A RUSTIC TASTE OF MONTANA'S PAST:no-frills lodging in an historic bunkhouse

Ideal vacation lodging: a beautiful ranch setting, apart from the traditional tourist scene, in comfortable, relaxed surroundings. CHAPS & SPURS HISTORIC BUNKHOUSE is one of 4 unique accommodations we offer. All are in a private setting for guests looking for lodging with a personal touch. If your vacation is centered around exploring this unique area, you are within minutes of area activities and attractions. The East Entrance to Glacier Park is 15 minutes away, Many Glacier Valley is 20 minutes, Two Medicine Valley is an hour's scenic drive as is Waterton National Park in Canada. The Ranch is an ideal place to return to after a day of activity; to kick back, relax and plan your next day's adventure. If you prefer time to read, write, photograph or other more solitary pursuits, you will enjoy the space, privacy and inspiring natural ambience. All our vacation rentals offer the serenity, privacy and views that Paul Ranch Montana LLC is famous for.

Centrally located for a variety of destinations and pursuits, this rustic one-room bunkhouse is comfortable, and well-maintained. It is decorated with historic period furnishings, except for the beds (we want our guests to get a good night's sleep). For the budget minded traveler, our Chaps & Spurs Historic Bunkhouse will help you stretch your travel dollar. Sitting on the porch morning and evening is a favorite spot of the Ranch owner...feeling the fresh air, listening to the natural sounds, gazing at the mountains, watching the gold finches drink and bathe in the adjacent pond, and the butterflies flutter about in the peacefulness of the setting. In a sense, you'll truly be roughing it (just like the cowboys)...there's electricity and a brand new private washhouse with shower, sink and toilet. It's a rustic taste of Montana's past! Potable water is provided. The Bunkhouse is equipped with a microwave, a small fridge, a coffeemaker & coffee fixin's, paper plates, cups, plastic wear, linens, blankets, and towels. Daily service to your accommodations allows you to concentrate on your vacation, not housekeeping.

A covered porch off the front door offers mountain views of Glacier Park that are beyond belief and is a perfect place to dine, to start your day with morning coffee or to end your evening relaxing and viewing wildlife that inhabit the property. A large open field invites an evening stroll; equipment is on hand for outdoor games and activities. This is a plus for families traveling with children.

RANCH MONTANA PAUL LLC proudly announces it has been accepted as a Silver level GreenLeader into the new GreenLeaders™ program, which helps travelers plan greener trips by identifying environmentally-friendly accommodations across the U.S.

WILD HEART REFUGE, comprised of 155 acres, has been set aside on the Ranch as a wildlife refuge. The commitment of Paul Ranch Montana is to leave acreage undisturbed to support indigenous wildlife that live on, give birth on and migrate across the land.

The unique benefits of the Ranch include the wildlife that inhabit the property, the pair of red tailed hawks that take up residency every year, the awesome mountain vistas, the clean air, the clear night sky, the get-away-from-it-all setting. Hearing the morning and evening sounds from the wetlands conservation area that borders the property will connect you with nature and refresh your spirit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Myself and my two boys thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay in your small cabin last weekend. Mike was very friendly, helpful, and really enjoys his job working for you. He made us feel oh so special. His wife also made us some taco won tongs. (: yum yum.

I hope I can make the trip from Missouri back to Glacier NP in the near future and stay in this same cabin. If there was a rocking chair on the front porch, I don't know if I would have ever left. Thank you. very much.

Rustic western charm

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the bunkhouse for a few days while we got ready for a backpacking trip in Glacier National Park. The house is close to Babb, the border with Canada and the Many Glacier area. We didn't do any cooking in the bunkhouse but it was all set with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and some dishes. There is no running water in the bunkhouse itself but the wash house is just a few steps away and very spacious and clean. The hosts were cordial and provided everything we needed. The cell service was actually better than what we have at home and the wifi was robust. I was nice to relax on the porch and read during the sunny afternoons. The bunkhouse was perfect for the two of us and I'd stay here again whenever we might be in the area.

Adorable and spacious bunkhouse - loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the bunkhouse! It was clean, spacious, and had a full-size fridge (we were expecting a mini). The bath house was really nice, complete with a shower for after a day of hiking. Both of our hikes in the area started near Many Glacier, and the location was the perfect spot for that area. Gene and Terry were so friendly. We would not hesitate to recommend the bunkhouse!

Not what expected for the money paid

  • 3 of 5

Disclaimer: I should have read more in depth about exactly what this rental had to offer... was surprised to find upon arrival no kitchen space, sink or running water in cabin, must go to bathroom vessel sink. Cabin was on a slant and very dated, but clean. Has twin bunks and twin bed. Only half of grill worked, no electric skillet. All this aside, the location was super close to many glacier and offered a kind of 'home on the range' feel. Property owners very nice and even baked us cookies on arrival! Bath house very clean and updated. Have paid same amount of money in east glacier and west glacier for much nicer cabins. Overall, it depends on what you are looking for, just be sure to know what to expect.

Perfect spot near Glacier NP!

  • 5 of 5

The ranch was the perfect setting for our time at Glacier National Park. The area was quiet and gave us a real feel of being in Montana. It was close enough to restaurants/gas stations and very convenient to the entrance of Glacier NP on the east side. The bunkhouse was clean and provided a warm shower and cozy bed after long days of hiking. A gem in northern Montana!

Peaceful Visit

  • 5 of 5

This was the second year my wife and our Yorkie Peanut visited the Ranch and stayed in the Bunkhouse. The accommodations were excellent for our needs. Paul Ranch is a great location for visiting the Northeast side of Glacier. We enjoyed the humming birds, goldfinches, and robins feeding and taking baths in the rock pool just outside the bunkhouse.

The alpacas and llama are fun to see. We also saw a large brood of baby ducks in the wetland pond near the gravel road leading to the highway. Our stay ended with an escort of orange butterflies flying beside us on our way out.

We used the highway past Duck Lake to travel and shop in Browning. This road saved us time.

Gene and Terry again made our visit go well with their wonderful hospitality and taking care of our needs. We plan to visit again.

Greg, Betty, and Peanut
