Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).

Marilly Morton purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Marilly Morton chose Mount Rainier

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglas, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas, offering year round recreational activities. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and .

What makes this chalet unique

I love the outdoors and it doesn't get more outdoors than this: set in tall timbers, Hall Creek singing water mysteries at the falls behind the house, private hot tub, star studded sky, passing elk, peeks of Mt. Rainier. . . what a combination! Private, cozy, comfortable and AFFORDABLE all at the same time. It's a great place for dreaming! We have 4 houses on adjacent properties, and there have been a couple occasions when all the houses were full, forcing us to rent local hotel rooms. It was more expensive in the hotel with far less amenities and privacy, so why would you want to stay anywhere else?

Lovely little cabin with a great location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here three nights while we visited Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainer parks, and it is a great location between the two. It is well equipped and cozy. Packwood is very close with groceries and food. My only complaint is the shower. The shower head is aimed at my head, and with a small shower, there is no good way to get my body wet! A hand held would greatly improve the situation.

Cozy, Comfortable, and Convenient

  • 4 of 5

This mountain chalet provided a very comfortable home base for our explorations of Mount St. Helens and Mt. Rainier National Park. The location could not have been better. We appreciated the cozy space, especially the wonderful bedroom a/c unit which kept us more than cool when temps outside neared 100 degrees! The bed was also quite comfortable. The unit was exceptionally clean. Although the kitchen cabinets and drawers were a little worn, we had all we needed to cook meals. Marilly was incredibly responsive to emails and answered many of our questions before we booked and after. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

Cozy and convenient

  • 4 of 5

What a beautiful place. Well appointed kitchen. The washer/dryer was a plus. The hot tub was good to end our busy days exploring Mt Rainier. The resident herd of elk were amazing to watch. We will be back.

Perfectly Private

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin last minute for a weekend away after we got married. Marilyn was very accommodating and the place was perfect size for just the two of us. We enjoyed the hot tub and the cozy setting for watching football all Sunday! It was a quiet setting. Even if there had been other renters nearby we would have still had privacy. The town was close enough to get necessities and we saw tons of elk passing through! I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a private getaway for the weekend.

We went up for my girlfriend's birthday and had a great time. The cabin was close to Mt. Rainier for exploring and enjoying local wildlife. The kitchen is well stocked only thing missing was a strainer. We enjoyed the coziness and peace of the area. Definitely recommended.

Owner's Response: Dear JA, We are grateful for the small part we got to play in LN’s birthday celebration. Mt. Rainier and the local wildlife are always the frosting to any cake served in the area. We are proud to provide for guest’s cooking needs. I’m having my housekeeper don her deerstalker, raise her magnify glass and solve the mystery of the missing “strainer”. There should have been one in white on site. Because we have 4 houses on adjacent properties, it is quite common for larger groups to rent more than one house and meal share. Unfortunately the equipment it takes to prepare and serve those foods often find their residency moved. If that is the case here, we will have it returned forthwith. Thank you for mentioning it, and thank you for your comments and recommendation, Marilly (addendum - our housekeeping sleuth found the elusive strainer. It was there all along and in the LAST place where people always find things . . . you should have kept looking)
