The location of this apartment is incredible. You can open the large windows and look out onto the Notre Dame and the square below. It is within walking distance to several metros and tourist attractions. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to sites such as the Pantheon and the Louvre, and only a 5 minute walk from Saint Chapelle and the Prison where Marie Antionette was imprisoned. The only downside is the six flights of stairs to the top (which we were warned about before booking); however, even this added to the adventure of Paris. Also, the bathroom contained the toilet and shower in the same room (which is a luxury for American girls). David was easily accessible and very personable. He arranged transportation from the airport (which was worth every penny) and had snacks and a fully stocked espresso machine waiting, which we used every morning. At one point we had difficulties with the front door and he made a 45 minute drive to help us. If you want a magical Paris experience, we highly recommend David's apartment.
We stayed for 12 nights for a girls trip with my two daughters and my mom. I can not say enough good things about this fantastic place and David! It was the perfect location, literally in the center of it all. We loved being able to walk to the Latin Quarter and the Marais neighborhoods without taking the Metro, and it was quite nice to have so many options for food, drink, and shopping so close! To be able to walk just down the street to grab a crepe or famous Berthillon ice cream was a plus. We have been to Paris the last 3 years and stayed in different rentals in different areas, this by far, was our favorite. We knew ahead of time that there were 7 flights of stairs, but chose it based on the great reviews and location. I will say, its probably not advisable if anyone in your party might have any difficulty climbing stairs, but we managed and we are glad we did! David was prompt with any questions and offered his advice on places to try, he also left us many goodies and a bottle of wine to get our trip started off perfectly! What a nice touch, he goes out of his way to make sure you are comfortable and informed, showing you the ins and outs of the place. The place itself is as you see in pictures, a quaint apartment with everything you would need. My mom loved the pod coffee maker, it was great to have a washer/dryer (a little glitch that needed to be fixed, but David was right on it), and both of my daughters (ages 21 and 13) slept comfortably on the trundle bed. We enjoyed waking up to the bells of the Notre Dame every morning and going to sleep each night watching the entertainers whether it be fire tossing or dancers, we truly miss this and are already looking forward to planning our return. Fingers are crossed that this place is available, as it was a little slice of heaven and home away from home!
My family of 4 just spent six nights at this apartment and had a wonderful time. The location is quintessential Paris, adjacent to the Notre Dame. The entrance to the apartment is just across from where tourists queue to go up to the top of Notre Dame, so spectacular. Whenever we came home from the bustle of Paris streets it was so nice to be able to watch the action from our windows.
The apartment itself had everything we needed. It is one bedroom and the couch in the livingroom is a trundle with actual mattresses, so our boys each had a separate bed, much more comfy than a sleeper sofa. It was nice to have an pod-style espresso machine, a dishwasher (full size), microwave, and combo washer/dryer. We didn't cook (it's Paris!), but there is a stove (no oven). Plus the manager gave us some starter snacks, juice, and coffee milk. The apartment is not large, but much bigger than a hotel room and was just enough for our family.
The manager was responsive when we contacted him with the only issue we had (a clogged shower drain). He fixed it the same day while we were out.
A few things to be aware of. It is a sixth floor walk-up (American read 7th floor since 1st floor is second floor). There are 116 steps, so just be prepared for that and you'll be fine. Also the bells of the Notre Dame start ringing at 8am. The windows do a remarkable job of filtering the noise, but you will hear the bells so bring earplugs if needed (we used them). Finally, the living room has no curtains (bedroom does though). So during the summer it will be bright in the living room from very early until 10pm or so. My light sensitive son used his eye mask to block the light and was fine.
We had a fantastic time and loved being in this area of Paris.
This penthouse apartment across the street from Notre Dame cathedral puts you at the center of everything you want to see in Paris. Ile St. Louis, Shakespeare and Company, Hotel de Ville, Pompidou Center, the Left Bank, Sainte Chapelle are all just steps away. For sites further afield, there is a handy and well-used taxi stand just around the corner and a metro stop just across the river. And then there is Notre Dame - no matter how many times you've visited - the view from David's apartment allows you to feel like an intimate friend. You see it at all times of day and night, and get acquainted with architectural and sculptural details only pigeons (or drones) are equipped to see. Sending pictures of Notre Dame taken from David's penthouse home to friends produced awestruck one liners - even from the most jaded travelers.
During our week in Paris, we wanted to spend most of our time in St. Germain Des-Pres and Pantheon areas, which have blossomed with lots of great new restaurants, book stores, and quirky bars. David's penthouse allowed us to walk everywhere and explore the area at a leisurely pace. But the apartment is also within walking distance of most places of interest in Marais - great restaurants, Place des Vosges, and Bazar de l'Hotel de Ville department store.
Yes, the apartment is on the sixth floor and there is no lift. Your initial climb up the stairs with your luggage can't help but give you second thoughts. But - you only do that once when you arrive, and the stairs are actually pretty, with a manageable rise-over-run (not like walkups in NYC). And once you see the view, and begin to think of it as your own, you pretty much forget about the stairs.
David is a very welcoming, informative host. Everything in the apartment is easy to use and he has lots of resources to help you get oriented (including that important inaugural bottle of champagne). His TV has several English language news channels (by no means true in many French VRBOs).
We recommend this apartment highly, and already have friends planning trip to Paris just having seen our pictures of it.
David was waiting at the flat when we arrived and gave us detailed information for our stay. He left us very tasty "extras" which were greatly appreciated. The location was perfect and always easy to find if you knew where the Notre Dame Cathedral was located. The walk up was great exercise and not recommended for anyone with mobility or health issues. We would recommend this flat to anyone wanting the Parisian experience.
First of all, David is an amazing person to rent from. He is kind and goes above and beyond to be helpful. He greeted us upon our arrival, which was not at what we would consider a convenient time, with smiles and treats. Our girls, ages 10 and 13, were in love with the apartment from the first moment. During the whole week, David went out of his way to make sure our stay was pleasant.
The apartment is in the perfect location. It is walking distance to all the major Paris sites. We walked to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the Luxembourg Gardens, and to the most happening neighborhoods in Paris. We didn't need to take a taxi once.
The closest site is of course the cathedral of Notre Dame, which really is as close as shown in the pictures. The apartment is on the top floor of its building and it is at the height of the gargoyles and the beautiful and large stained glass windows. You can also look diagonally across at the square in front of Notre Dame for people watching, and on some nights we even saw fire tossing entertainers from the apartment windows. From the apartment you can hear the lovely bells of Notre-Dame, which make for a wonderful alarm clock when they begin their chiming around 8:00 in the morning. After we woke up in the morning, we frequently walked around the corner to Hure's, which has delicious bread, pastries, and fresh orange juice. Taking these back for a picnic in the apartment was a great way to start the day.
The combined washer and dryer in the apartment is also very convenient.
The only people I would not recommend this apartment for are those with mobility issues. For us, the climb up 6 flights of stairs at the end of the day was a great excuse to eat more delicious French food.
We highly recommend this apartment!
