county retreat perfect for dog owners.
The 'Studio' provided all we needed for a relaxing holiday. Within easy reach of Ludlow and several excellent National Trust properties and with several walks on the doorstep, the location is ideal. We particularly appreciated the sun-drenched veranda and the downstairs bedrooms which remained cool in the hot weather. The owners were very friendly and provided an excellent welcome pack of food items. Highly recommended, especially for dog owners.
Set in woodland close to many walking trails in the heart of Mortimer Country, The Studio gives access to miles of forest and open countryside including the famous Shropshire Hills.
It is only ten minutes from historic Ludlow with its medieval castle, excellent food outlets and many festivals.
Lying in 'the Welsh Marches', the area has numerous castles, churches and historic houses - including two National Trust properties, five castles, and twelve or more historic churches all within 15 minutes drive.
There are many beautiful gardens to be visited and enjoyed.
In addition, the black and white villages of Herefordshire are only a short distance away. The historic city of Hereford lies half an hour away.
Local traditions are strongly maintained in the area with Morris dancing, wassailing and other rural spectacles still to be enjoyed.
Hay on Wye with its literary festival, the glories of Chirk castle, the mountains of central Wales, Worcester and the Malvern Hills, the Seven Valley Railway, the West Midlands Safari Park, the World Heritage Site of Iron Bridge Gorge, historic Shrewsbury are all no more than an hours drive away.
