In the heart of the Loire Valley (Unesco world heritage site) and a short 15 km from Tours, Le mill du Breuil is just stone’s throw from the main royal chateaux such as Villandry or Azay-le-Rideau. This mill is exceptionally located in the middle of the Indre river, in a protected and enchanting environment. Recently refurbished, it makes for an utterly charming, quiet and comfortable retreat. You will fall under its spell!
On site, you can fish, canoe or boat, sunbathe at the pool or opt for a jog or a walk in the park (120 private acres) with old trees, or walk to the municipal tennis.
Lovely setting actually on the river! Two boats provided which were fun to paddle in both directions on the river. Nice pool, and table tennis, though a little walk from the mill. Inside was fine, with everything we needed. Beware of very steep stairs, but not a problem for us. Located amongst more chateaux than you can possibly manage to visit! Also walking distance of the little village with a couple of nice restaurants. Met Anne on the last day who was really friendly.
P.S. Anne, really you should create a small balcony at the back overhanging the water, where there is already a wooden platform, to catch the afternoon/evening sun - that would make the place absolutely stunning!
We had an amazing week in the Mill du Breuil. Anne, the owner, who lives in the chateau, was lovely and really welcoming. Our two boys aged 13 and 11 loved the pool and also being able to get out on the river every day. We had our own stand up paddle boards, but there was also a rowing boat and kayak that could be borrowed.
The wildlife on the river was wonderful - cranes, otters, kingfishers etc - plus deer in the fields and we even saw some sort of eagle in the woods! The location is beautiful, but not far from civilisation. The swimming pool was great and the kids appreciated the 'ping pong' room too!
No wifi or TV, and whilst we didn't miss the TV, wifi would have been helpful just to get weather reports. Places worth visiting included Chinon (Thursday is market day) and Azay le Rideau is a lovely little town with a beautiful chateau. We also did the park and ride into Tours which cost just 3 Euros total for the 4 of us. Parc de la Recreation was good but probably better for younger children, though going after 4pm we only paid 4 Euro each.
We would definitely go back again! Worth every penny. Thank you Anne!
We loved our stay in the moulin. We enjoyed the hospitality we have experienced. Very Private and quiet place with a lot of nature en water arround it. There is a photobook off the restauration off the properties its a lot off work but the restoration is very well done. No tv and Wifi but we didn't miss it. A very big sleeping room and a full equipped kitchen. The only thing we missed was a bigger couch to sit on in the living room. It is not suitable for very small children because of all the water.
We look forward to come back.
We stayed at the Moulin for one week and had a fantastic time. The river setting is beautiful and the mill has been renovated with great care, providing a unique and memorable holiday location. Anne the proprietor was very welcoming and made sure everything was in order. The shared pool and gardens are great resources and it was great fun to cycle around the estate. Monts has good restaurants and services and nearby Tours is lively and interesting. A fantastic location for exploring the Val de Loire and its many chateaux. Highly recommended!
