This is a secluded mountainside retreat. Perfect for a getaway for two and room enough for 5 it is located on nine private acres that sit just above the White River. It is only minutes from Killington, Okemo, Sugarbush and Pico. With Killington being only 14 miles away… it’s a skier’s delight!
The Chalet offers a fully equipped custom built kitchen, a gas powered VT Castings stove, 1 full bathroom, flat screen satellite TV in the living room, and 2 sleeping areas: 1 bedroom with a full size bed, and a private sleeping loft with a king size bed, plus the love seat in the living room pulls out to a twin size bed.
At the Chalet there are sleds for the two great sledding runs. Snow shoes are available also. Jump on your snow mobiles from the driveway and head out for a ride through the scenic mountain trails. If you’re a cross country ski lover you will enjoy the meadow trails nearby.
As breathtaking this area is in the winter, the spring, summer, and fall will capture a place in your heart. The babbling brook that runs through the property brings beautiful music to the bountiful lush green canopy of this part of the Green Mountains. Swimming, fishing, tubing, and walking along the White River are just a step outside the front door.
There are many nearby natural wonders that just have to be seen. Quechee Gorge, Texas Falls, and Moss Glen Falls are among a few of our favorites. The quaint New England towns of Woodstock, Quechee, Randolph, Barnard , and Rochester are a must to visit for shopping, antiquing, and restaurants. Nearby also offers Vermont Cabot Cheese outlet and Ben & Jerry’s.
Whether you are an active person that wants to celebrate the outdoors, a person looking for solitude that just wants to warm up next to a cozy fire, you will find this mountainside gem rejuvenating
My name is Janie Feinberg. I grew up on Long Island and went to Connecticut College for Women and Brooklyn College. I own a School Improvement company that administers to the needs of failing schools. I have two grown daughters and two fabulous granddaughters. I love animals and you will see a photo of my Golden Retriever, Frankie, who passed away a year ago.
Janie Feinberg purchased this chalet in 1968
What makes this piece of property unique! That is a very challenging task to complete without writing a book. In 1968, my then husband and I, NYC school teachers, were late in scheduling our Christmas ski vacation. We ended up at Laolke Lodge (turn left once you come across the river) a log ski house owned by Olive Pratt for the Christmas break and thus started our romance with Gaysville, VT. We fell in love with everybody and everything about Gaysville, VT. At the end of the season, Olive let us know that her brother had 11 acres of land on Vulture MT and was interested in selling the property. “Uncle Buddy” Pratt wanted a used VW bus and we traded that bus for 11 acres of land in 1968. During the winter of 1968-69, we met Uncle Chapin Pratt, and began plans for our log home. My husband and I camped on the land during the summer of 1969. We cut the trees, mixed the mortar, and I,personally, dug out the basement with a huge shovel. Our friends and I camped and everyday worked along side Uncle Chap’s workers. In 1970, we moved to Vermont and had our two girls and 2 dogs. Life happens and in 1982 I was forced to leave Vermont and move back to NY. I did not see our home again for 17years. In 1999, my two daughters and I returned to VT to discover that there had been three owners since I had sold my home. It had been abandoned for 2 winters and was going up on the market in 3 months if back taxes were not met. 3 months later we had our home back and because it was virtually destroyed being abandoned for 2 winters I got it back for what I sold it for! My son-in-law restores homes. Our home had been in two magazines. He looked at the pictures and restored our home. What a magical place it is. The two hand hewed beams in the kitchen and living room were done by Uncle Buddy with his axe. The stone work all came from a 150 year old barn that Uncle Chap tore down. The top log in the dining room was leveled by Wayne Pratt, Uncle Chape’s son, who had the use of only one ey
Janie was so kind and the chalet was cozy and just what we needed. We were hoping for a quiet anniversary weekend and got just that! This listing was accurate, the property was clean, private, and clearly cared for. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!
Great cabin. Ideal retreat for a romantic getaway. So far, one of the best houses in Vermont where we have been. Janie, the owner, is great. Near to killington to ski or Woodstock for a good dinner.
We will go back for sure
My wife and I stayed here with our two dogs during the fall and it was simply lovely! Janie had everything figured out for us and the chalet was clean and ready! All the comforts of home were available and the views and area are stunning. It's a great place to stay and not far from everywhere you want to be in VT/Green Mountains. Will definitely try to stay here again (if it's available).
As much as we don't want to share this little gem that we now think of as our own, we must. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, rural, and authentic Vermont getaway, this is it. There were just two of us and our dog in the beautifully designed chalet, but it can hold more (though we thought two and the pup was perfect). The owner, Janie, is warm and welcoming. Even though we are paying customers, she welcomes you like an old friend. Few places that allow dogs are as nice as home, and this one is. A real gem of a find!
Janie was a great host! We had a few conversations when I had some questions and she was quick to respond and had fun facts about the area to share. Check in/check out was seamless and we all cooed over the cute decor and cozy setup within the chalet. It was warm and inviting, with a minor issue with the heat that was quickly figured out (the control on the wall runs the electric fireplace against the opposite wall). The neighbors were friendly, most were renters like us ready for a snowy fun vacation. The bedroom was cozy and nicely appointed and there were enough blankets to keep warm through the night. The kitchen was stocked with all the kitchen tools (pots, pans, utensils, glassware, etc.) we needed to make breakfasts before skiing and a delicious dinner. Our coldest ski vacation yet, but this cozy cabin added to all the awesome memories we had on the slopes and off. We even took a quick hike through the wooded area in the back in all the deep snow. We we're there with another couple, total 4 people, which felt like the PERFECT amount for the space. Thanks again Janie!
We spent christmas in the chalet and had a wonderful time!
The area is really quiet so it's a perfect getaway from the busy and noisy city. The ski resort Killington is close and easily accessible by car.
We brought our two dogs with us to the chalet and they also had a great time in the nature. The furniture of the chalet is very cute and you can tell that the owner put a lot of love and time in it.
