Overview

About the property

Occupancy 5, Bedrooms 3, Bathroom 1

Potters Hey Lodge is a hidden gem near the village of Disley. The property is situated in a semi rural, private and peaceful location, offering stunning panoramic views over the countryside. It is also just a 10-15 minute walk or 3-5 minute bus journey to Disleys pubs, shops and restaurants. This property is great for walkers with the start of many walking routes on its doorstep, including a route that takes you straight into National Trust Lyme Park to experience some breathtaking views. Kinder Scout is also another popular walking route in the area amongst many more Peak District towns and villages including Buxton, Eyam, Bakewell, Castleton and Edale are all just around a 30-40 minute car journey away. You can also leave your car at the Lodge and walk just 3-5 minutes to Newtown train station which offers a direct service to Manchester, Buxton, Disley etc. This is a perfect base to explore the surrounding areas or to just relax in front of the wood burning stove. Guests can enjoy full access to the paddock/field/large parking area, however please note one of the owners will use the Lodge parking area, whilst respecting our guests privacy. Our visitors (family and friends)will be asked to use our second drive/other parking area(away from the Lodge)so guests are not disturbed.

We welcome dogs with open arms, we just ask that they stay in the lounge/kitchen area.

Why The Owner/Property Manager chose Disley

It's got the best of both worlds as it semi rural, open views but not in the middle of nowhere where you have to drive out 5 miles to the nearest shop when you run out of milk.

Guest can enjoy full access to the field/paddock/large parking area, however please note one of the owners will use the Lodge parking area, whilst respecting the guests privacy. Our visitors (family and friends) will be asked to use our second drive/other parking area (away from the Lodge) so guests are not disturbed.

What makes this bungalow unique

You don't need a car to explore the area as public transport is only a few minutes walk away

Superb

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend at the lodge, which is very well appointed indeed. It was the little things which impressed the most, like plenty of toilet rolls, a few dishwasher tabs, a loaf and some milk. It is certainly the best accommodation we have encountered in the UK and we hope to return in the near future. There was plenty to keep our 2yo occupied like peppa pig toys, duplo and disney dvds. The wifi was fast even with two ipads and three smart phone running on it. The heating controls were easy to operate and my father is still telling anyone who will listen about the shower. Bev was very welcoming, a wonderful host who was happy to post an item we stupidly left behind

Great location for access to the Peaks with a beautiful outlook

  • 4 of 5

We were really welcomed by Bev who was attentive and accommodating, even allowing us to stay on before our flight, which was so kind.

The Lodge is well resourced and there are basics waiting in the fridge when you arrive. Bev brought around loungers as the weather was so beautiful and we had a BBQ in the lovely outside space.

We enjoyed walking from the lodge to Whaley Bridge and took the car to Mam Tor.

The area is stunning and this Lodge is in a great location to explore it and we hope to come again!

Owner's Response: Hi Janet Thank you for your lovely comments, we are glad you enjoyed your stay, however, is there anything that we need to be aware of? as I have just spotted the one star rating which doesn't reflect in your comments of the Lodge, also you said you would like to come back for another holiday, any feedback would be much appreciated. Warm Regards Bev

A great place to stay for the new year. When the owner says dog friendly.... it really is. Great locality for walking or small towns.

We hope to return in the summer .

We have our own field/woodland to walk in.

At the top of the field there are beautiful views and there is public right of way. From here you can walk into Lyme park, only having to cross one road in higher Disley.

If you prefer to cycle there are plenty of trails and routes in the Peak District and Cheshire. Middlewood way is only 10 min ride from the Lodge, we have a shed to lock up your bikes and also electric gates to make it more secure.

10 minutes drive away is the beautiful village of Hayfield. Walks include the kinder reservoir, the white lady, Peter nook woodland, kinder downfall and the sett valley trail. Most famous is the trespass trail, which starts from the New Mills heritage centre which is a 15 min walk from the lodge. For more information go to www.kindertrespass.com.

Buxton is a 25 min drive. You can catch the train from Newtown or the 199 bus at the end of our drive. In Buxton you can visit the Pavilion gardens, Historic Winter Gardens, Opera house and there are great places to eat and drink. There is also a good Tourist Information Centre, fairs and markets throughout the year.

A few miles on you have the delightful Chatsworth House, animal farmyard & Adventure playground for the little ones.

Glossop is 9 miles away and is a perfect location for exploring the Dark Peak, whether it's a vigorous hike across the rugged moorland of Bleaklow or Black hill or a family picnic beside the reservoirs of the Longdendale Valley.

What about a day out in Matlock Bath which is just 1 hours drive away. Here you have The Great Masson Cavern, Rutland, Tavern Cavern and don't forget the Hights of Abraham cable cars!

Closer to home we have the viberant town of Macclesfield, great for shopping, pubs and cafes. It is also home to West Park Museum and Heritage Centre on Roe Street, this is also the street that has the best wet fish shop in the whole of the north west.

Why not try Stockport with its Hat Museum and World war 2 shelters. You could catch the train to Manchester to visit the Sealife centre at Trafford Park or visit the home of Manchester United and Manchester City, it's also the home of the Lowery and war Museum.
