This is a lovely home overlooking the bay with lots of space both inside and out. You can enjoy the view from the living area or your bedroom inside, or just step outside the door for a breath of fresh air. Lots of privacy and space. Everything you need from grilling to kayaking. Fishing off the dock is also an option, swimming, shelling or sunbathing on the beach is only a couple minutes away.
Thank you Mary Lou and Bob for being so hospitable every time we stay at Blue Pearl. We truly love your place! After being here for just 2 days it feels like we've been here a week. We're so relaxed! Of course, we never want to leave. In addition to your beautiful home and private dock, the island itself is amazing with having the choice to go fishing or go to the beach. We always choose the fishing, but then mosey our way to a sandbar to relax by mid-afternoon. The first snook I caught we thought was big, until we watched our son catch a 42" snook. That was priceless! The awesome fight my husband had with a 33" cobia before it jumped out of the boat was spectacular. Thank goodness I got pics! People will now believe this fishing story :). We can't tell you how many snapper we have caught, cleaned (on your dock fillet table), and froze for many fish fries to come. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and giving us the opportunity to have so many adventures on the water. The fishing stories that will be told for years, along with pictures, are memories for a lifetime. We'll definitely be back. See you soon! Kandi, Mike & Cole
We rent vacation places often and have wonderful experiences at most of the places we stay. However, rarely does a rental live up to our expectations in almost every respect. Blue Pearl is an exception. The description provided by Mary Lou could not be better. She helped us in the planning stages by patiently and kindly answering every annoying question we asked and offered helpful hints even when we did not ask. The house itself is well stocked and immaculate. The furnishings are comfortable and perfectly maintained and the house easily sleeps six comfortably as promised. Bedding and linens are great as represented and the kitchen has all the furnishings and cookware you will need. We skipped the television most days but it was available and the internet and phone service were good. The island itself is beautiful and with our rented center console from Gasparilla Marina we were set for adventures. We parked our car at Eldred's and bought bait there daily - a thirty minute round trip outing. We paddled the kayaks from the private dock to the park and fished the bay side all around the island. Swimming in the beautiful clear ocean was a short walk and we even caught snook from the shore on the ocean side. Did I mention the fishing was awesome? We caught Jack, sea trout, snook and mangrove snapper in abundance - and we are not that good. Redfish were a little tougher on this trip but we did not care. We did rent a golf cart for the week. I would pass next time and rent for one day or as needed. There isn't much to see or do on the island other than enjoy the natural beauty and the gorgeous water, sunsets and sunrises. One trip around the island in the cart was enough. It did come in handy taking my mom to the beach but for those who can walk a couple of hundred yards or less it is not needed. Everyone we met was friendly. The few times we ventured out to eat off the island , we did not drive more than a few miles to find a decent beach restaurant. However, we had more fun cooking at the house and watching the sunset after a nice dinner. Looking for South Beach - you know where to find it. Looking for old Florida on a beautiful island close to the mainland and the Pearl will be your paradise.
A pearl is defined as" a precious thing - the finest example of something."
After spending almost a full month at The Blue Pearl, we have decided that this is the perfect description
for this rental property. One week was spent with three couples, three weeks, with our family of five. With three bedrooms and three baths, the physical set up was perfect. The sitting area was spacious and the fully stocked kitchen was roomy enough to prepare intricate meals and pouring great wines! The washer/dryer, every imaginable supply for caring for the house, towels, nice quality bedding, cooking spices, and outdoor 'play' items, such as bikes, kayaks, hammock, and beach chairs - you really only need to bring clothes, food, beverages and books to while away your hours on the island.
Each day began with sitting on one of the two sprawling decks overlooking the bay, welcoming the sunrise. From there you could wander down to the dock to say hello to the dolphins, pelicans, egrets, eagles, ospreys, and the ever present "happy' fish (mullets). The beach was only a three minute walk and that opened up more opportunities to commune with nature. Of course, you could find your spot and just sit and soak up the sun and breeze OR you could walk or run the miles of beach, search for shells and shark's teeth, and play sand games. After dinner on the deck, the beach will call again for sunset. Bring a blanket and watch the colors in the sky change from blue, to yellow, orange, pinks and purples. So peaceful...
With a private dock, we were able to bring our own boat. We spent lots of time exploring the waterways, nearby islands, and several restaurants. The kayaks also offered access to the bay and Don Pedro Island so a boat is not a necessity. There is a water taxi to transport you to and from the mainland. We rented a slip for the boat at the marina, which included parking, so access to the mainland was quite simple.
The owners, Mary Lou and Bob, were as friendly as could be and even picked up a few forgotten items for us at the grocery store. A simple, yet very appreciative, gesture.
The Blue Pearl was all we hoped and more - "the finest example of something".
We would recommend this property for all who want to explore the simple pleasures of Little Gasparilla Island and the waters beyond...
I've rented lots of places and usually my expectations don't always match up with the place. This place was more than I could have hoped for. First the house--perfectly located on the quiet Bay Side with incredible views out both upper bedrooms and lower deck. Clean and providing anything and everything you would need for cooking, beach jaunts (beach chairs), kayaking (3 kayaks), bicycling (3 bikes), bbqing (gas bbq), outdoor shower, luxurious towels and bedding. The location--I loved the Bay side for its sunsets and birds, watching dolphins right out in front of the dock, kayaking down the bay to San Pedro State Park, then making myself a nice rum and tonic and walking over to the Ocean side (a short 3 minute walk) for the gorgeous sunsets and walk on the endless stretch of beach. The owner, Marylou, happened to be on the island when we were there and she really went the extra mile for us, making us feel welcome, giving us a tour of the island, and just being there for help with any little questions here and there. The island is truly a unique place and not for those who want restaurants, stores, lots of night life. But if you want to unplug, totally relax, love water and sun...this is the place for you. I think I would opt to spend the money and rent a small boat if I were going back, so I would have the option to explore some other islands nearby or go back to the marina for food shopping because the water taxi is $20.00 each way for 2 people. We made the mistake of going off island one day to just go to a few towns, and ended up pining for our quiet little place on the island after being in traffic. There's a wonderful fish market near the marina where we got really fresh fish and great key lime pie. I can't wait to go back there and do more exploring. Thanks Marylou for making this one of the best vacations I've ever had.
My husband and I had the joy of staying in this beautiful, comfortable home for 2 weeks during our annual "escape from Minnesota winter" and we loved every minute of it. We had never booked with VRBO before and were apprehensive. We asked many, many questions and they were all answered promptly and with patience! Mary Lou, the owner, has thought of everything one may need, from spices/herbs in the kitchen to band-aids in the bathroom. We watched the sunrise every morning from our bedroom and the sunset every evening was a short walk to the beach. We are avid kayakers and enjoyed exploring Little Gasparilla Island and other small islands using the provided kayaks. We enjoy wildlife and were able to watch dolphins in the bay, a resident tortoise, osprey feeding their babies, pelicans etc. One day, a fairly intense storm blew through (with tornado warnings) and May Lou checked in with us to make sure we were OK. I can honestly say that we can find nothing negative to say about the home. It was everything advertised and more. We look forward to staying at the Blue Pearl for years to come!
Bird watching, dolphin and manatee visits, great fishing off the dock, kayak and paddle board dream location. 3 minute stroll to the Gulf.
