This wonderful vacation home is front-line Mediterranean, with a spectacular panoramic view of the sea, and miles of dramatic mountainous coastline. Totally renovated by its architect/owner, this spacious 3rd floor penthouse is almost twice the size of any other apartment in the Tuhillo building (180 square metres), with 2 separate lounge areas (both sea-facing), a large modern, top quality kitchen complete with granite countertops, 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a front terrace directly overlooking the pool and the sea, as well as a huge (80 square metre)private roof terrace. Air Conditioning throughout. The entire facility is furnished as a home for the architect's family, rather than a commercial holiday rental unit. Looking out over Nerja's popular Burriana Beach, it's just a 6 minute walk to the main town square. Due to the special nature of this facility, rental groups normally limited to 7 people. LOCAL POINTS OF INTEREST:: The Nerja Caves (Spain's 2nd most visited tourist site) are the town's most internationally-known attraction, but the location also caters to other interests. Wander the typical streets & shops, browse the Tuesday street market, learn Spanish at a local language school, time your stay for colourful local fiestas, or visit the Moorish fortifications at nearby Almunecar & Salobrena. Day trips to Moorish 'white villages' or jeep adventure tours into the national park in the Alpuharras region are readily available. Granada's famed Alhambra palace is a scenic 90 minute drive away. For the kids: Sea Life, the Selwo Dolphin show & Tivoli World, all at a drivable distance in Benalmadena; the water slide park at Velez Malaga, and even a crocodile farm. For longer trips, Gibralter, Morocco, Cordoba and Seville (260 km) are all within a rental car's reach, or by weekly local bus tour. (Tour bus pick-up is just a block from the apartment.) Skiing in the Sierra Nevadas Dec-April, less than 2hours away.

FOR THE ACTIVE VACATIONER:: The beach offers a variety of activities, but you can also head inland. Rent a mountain bike, a motor scooter. The area is well known for its walking paths in the mountains surrounding the town.(Published guide books available locally.) Tired yet? Time to wind down over wine and an evening meal at any of a number of great restaurants, both at the beach and in town.

FOR THE NOT-SO-ACTIVE VACATIONER:: Pick yourself a book off one of the shelves and settle into a chair on the front terrace or one of our sun loungers on the private roof deck or, better yet, poolside in the communal garden overlooking the beach. There are worse ways to pass a week!

About Nora Tory-Pratt or Tim Tory

We are a Canadian couple with a passion for living in Andalucia. Tim is a retired architect and Nora is a documentary producer. Our Nerja penthouse has been an adventure for the entire family. Our 2 boys split their education between Canadian schools and schools in the Nerja area and ended up being far more fluent in Spanish than their parents. What we love about Nerja is that the Andalucian town, while geared for vacationers, remains relatively intact, a welcome relief from the holiday high rise towers along the coast. And after all these years, our apartment's panoramic terrace over the Mediterranean still takes our breath away.

Why Nora Tory-Pratt or Tim Tory chose Nerja

Tim toured up and down the Costa del Sol coast from Valencia past Marbella to Estepona over many years of visits back in the 1980s. He finally found this special place in a pretty little coastal town where a car is an option but by no means a necessity. And where the local butcher recognizes you when you arrive to buy your meat. Our kids love the hiking in the surrounding countryside. The proximity of the beach. And the fact that in winter, you can be up on the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevadas in less than 2 hours. As parents, we love the spaciousness of the place that offers any family group, both personal breathing room and a variety of wonderful places to gather in.

What makes this apartment unique

Make no mistake. This is a family home, not a holiday retreat. Clients frequently comment that the spaces are generous beyond what the photographs suggest.

And that the apartment "far exceeds their expectations."

THE PENTHOUSE FACILITY: The apartment is located in a quiet residential part of Nerja, just a 5 minute walk to the main town square and restaurant district. Front terrace equipped with table & chairs. Roof deck furnished with laundry drying area, sun loungers, and dining table for eating under the stars. A supply of books, audio tapes, & some CDs available for your enjoyment.Amenities for children include children's games, toys, and high chair. Kitchen fully equipped, fitted with kettle, coffeemaker, blender, toaster. Iron/ironing board, ceiling fans in all bedrooms, standing fans in lounges, heaters in winter. Lush plants throughout the interior. Sea facing rooms are wall to wall glass. The communal pool is open year round & the surrounding communal gardens sit on a cliff overlooking the beach and the Mediterranean. Communal sunbeds are available for general use beside the pool. No lift. Clients must be able to use stair access. A private garage is available for parking upon request.

