About Sue Mahoney

The cottage is adjoining our property and we have lived here for 19 years. Chris is a Northumbrian, but I am not. However I feel like Northumberland is my true home.

We both enjoy the country way of life and take an active part in village life. We love to walk and explore Northumberland, so can offer extra local information and hidden gems.

We like to listen to live music and there is a lot in this area, mainly traditional. Every year there is the Rothbury Music festival (June) and Alnwick International Muisc Festival (July)

Our love of food holds no bounds and can recommend a lot of places in the area.

Sue Mahoney purchased this bungalow in 1997

Why Sue Mahoney chose Longframlington

There is everything you need for a relaxing holiday. A lot of our guest comment on that by the end of the week they are so relaxed that time has no meaning.

What makes this bungalow unique

The hill we look onto is called Mount Pleasant, and to me that sums up living here. I think we have the best of both worlds. We are surrounded by lovely countryside and on the main A697, so can so drive anywhere. We have unpolluted skies and often have a starry nights, and have seen the Aurora Borealis, sitting in the garden.

A very well equipped little cottage for two.

Has everything you will need for a self-catering holiday.

Lovely views and interesting places to visit all quite close to the cottage.

Comfortable, cosy, well equipped apartment in an excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

Besom Barn Cottage is conveniently located for visits to many of the attractions in Northumberland. The cottage is comfortable, cosy and well equipped. It is also very easy to find, and surrounded by wonderful countryside. My wife and I did not experience any of the minor inconveniences noted in some of the other reviews. Sue is a very welcoming and friendly host, and the supplies provided were a nice touch - thanks Sue. Longframlington has sufficient facilities (a couple of pubs, corner shop, etc.) for basic food requirements. There are also visits each week from fish and chip and pizza take-away vans. We would thoroughly recommend Besom Barn Cottage for any couple looking for a comfortable stay in Northumberland in lovely surroundings in a convenient location.

Great accommodation - good location

  • 5 of 5

Very cosy cottage, tidy and clean.

Great located to do trips to Scotland, Newcastle and Hadrian's Wall.

Sue was very nice and friendly.

Unfortunately we have been there when all the attractions around (e.g. English Heritage) had been closed - but that means we have to come back :)

Ashington, Northumberland

A lovely little cottage that would benefit from some improvements

  • 3 of 5

This is a very cute little cottage but on a cold Christmas Eve it would have been nice to have had a shower that was more than lukewarm. We were told that the log burner was temperamental which was disappointing as it burned well for a while then went out - several times! Someone on Trip Advisor had previously complained about the sofa which was very uncomfortable. There was also a smell of 'wet dog' which became much worse when I used the vacuum cleaner. Despite the freezing wind I had to open windows to try to freshen the place up.

This stay was part of a Christmas present and sadly was a bit of a letdown.
