O POMAR & CABANAS:
‘O Pomar’ is a brand new holiday village increasing in popularity because of its great location and spacious, modern accommodation. The complex has a cash machine, snack bar and a large swimming pool with sunbeds. The surroundings are well maintained with paths and plenty of parking for cars. O Pomar is a short walk away from Cabanas village which can be reached in around 5 minutes on foot.
Cabanas is a small and pretty fishing village and is not overcrowded with tourists.It remains largely unspoilt and has a friendly, family atmosphere. The whole village can be leisurely strolled, from end to end, in around 30 minutes and has an excellent choice of restaurants, bars and cafes catering for all tastes - most of which are along the sea front capturing the day time sunshine. For smaller budgets and a taste of the real Algarve, there are also a number of traditional bars and Tascas serving typical Portuguese meals in the back streets at very reasonable prices! The village has 2 good supermarkets with a range of fresh produce and there is also a daily market, butchers and bakers. There are relatively few gifts shops, but in the height of summer, there are stalls selling hand crafted goods. Cabanas is not a destination for those seeking activity and night life - the atmosphere is generally relaxed and is perfect for socialising, relaxing and dining. Good bus/rail links.
THE BEAUTIFUL TOWN OF TAVIRA:
When staying in this accommodation a visit to the beautiful town centre of Tavira is essential! Once known as the capital of the Algarve, Tavira stands proud amongst Portuguese history books and you will not fail to be enthralled by its unspoilt charm, character and tranquility. As you wander along the cobbled streets, you'll see an abundance of history and wonderful architecture. A Roman bridge links the 2 parts of the town across the River Gilao, its sides decorated with traditional old bars and restaurants - perfect for lazy lunches or a glass or 2!.
On one side of the town there is a large square which has entertainment in the summer months, and by crossing the Roman Bridge to the other side of the town, you will find a little more life in the evenings with a great selection of restaurants tucked away down the streets and a few later opening café/bars. Features and things to visit include the many churches (37 in total!), the Town Castle and the Camara Obscura with its stunning aerial views. There is a range of shops to explore, as well as the old market building recently restored with cafes, shops and artisan, and also the traditional indoor market selling locally grown produce and fresh fish. To enjoy and see the full Tavira aspect, you can take the passenger train which follows a set route around the town, or you can personalize your experience by taking a ‘TUK TUK’ tour in the small vehicles for 2 – 6 persons.
Tavira is the perfect central location, with great bus, train and road networks connecting along the whole of the Algarve Coastline.
OTHER THINGS TO SEE AND DO:
…….by travelling a little further afield there are a good range of things to do to suit all tastes. For nature lovers there are forest walks, cruises along the River Guadiana or natures trails along the Ria Formosa Reserve where bird watching is in abundance! By travelling towards the West there are some excellent shopping centres in Faro and Ghia as well as the famous Water Parks and Zoo Marine (wonderful for children), all easily reached by car or by day trip coach (around 45 minutes). From this property it is also easy to take a day trip to Spain. The lovely border town of Ayamonte is not far, and once there you can sample the delights of another country, including wine, tapas and excellent shopping. You can travel by car, or use public transport to get to Vila Real de Santo Antonio and from there take the 15 minute ferry crossing across the Guadiana River between Spain and Portugal. For the more adventurous the vibrant city of Seville is approx 170km away and for budding historians the Castle at Castro Marim is worth a look.
This is perfect accommodation for golfers wishing to sample the excellent courses situated in the Eastern Algarve. Within a 20km radius there are 6 courses to choose from. Benamor and the 2 Quintas (Ria and Cima) are the most popular and have fantastic scenery and sea views. The prestigious Monte Rei course designed by Jack Nicklaus, whilst a little costly, offers the height of golfing luxury. Travelling East to towards the Spanish Border, the challenging courses of Castro Marim and the Ballesteros Signature Course Quinta do Vale both come highly recommended.
