A perfect holiday for all the family 😎

  • 5 of 5

An amazing place. It blew us away!! We spent 2 weeks in the cabin in the woods, and none of us wanted to leave. It's idyllically situated hidden away in the woods, next to the river.

Having the river so close was like having our own personal water park! Many days were spent simply playing in the river, swimming, canoeing, going down the gentle rapids on inflatables!! We went on a few walks and bike rides to explore the woods....there are some fantastic tracks for mountain biking on the door step!!

We went on a 3 day canoe down the River Aveyron which was spectacular.

We visited Najac, and went to the night market there, which was a wonderful experience. The town of Saint Antonin is well worth a visit also. However, we could've spent the entire 2 weeks without leaving the cabin and just exploring the woods, and we would've still had an amazing time.

We'd love to return, all though next time we promise to learn to speak French a little more fluently.

A big thank you to Joe and Angela for leaving the canoes 😀? and letting us stay in there wonderful cabin in the woods!!

Calme et tranquilité

  • 5 of 5

  • 4 of 5

Location: Averyron/Tarn

The area is one of outstanding beauty and significantly quieter than similar areas such as the Dordogne. There are steep wooded valleys and gorges with beautiful hill top villages and towns. The rivers are great for swimming and water sports and there are plenty of GR walking routes and cycle tracks.

Places to visit:

Najac: A “Beaux Village” with a medieval castle, cobbled streets and winding Main Street. (8km)

Cordes le Ciel: A beautiful hill top town looking out over the plains to Gaillac (20km)

St Anton de noble Val: A medieval market town on the banks of the Averyron, just before the famous gorges. (20km)

Villefranche de Rougerie: large medieval market town (20km)

Monesties: Ancient village (10km)

Gaillac: The town is at the centre of the Golden Triangle producing a range of delicious Gaillac wines. (30km)

Albi: Centre of administration for the Tarn and home to the museum of Toulouse Lautrec. Sight seeing and shopping. An amazing 13th century cathedral (30km)

Belcastle: One of the prettiest villages in France with an 11th century castle and bridge. (35km)

Activities

The local area and the wider area is a haven for outdoor activities:

Swimming: At the house and at many places along the rivers. There is a large pool complex and diving board at Najac and a pool at the local campsite.

Tennis: Free court with the house at St Andre de Najac 3Kms away. 8 courts at Najac.

Walking: From the house or routes are available from all tourist information.

Cycling: Hilly but rewarding, numerous routes are marked and maps are available from tourist information.

Rafting and Canoeing: there are 2 old canoes at the house or there is commercial rafting and canoeing from Najac or St Anton de Noble Val.

Rock Climbing: There are fixed ropes about 1km up river from the house.

Horse riding: There are several places around Najac.

Fishing: From the house

Sailing: Lake with boat hire 15 km from the house.

Cap Decourvez: Purpose built complex with skate boarding, down hill skiing, water skiing, toboggan run, waterpark and many more activities.

(30 mins drive…just north of Albi.

During the summer months there are many fetes and festivals held in the local villages and towns.

Getting There:

Ryanair have daily flights from Stanstead to Rodez (1hrs drive from the house)

Many different flights to Toulouse (1 ½ hrs from the house)

It is about 9hrs drive from the port of Calais.
