About the property

2 bedrooms in stunning friendly tranquil village with great pub, shop, tea room

Lilac Cottage is a unique Grade II listed hamstone cottage believed to be over 400 years old with many original historical features which has been styled with authentic vintage furnishings but has modern luxurious comforts. The cottage has been featured in both Homes & Antiques (Vintage Special) and Vintage Homes magazines. Fully refurbished in 2016, it was once the owners' holiday home so every effort has been made to make sure your stay will be as perfect as possible.

With two bedrooms upstairs under the thatched roof, there is a good sized master bedroom with king size antique iron-framed bed (space for a travel cot) and a pretty bedroom with twin vintage wooden bedsteads, ideal for a family or adults sharing. Luxury Cath Kidston/White Company cotton bedlinen, top quality mattresses, pillows and duvets and towels are provided. Downstairs, you can enjoy a comfortable sitting room with original inglenook fireplace for roaring fires, flatscreen TV and DVD player, vintage boardgames and lots of books. Wifi is available. There is a separate dining room with vintage wireless, spacious well-fitted kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and gas/electric range cooker. The bathroom has both a separate bath tub and freestanding shower unit.

Lilac Cottage also benefits from very pretty private cottage gardens front and back and a patio for al fresco dining. Situated on a private path, with no passing traffic and few street lights, you can expect complete peace and relaxation. A super welcome pack will await your arrival packed with essentials like bread and milk plus freshly laid eggs from our own free-range hens and West Country staples such as cake or scones, homemade jam, clotted cream and cider!

Hinton St. George is an ideal base for exploring all that Somerset, Dorset and Devon has to offer. The village offers a fantastic pub which has won Gastropub of the Year, a well-stocked community shop and post office, a quaint tea room and a village hall with playground for children all within a very short walk. There are numerous pretty villages in the surrounding area with pubs, tea rooms, cider barns and great opportunities for antiques shopping. Walking is incredible. Crewkerne is 3 miles away and has banks, shops and a Waitrose supermarket plus a leisure centre with swimming pool. The coast is approximately half an hour's drive away at Lyme Regis or West Bay. It is easy to use the railway to explore as Crewkerne Station is some 3 miles away and provides easy access to Exeter and beyond or alternatively, Salisbury and London. Small dogs welcome by prior arrangement with owners. Short breaks sometimes available ONLY in low season or at short notice, please enquire.

About Helen Pinnington

Having lived for many years in the South East, we bought Lilac Cottage as a holiday home for our own use to escape the city and have enjoyed many fabulous stays there. Now we're thrilled to offer this opportunity to our guests as we fell in love with the area so much that we decided to move our family here in 2014 and we now enjoy this beautiful area 365 days per year.

Why Helen Pinnington chose Hinton Saint George

As we have stayed in the property many times ourselves, you can be assured that we have experienced the cottage from the guests' point of view. We have done our best to go above and beyond the average holiday rental experience. The fittings and furnishings are of the best quality and in addition, in authentic vintage style which has been curated over many years. To stay in Lilac Cottage is to step back in time but with the benefits of modern comforts. Hinton St George is such a special location, we've never found anywhere else like it and we think you will agree.

What makes this cottage unique

Lilac Cottage is a real piece of history which is such a pleasure to experience. People lived in this property over 400 years ago which we think is pretty amazing! The building has immense character, that coupled with the unique furnishings and its unbeatable location, will ensure you a truly unforgettable and magical stay.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this lovely character cottage. Everything we needed was provided and it made for a lovely quiet weeks vacation.

The village is perfectly placed for exploring the surrounding area. With plenty of activities for people of all ages and interests.

We are planning on returning in the future.
