About the property

This beautiful, traditionally built Norfolk Flint house, dates back to the 1600's, with parts of the home having been extended since. This used to serve as part of the neighbouring Manor House at Lynford Hall. The hay-loft is still visible now where the horses were bought in whilst their owners sought rest in the public house next-door!

Our home is very well equipped as we want our visitors to experience a home-from-home- holiday. Once you enter the home, into a large airy hallway (where there's plenty of space for the wellies and walking boots!), you have direct access to the whole ground floor. The living room, to the right, is cosy and inviting with sofa, recliners and large seats, a wide-screen TV with freeview and DVD player. We have also left a broad selection of DVDs for any film lovers. The traditional, spacious and well-equipped kitchen, includes range cooker, fridge freezer, microwave and all utensils. This is a social space as, with all older homes, the kitchen was the hub of the house and this is echoed with a dining table being available here also. The galley of the kitchen leads to a separate WC and hand basin. The galley also ends with the backdoor to the main garden, which is very unique.

There is a large dining room separate to the dining area in kitchen, where the table can be extended for parties of 8 easily for a more formal or grand meal. There is a door here through to a room, originally the butchers room! This is a large room that has been used over time for storage and (whilst we are aware is in need of decorating) doubles as a playroom for children and stores the all important garden chairs, beach chairs and windbreakers. There is a set of stairs here which gives access to the attic conversion. This space is not open for visitors yet.

The first Double bedroom is also downstairs, which has been very useful for our more elderly members of the family who are not overly keen to make the stairs after a long day in the garden ! This room has a brand-new double bed and bedding and houses an antique bookcase, built into the walls.

The first floor is accessed by the main staircase in the hall. Just before you get to the first floor, there is a utility room on your left. In here we have provided a new washing machine, a huge front loading tumble dryer, ironing board, iron, drying rails and rack. This has proven very useful over time as muddy autumn walks and summer splashing in the sea can become rather messier than at first thought!

The huge main bathroom is then directly on your left as you come to the first floor. This is entered via two steps. There is a large walk-in shower, WC, basin, vanity units, shaving plug and an extra large bath- ultimate for those long soaks after a long hike.

The twin bedroom is fully furnished with two full sized single beds, one of which has been fitted with a Tempur mattress. There are a further two mattresses under these beds which can be used for other guests if requested. A large wardrobe and chest of drawers is also available with this room.

The 3rd bedroom, further down the hall, is a double room. This is a very comfortable bed with bedside tables and an antique wardrobe (many of our younger visitors say it reminds them of the wardrobe in Narnia!).

Our largest bedroom, for which you have two steps into, houses a Super-King bed, which is incredibly comfortable. There are also two large chest of drawers and a double cupboard in here for your stay. There is also a large TV in here, a far cry from the flat screen however!

We also have available a travel cot, which can be used for your duration, and a cot-bed with mattress and all bedding which can be made ready for your arrival (for a small extra charge and if requested in advance).

There is adequate parking outside the house for two large cars in a private bay area and a further space further up the private road that runs alongside our land. This space is grassed and we request that people are aware of how water logged this can become after heavy rains. There is also ample parking in the village alongside the green outside our home.

The garden is unique, as previously stated, due to the nature of how the surrounding area has changed over time. Our generous garden is completely private and has the benefit of not being overlooked by a soul. The garden has many different areas including a large expanse of lawn, which always catches the sun more shady areas under the mature trees. There is a courtyard with a comfortable bench for those morning coffees or evening drinks and, with comfortable garden chairs that can be taken from storage, many a relaxing day can be had just in the garden area alone. There is a side garden to the property too.

The home has been much loved for so many years and has a unique character and aged charm which we are sure our visitors will love.

This stunning home has been our countryside retreat for many years. As a family now, we all work full-time in various professions and it is simply wonderful to have somewhere to escape the hustle and bustle of daily living in London. Our family have been taking holidays here since we were small and we now have the pleasure of sharing this with our own children. We have shared this gem with many over the years and want to welcome visitors to our home to show what a superbly beautiful part of our country Norfolk and Suffolk are.

What makes this house unique

The sheer tranquility of this village and the unique rooms in this house was what my parents fell in love with, all those years ago. The garden had them both spell-bound and having then explored the immediate area, knew this was going to be where they would finally retire. Many of our visitors return annually as there is so much to be explored and seen.

Wonderful house for a great Christmas getway!

The house is very charming and a great size for 8 people. We had a fantastic Christmas break. The owner was extremely helpful with all queries before the stay and the house was very comfortable. Could not fault the stay at all!!

Charming, comfortable, peaceful.

Loved the time spent here, Flint House has everything you need, lots of olde worlde charm and a lovely pub and chippy ( though no gravy) nearby.

