Just a 10-minute walk through National Trust meadows to the picturesque beach and the spectacular Jurassic coastal footpaths to the pretty fishing village of Beer and Seaton in one direction and to Sidmouth in the other. In the village there is the Old Bakery Tea Rooms, Mill, museum, working forge and two traditional inns 'The Masons Arms' opposite, a little further to 'The Fountain Head', both serving good food and local brews.

The popular coastal town of Sidmouth with Esplanade and a splendid variety of shops, cafes, restaurants, cinema, theatre, golf course and indoor swimming pool is a 10-minute drive. In the other direction Lyme Regis famous for fossil hunting is only a 15-minute drive.

Not the standard we would have expected for the price.

Cottage clean but felt damp and unaired when we arrived. Despite opening windows as much as possible still felt damp when we left and we were unable to get washed clothes dry enough to wear. One broken light. Had to descale shower head to get a decent shower. Kitchen cupboards very untidy inside. Towels supplied not nice.

Beautiful unspoilt part of the world!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is in a lovely location. Branscombe village itself is very quiet- no shops, only 2 pubs and a bakery/tearoom opposite the forge.

The beach (just a 10 minute walk away) is beautiful-even more so on a sunny day.

The cottage was clean and tidy-had everything you need-apart from internet/wifi which I hadn’t realised until we arrived. (However, if needed you can access this from the pub just across the road.)

Accommodation is adequate, but in my opinion, in need of some TLC. A couple of points I feel need mentioning are:

The strong smell of damp/mustiness which is very noticeable as soon as you open the front door.

The midges who bombard the place. There is a stream right opposite so that could be the reason they’ve settled there. Because we were plagued by them, we were unable to have the door and windows open so therefore the cottage couldn’t be aired properly consequently the damp smell was ever present.

Outstanding and our best break ever!

  • 5 of 5

Our first time booking a cottage and it was superb. The Cottage and its location is an idyll from where we relaxed or explored surrounding areas including South Devon and Dorset too. The Cottage is beautifully presented and the attention to detail in the decor and accessories is faultless. If I do eventually write my book this would be my choice to completely chill and unwind. The description of the property is spot on and for us it was the highlight of what was an unforgettable experience in a stunning location!

A week in Branscombe was too short to enjoy the surroundings in depth.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. Branscombe is a long and very interesting village. Possibilities for walking for all degrees of fitness. We were glad not to have been in Branscombe during the high-season as parking in October was difficult enough.

The 2 pubs we can recommend for Real Ale and good food.

fantastic little cwtch

Lovely gem of a cottage that had all we needed in order to have a comfortable and resting break away. Plenty of crockery etc though we hardly cooked and a good water pressure shower and comfortable mattress. Branscombe is a pretty village with lots of walks to enjoy. The pub opposite had a lovely warm comfortable atmosphere and good food and the beach no more than 10 minutes walk away made it a great central village location. Once we parked up we didn't use the car again and even took the local bus to Beer 20 mins away. They allow dogs onboard so we walked back. Would definitely visit the cottage again.
