4 Bedroom house with two baths and an outdoor shower on a spacious lot. The house is surrounded by blueberry bushes which will supply berries for breakfast many summer mornings in July and August!! Walk to the beach just down the sidewalk !! The beach is private with rocks to crab and dive from. Self contained in a cove. House includes a dining room and a screened porch for game playing and reading. The large yard provides room for outside dining and Frisbee throwing.
The house includes a washer and dryer, two televisions, cable TV and internet. The house is located near fine restaurants and excellent shopping. The Daly Beach House is only a short distance from Essex and Old Saybrook by car. Both historic towns to visit and enjoy. The town of Mystic is only 30 miles away to the East. Mystic is the home of the Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium. 20 miles to the West is Yale University and the city of New Haven. Famous Wooster Street is worth a visit by car. Home of the birthplace of American Pizza.
The Vintage Beach House at Sagamore Terrace is owned by family. It was build in 1940 as a summer cottage and later winterized and upgraded to an all year round residence. The original extended family continues to visit and use the house on a regular basis.
Fern MacMillan purchased this house in 1940
This home and beach has been enjoyed by four generations.
The front of the house faces a large open green space. The walkway to the beach cuts down the middle. Therefore traffic is behind the house and provides a large safe area that is quiet and rural. There is very little traffic and therefore provides a great place for walking or running. All residential in nature and provides beautiful views of Long Island Sound to and from the beach and neighboring streets.
5 dads playing golf in the area stayed here 10/20-10/23. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed, and the location is perfect. It's quiet and relaxing but still very convenient to many restaurants and stores, and you can't beat the short walk to the beach. Fern - the owner - was very responsive and helpful with all our questions, and we hope to stay there again next year.
Had a fantastic time. House completely equipped with everything needed. Spotless when we arrived. AC was on and worked well on the 90 + days. Extended family 3 - 72 enjoyed the beach, much like Maine. We launched the canoe several times and explored the salt mash on the far left of the beach. Older children enjoyed swimming out to "Whale Rock" and jumping off at high tide. Fern's welcome book was very complete and helpful. Neighbors very friendly with suggestions also. Wonderful time had by all. Be sure to return next year.
Great house, beds super comfortable. Kitchen well stocked! Great location to beach. Wonderful neighbors. Cozy, warm and hospitable home. Thoroughly enjoyed and will be back!
Having my wedding at Water's Edge, I knew I wanted to rent a beach house close by for my bridesmaids and their boyfriend's to stay (8 people total). With this beach house right down the street from the resort, I knew it was a perfect location. Not only was it a perfect location, but the beach house was spacious (inside and outside), had plenty of seating throughout, was super clean and felt like we were right at home! Our favorite part was the short walk to the beach down the path in the back yard; first thing we did upon arrival was walk down to the beach which was beautiful and relaxing at sunset! Extremely happy with the house and all guests were comfortable and had a great stay!
Fern was very responsive and so nice when we had questions about our arrival to the beach house. Thank you for everything, Fern!
Thank you Fern for all the amenities to make your place a home away from home. The house was perfectly located to our family reunion. Although we did not cook on our 4 night stay, the kitchen was fully equipped with anything you would need including a brand new stove. Many choices of restaurants to eat out or bring in. Dunkin Donuts seemed to be on every corner. Loved sitting in the back yard with a beautiful view of the LI sound just a few steps away.
We loved our stay here and appreciate Fern's prompt and warm communication. Everything was as described and as we expected. There are four similarly sized bedrooms upstairs, with one shared full bathroom with shower. Downstairs there is another large bathroom with a tub (no shower). There is laundry in the mudroom/entry, and an outdoor shower to use when in season. The kitchen and dining room provided ample space, as did the living room with comfortable chairs, a fireplace and a sizable dining table, plus an enclosed porch. All in all, there was plenty of room for our family of 5 to spread out, and we enjoyed every aspect of the house. It was a rainy weekend, but we did walk down to the beach along the path just outside the house, through a large grassy area. It was peaceful and picturesque. The streets are quiet and the homes well-kept in this quaint, seaside neighborhood. Thank you Fern!
