Lovely gite!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this gite for 4 weeks in May & received a very competitive rate from the owner. The gite is down a quiet country lane & although there are a couple of neighbours it was really quiet. It is close to St George du Vievre which is a pretty village with a good bakery which is open on Sunday morning for fresh bread & cakes. The gite was lovely & clean & had everything you could possible want in the way of kitchen equipment. There was a good sized cooker & fridge freezer plus a microwave & kettle which you don't always get as we have found to our cost, having in the past to use the travel kettle to boil water for tea! There were also lots of games, children's books (in French) & toys in the twin bedded room plus a football machine upstairs. There is a lovely garden & two bbqs & garden furniture in the garage. There is a covered space where you can hang your washing if raining, as it was for us the first week & a very efficient washing machine. There is also a dishwasher which we didn't use as there was always plenty of hot water. If you want to use it take salt & rinse aid with you. There was plenty of cleaning materials provided if you want to clean yourself. The bathroom is downstairs with only a shower but this was very efficient with good pressure. The toilet is separate but also downstairs which was a bit awkward if you needed it in the middle of the night as the stairs to the bedrooms are quite steep. There are 2 good sized bedrooms upstairs with a double & 2 single beds & also a very large landing between the 2 rooms which had a sofa bed in & could be used for sleeping. The large sofa in the living room is also a sofa bed. The double bed was extremely comfy. This was a lovely homely comfortable gite. The one downside was that the tv signal was terrible & the picture kept going. The owner has advised me she will be dealing with this in the future. There was a good dvd player which we used a lot as we took a good supply of dvds to watch. The Leclerc supermarket in Bernay is the biggest & best one locally & just out of Bernay is a good Lidl. Bernay is a lovely town full of timbered buildings & a nice park by the library. We also loved Honfleur where you can sit by the port & this also has a lovely park. Pont Audemer is also very pretty. We don't eat out a lot so can't really recommend anywhere but McDonalds has free wifi & there are plenty around! We would thoroughly recommend this gite. The owner is very accommodating & speaks good English.

séjour agréable

  • 4 of 5

Super *****

  • 5 of 5

***** plus!!!!

Less than 2 hours from Paris, 13 kms from highway A13, the cottage is very easy to access to. It is only 30 minutes from Le Havre, and 8 kms from the pretty town of Pont Audemer, the locally so-called "Venise of the North"

At only 3 kms from the house, you will find food shops, a swimming-pool open in July and August, a horse-riding school, tennis courts. 12 kms away, the gorgeous tiny village of Bec-Helluin. You will also be seduced by the provincial atmosphere of Pont Audemer, its waterways, its markets, its summer festival. From there you may choose to explore some remarkable sights, such as the Natura 2000 approved site of Marais Vernier, and to drive on to Honfleur or another famous seaside resort. Or you may drive west to nearby Pays d'Auge (only a few kilometres away)and visit its fine terroir. Or you may prefer relax fishing, cycling or visiting one of Normandy's many cultural places of interest.
