About Philip Hume

Philip and Jenny live in the main house near to The Studio, so are on hand to help with any queries or advice on places to visit. Philip has researched, written and published a book on aspects of the history of the area. We moved to the area at the end of 2014 and are thoroughly enjoying exploring this beautiful and varied place.

Philip Hume purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Philip Hume chose Shropshire

We immediately fell in love with the secluded, peaceful, location of the property surrounded by woodland and birdsong. The countryside is beautiful, with a host of varied walking landscapes, fascinating historic remains and family visitor attractions. It offers the best of both worlds - rural tranquility with quick access to local market towns. Ludlow is a wonderful, lively place where there always seems to be something going on!

What makes this cabin unique

We converted 'The Studio' from a painter's studio (hence the name!) into the holiday cottage as it is now. In doing so, we were seeking to maintain the lovely light that the artist had needed for his work and feel that we have succeeded in doing so. In order to do this, we have placed the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living area upstairs.

A tranquil and secluded place with an abundance of bird life

  • 5 of 5

I dont think i have ever been to a place with such an array of bird life. Sitting on the deck listening to natures music first thing in the morning was magical, and very theraputic. A truly relaxing little break. It is a little restricted with height in the main living area due to the design, but not a major issue, we are both over 6ft and got by ok. Great touch from the owners with fresh bread, eggs, milk and other bits on arrival. Plus they are really nice people. Excellent value for money and somewhere to go for a relaxing little break.

" THE STUDIO "LUDLOW

  • 5 of 5

A lovely quiet and peaceful place, I liked the idea of the bedrooms downstairs which were kept cool during the very hot days we had during our visit, and the tranquility was great, the overall view from the decking was nice to look at whilst having an early morning cup of tea.

Thanks must of course go to Philip and Jenny who were great, fresh bread, eggs, tea, coffee and milk on our arrival so we did not have to dash out shopping, and not forgetting the cake, we will certainly make a return visit to Mortimer Country near Ludlow sometime in the future, there is still lots to see which we could not fit in.Ludlow itself was a fascinating town with lots of history and really outstanding buildings of great architectural design.I would recommend this as a place to visit and stay.

Worth every penny!

Tranquility. No passing traffic. Comfortable. Bedrooms downstairs and living rooms upstairs to enjoy the view of the woods, birds and squirrels. Excellent starter pack with eggs from the resident chickens. Idyllic holiday.

Fabulous location but property needs updating.

  • 3 of 5

The property is in a lovely location with trees birds and decent views.

The property itself needs updating . The main bathroom shower not good but ok couldnt shut the door! The outside full of weeds which I had to remove!! The decking was a bit mucky with cobwebs leaves. The door leading to decking very stiff.

Owners lovely and enjoyed watching the sheep and ducks

Nice touch with cake bread on arrival plenty of tea coffee

Sounds like I'm being picky but have stayed in many cottages and this one wasn't as nicely finished but we really did enjoy our stay!!

peaceful, beautiful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time on our holiday. The studio was very comfortable and well equipped. The gardens were so lovely to wander around. There were no sirens or traffic noise just birdsong. Jenny and Philip were on hand but also left us to our own devices which was what we wanted.

We will definitely go back to the Studio, it was perfect.
