Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

Aloha and welcome to the Big Island!

Hale Kealoha beckons, with a central location that puts all of the wonders of the island within reach. This one-bedroom apartment “ohana” is conveniently located near the Kona airport, beautiful beaches and rugged shoreline of the Kohala and Kona Coasts. The excitement and fun of Kailua town, with many dining options, is about eight miles to the south, along with more scenic, historical and water adventures. Your Hawaiian adventure is at your fingertips.

Kona is on the sunny side of the island, and the beaches a few miles north of the unit are spectacular and the visibility in the water is unparalleled. The unit is perched up on the Hualalai dormant volcano, with the beaches below and the cloud farm above. Nearby lava fields are plentiful and stand as a testament to the wrath of the Hawaiian goddess, Pele.

The spacious no-stairs condo unit (540 sqft) is beautifully decorated and offers a living room/TV area, free WiFi, kitchenette (with double-burner Farberware hot plate, microwave, full-size refrigerator and coffee maker), private bathroom and private entrance. The unit can sleep two people in the queen-size bed. The house sits at roughly 780 feet elevation making for cool nights following warm Hawaiian days.

The photos tell the story, but then again, who comes to the Islands to stay in their room? If you’re looking for champagne on a beer budget, this may be perfect for you!

Because of the central location, there is some traffic noise. The convenience and attractive price more than make up for what may be a minor annoyance to some (the results have been mostly positive, but some guests were bothered for the first few days).

Please contact us with any questions. We look forward to welcoming you to Hale Kealoha!

Tina and Pat -- Thanks for everything; we had a great stay and were very comfortable here! This is a beautiful unit. If we find ourselves on the Big Island again, we'll be back!

One star is for the location close to Kona Airport, and the other star is for the hot shower.

  • 2 of 5

I wish I could give more stars, but besides the convinient location to KOA, and hot water for your shower, this place was our least favorite of the 4 places we stayed in Hawaii. The place looks good in pictures, but didn't look clean when we arrived. There was thick dust and cobwebs on the bed frame, and the dishes looked dirty, so we didn't use them. We almost left late at night when a whole swarm of winged ants started crawling out of a cabinet and got all over our luggage and in our bed before we could stomp them all. We took pictures and sent them to the owner of the property, but she just said that Hawaii has bugs. There are bugs in California too, but my house is not infested. We chose to stay that night because it was so late already, and chose to stay one more night as it was our last night in Hawaii and we didn't want to have to find and pay for a hotel when we had activities that we didn't want to miss out on. We just sealed up our luggage, and stayed out all day, so we made it work, but it wasn't pleasant to come back and sleep there for our last night.

Dirty toilet

  • 2 of 5

The decor was nice but the toilet was dirty, and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a few weeks. Also dishes still had food from previous guests. Lastly TV/dish lost signal every 20 minutes.

Nice!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here as we had a late arrival into Kona, but were actually staying on the other side of the island. We didn't want to drive there so late at night. I looked up some hotels, but this condo was a better deal and had much better reviews. The condo was clean and located in a quiet neighborhood. The owner was very accommodating considering our late arrival and the fact that we were only staying one night. I would definitely stay here again.

Close to airport

  • 2 of 5

The accommodation was just O.K. the bed needs to be replaced and there is no outside area to sit at. Remember to take your own soap for the shower and there was none.

Okay for an overnighter

  • 3 of 5

Unit was nicely decorated and very clean. Due to owners understandable concern about electric bills the water heater (you have to go outside then into the garage to access) must be turned on 30 minutes prior to taking a shower. The full size fridge also must be turned up from the lowest setting. Dish TV control is quite involved but lacks instructions. No A/C but there is a ceiling fan in the front room and the bedroom plus a pedestal fan. In spite of this being in early April the Kona area was going thru a heat wave in the low 80's and I was constantly wiping sweat off and found sleeping in the mugginess difficult since the unit lacks cross ventilation. If you can do w/o the A/C unit is priced well for short stays for a couple of solo.

Location near the airport is a plus.

Owner opts to communicate by text and does not have personal contact with tenant.

Small, clean and tidy.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much, however the bed did leave something to be desired. It was very hard and bowed in the middle. Would suggest the purchase of a new mattress if you continue to rent.