It is well equipped and once you have fathomed the workings of the boiler it is toasty, it’s a little old fashioned, it’s a bit like staying at your gran’s house, but the tv and WiFi are up to date and work well.

There are plenty of little steps to various different rooms on different levels it all seems a bit Narnian, but it’s all very comfy and peaceful, I really enjoyed my stay, thank you Rebecca.

Comfortable and relaxing stay in Norfolk

The House was welcoming and you were able to relax and not be afraid of enjoying it which with 4 children (including a 1 year old) was very useful. In a village location with pub next door and, at Xmas time, very prettily lit up. If you want a high tech modern house this is not for you but we found very comfortable. The owner was veryfriendly and helpful with local amenties.Would go there again

Spacious, well-equipped and very welcoming

Rebecca's property is located in the beautiful village of Mundford and from the front door you can see both a very good fish and chip shop and a lovely pub! We visited the house for a family member's birthday weekend and found it to be perfect for what we were after– great proximity (walkable) to Thetford Forest for long walks and only a short drive to Brandon Country Park.

The house is absolutely huge, compared to regular holiday cottages. There were 7 of us staying and it was so nice to have our own proper-bedrooms and plenty of space to relax, cook and eat. It was a chilly weekend but the house's heating was up to scratch and so the size of the house didn't leave us cold! Rebecca and family have left the house for guests with everything you could ever need, from cooking dishes and appliances, to games, books and DVDs.

Rebecca was most helpful in providing us with information about the village and the house in advance of our stay and very accommodating to our requests (we let off small fireworks at the top of the garden!). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house for a second, a really wonderful find!

Car: necessary

There is so much to do in Norfolk, with much of it on our doorstep! We have equipped the house with all the local tourist information leaflets and guides, which detail all of the local attractions.Our home provides the ideal base for touring East Anglia, the north Norfolk coast and historic houses such as Sandringham and Oxburgh Hall.

There are many manor houses within a short drive of the house, all which are well worth a visit such as Holkham Hall with its beautiful gardens and Lyndford Hall, just a short walk away from the house. Here you can enjoy a gentle walk around their lakes and arboretum or sample some of their fine dining and famous cream teas.

Thetford Forest is a 5 minute drive from the house where you can find endless public footpaths, all at varying difficulties and lengths. These walks are stunning and a large majority are accessible for the cycling enthusiast too. These paths are maintained by the Forestry Commission who go to great lengths to ensure they are kept accessible all year round.

The Norfolk Coastline is beautiful across the seasons. Many of the beaches are easily reached by foot from the many car parks available. Visit the famous 'Wells-next-the-sea', now known as Little Chelsea. This has a lovely wide sandy beach, backed by pine woods, colourful beach huts and a very good cafe. Youngsters (and those of us young at heart!),will love splashing around in The Run at low tide, at which time you can walk a mile or so out to its end. Or why not try your hand at Kitesurfing at Hunstanton or sample the gorgeous seafood at Cromer- their crabs are world famous! There is a great beach at Mundesley, which always offers some stunning sunsets.

There are so many towns and villages nearby to explore, many of which have weekly markets and farmers stalls. The nearest town of Swaffham hold their market every Saturday, a tradition which has been going since the 1500's. Bury St Edmunds is a unique and dazzling historic gem. An important market town with a richly fascinating heritage, the striking combination of medieval architecture, elegant Georgian squares and glorious Cathedral and Abbey gardens provide a distinctive visual charm. With prestigious shopping, an award-winning market and some superb restaurants, this is well worth a visit and only a 30 minute drive from the house.

If you are seeking a thrill, why not try the Go Ape course in the nearby High Lodge, based in Thetford Forest. Here you can experience 'tree-walking' at it's best or ride large Segway's throughout the forest in a race against time (and eachother!).

Banham zoo is a must for any animal lovers of all ages where you can see Snow Leopards, walk through the giraffe safari and come face to face with some stunning Sumatran Tigers, all in a wonderfully laid out, conservation Zoo. Or for the prehistoric, young explorers there is the Dinosaur Adventure Park where you can come face to face with a T-Rex. Bewilderwood is an enchanting, magical forest play area which has been specially built by gnomes and fairies, but do watch out for those goblins- They hide away in the trees!

The Bure Valley Railway is a 15 in minimum gauge heritage railway in Norfolk, within The Broads National Park. The railway runs from Wroxham to Aylsham and is Norfolk's longest railway of less than standard gauge. This makes for a wonderfully, relaxing way to see how we used to travel- our kids love this as do the grandparents.

There is plenty to see and do for all ages and interests and all of these adventures are easily accessed from the comfort of our home.