Fantastic spacious apartment with great views

We were a party of seven (age range 12 to 70's), the apartment was fantastic and so spacious and It must have one of the best veiws in Nerja! It is also in my opinion perfectly placed as it is roughly the same distance to walk to either the older part of town or the main beach area, both have great restarants. Nerja has some fabulous places to eat and we always had great food. There is plenty of watersports from pedalos to para-sailing. The guys in our group went for a quad bike tour one morning and really enjoyed it. The Nerja caves are worth a visit (best to book in advance) and are just a bus ride away. Tim and Nora organised everything very efficiently and all went perfectly. Thank you so much.

What can I say? This was a tremendous experience for my family. (6 of us). The views were unbelievable, the appartment stunning. It was clean, well laid out and the hosts even provided a brand new barbecue! Best location in Nerja (we have been there over 10 times). We have already booked for 2013 and cant wait.

Over the Top!

We've been to many villas/penthouses that make promises that cause you to slump in dissapointment when you walk in. That was not the case at Tuhilo in Nerja! Our hearts soared as we ran from room to room to see how spacious,well apppointed and clean this property is. You could spend your entire stay on the balcony and still feel you've had a holiday. Stunning, simply stunning! this quaint seaside town is delightful. What you should know: #1: wear comfie shoes for hiking this hilly town; #2: long way down to this beach not bad but the trek back is difficult in the heat. Bring water but be sure to go to the all you can eat paella at Ayo Beach Restauarant ; #3: go to the little shop on the corner if you like British imported food-its' a life saver if you want to eat in; #4: go to Joye Pub Internet Cafe, up the street as it is a great meeting place to bump into people form all over the world; and last but not least do find out about having a night out in Almunecar at Barbacoa y Flamenco, for the greatest, most authentic Spanish bbq and flamenco dancing you'll ever see. Go to for details. Bring a video/camera and enjoy! Thank you Tim and Nora for a fantastic holiday. Your setting is breathtaking beautiful, the town is precious and the people are wonderful. That mixed with perfect weather made for the highlight of our 5 week holiday. You'll always be one of our fondest memories. Many thanks for suprassing our expectations! Holiday paradise

We stayed in December 2009, leaving behind a very cold and bleak England. We had a perfect week in glorious warm sunshine. The apartment and facilities are excellent. The beach and town a short walk away. The most memorable thing of the whole week, was never failing to be stunned by the views over the Mediteranean sea from the apartment. Simply beautiful..We've booked ot go back again in May!

I stayed at this apartment in Nerja with 3 girlfreinds inMay 2008We were delighted with the sizeBedroomsare private with 2bedrooms to one bath.#1 feature is the rooftop terrace facing the sea.Apt is withinwalking distance to the beautiful Burrianna Beach where once you travel downthe huge hill you can stay and enjoy all day long. There are clean,supervised beachchair areas,showerspublic washrooms and plenty fo eat and drink.Try the Paella at orange restaurant at far end of beach The only negative is this is definitelynot aplace to stay if you are physically handicapped .Lots of stairsCanadian ladiesx4

Nerja has some of Andalucia's finest beaches, and is well situated for trips to Granada, Gibraltar,Morroco or the scenic White Villages. Despite its popularity, this typical Andalusian town of 18,000 remains intact.Fishermen still peddle fish on the street corner. Down the coast the ruins of a 14th century Moorish castle. Cradled by coastal mountains rising up from the sea, it's a far cry from high-rise development elsewhere on the coast. While the town has become increasingly sophisticated in its retail shops, El Ingenio, a major shopping centre (including a multi cine) is a short 30 km drive away along the Malaga highway. Just 45 minutes direct to Malaga Airport via a major expressway.
