About David Shardlow

Bristol born & living here some years & thoroughly enjoying it.

Why David Shardlow chose Valencia

My property offers a pleasant airy south facing aspect thus a charming, bright & surprisingly spacious living/dining room leading on to a charming 'eye of the sun' balcony offering an unusual (for the city centre!) delightful open tree-lined perspective.

The modern building being constructed and maintained - full exterior of building facade & internal light-wells cleaned & repainted/repointed 2015 - to a very decent standard for S.Spain. Offers unusually for building of this size, dual lifts - most comparable buildings offer just the one! - extra efficiency & reliability - & ramps from street level.

Excellent communications. Just 5/8min direct walk to the C.14 Serranos towers to Carmen (entrance to Historic city) the city's trendiest most International & its most cosmo' quarter. Metro 'Sagunto' 90m offering fast direct, regular beach service - quicker than by car/bus (enroute 50 sets of traffic lights!). 3 A.1 value supermarkets are within 1-4 min direct walk.

'Mains' gas provides unlimited hot water for multiple showers or a relaxing soak unlike 'all-electric' standard apartments with statutory 2Kw electric one's.

What makes this apartment unique

* Delightful south facing balcony, enjoy year round sunshine.

* Dual Inverter energy efficient air/conditioning - & not the usual solo unit - for your comforts offering winter warmth & summer freshness.

* Spacious 24m2 full of daylight comfortable living room.

* Ease of access to all the city's best attractions.

* Brilliant funky kids play areas & adults exercise machines in the delightful recently completed Jarden de Morverdre - just opposite. Doesn't as yet show up on 2016 google maps!

* Nearby @ 2min 'El Bocaito' terraced bar/cafe & Asturian restaurant offering FREE WiFi for the price of a drink.

* On-street mostly unrestricted car-parking - rarely available & quite impossible in the majority of Spanish towns. Save yourself all the associated hassles & inevitable expenses with this somewhat overlooked, but excellent advantage.

***** SAVVY SHOPPERS *****

Want to save some serious money on top Spanish clothing brands? Ie; Zara, Desigual, Cortefiel, Springfield, Adolfo Dominguez, Mango etc Then walk, hop on bus 8 (4 mins) along Calle Ruaya to main bus station where right next door is the Nuevo Centro (City's biggest mall) & El Cortes Ingles - & hop on metrobus 160 for express service (allow 26 mins) to Centre Comercial Bonaire - reputedly Spain's largest out of town mall with outlets & 'end of lines' where you can easily make savings upwards of 80% off full retail prices. Allowing for favourable exchange rates etc you could easily make your holiday pay for itself. See theguardian, moneysavingexpert, dailymail etc for the fact finding, real savings low-down.

Perfect loacation

  • 4 of 5

We stayed 3 nights in this apartment and we really enjoyed our visit in Valencia. We were 4 persons and the apartment was perfect with two bedrooms (double beds). A small kitchen and a big livingroom suited us very well. In addition to that a very nice balcony that offer us sun all day long.

The location was perfect. Just a few minutes walk from the city centre and close to Supermercados so that we could enjoy fresh bread every morning.

Finally we have to praise the landlord, David, who was really pleasant and helpful.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the commendations. I'm really pleased you had such a great stay and managed to enjoy the best of this city's greatest assets ie; beaches/historic centre etc with such ease. This location benefits from all the city centre amenities one expects at the doorstep. In addition the easily accessible Historic city centre - being so compact does not offer the choices of the larger 'value' supermarkets and cheaper local bars. Although the Centro Mercado (El Carmen)with 900 stalls...a pleasant stroll away - really is worth checking out. The 'icing on the cake' of this apartment is the delightful south-facing exterior balcony adjoining the large bright living room with it's pleasant outlook - you can really enjoy our great climate to the utmost (300 + days of wonderfull sunshine!) - whether in or out.

Good size and very comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this property in Valencia. It was very comfortable and the distribution was excellent, with the bedrooms at one end of the hall and the living room at the other side so didn't suffer from my daughter and her friend watching tv late at night. The only thing I recommend is replacing the bath towels as those are really worn out. But aside from that small detail, everything else worked perfectly. David was really helpful in providing so much information about the city and the surrounding area.

Fantastic base to explore a fantastic city from.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived and called Malcolm from the airport. Metro system very efficient and we arrived at Sagunt tram station about 1 minute prior to Malcolm.

The apartment is a short walk and is on the 5th floor, fortunately there is an elevator to whisk you up to it.

The historic town is about 10 minutes away and we spent many hours getting lost (exploring) the many alleyways and figuring out where to eat that evening.

We were there over New Year and the celebrations were well organised and trouble free. Not even any paralytic drunks that we saw. The police presence was spot on with glass not being allowed in the square but plastic tumblers being handed out to allow you to decant rather than dispose of your precious liquid.

My highlights were the Bullring museum and 2 trips to the beach with the second one being on the tram in one direction.

However back to the apartment, it is clean spacious and comfortable and has everything you need for a citybreak. Would benefit from a toaster and some English speaking programmes on the TV , BBC world news even.

That said the weather was so good we did not have a lot of time to sit down and watch it anyway.

We are now home having telephoned to book a Taxi for 4.30 this morning and when we stepped outside our Taxi was there.

I feel as if I have had a holiday in Spain rather than have been in Spain in an English enclave. Brilliant time .

spacious apartment in a good location

  • 4 of 5

This is a very nice apartment, tastefully decorated, which we, as a couple, found to be spacious and well-equipped. It has two bedrooms with the main wardrobes being located in the large living room. This might be a concern if more than two people were using the place but for us it didn`t pose a problem. The living room itself has a very comfortable sitting area which, being south-facing, receives direct sunlight which is filtered pleasantly by the huge Eucalyptus tree outside. It was really very pleasant to sit on the balcony and watch and hear the world go by five stories below you.

On that score, the two lifts in the building are quick and easy to use.

The bathroom is fine and appears to have been updated fairly recently with a shower which provided lots of hot water on demand. There was also plenty of storage space for bathroom stuff which made life easy for everyone. A good supply of fresh-smelling towels was also most welcome

The kitchen is a decent size and has most things you could need except , perhaps, a toaster. A minor point: the bowls we used for breakfast cereals, etc could, ideally, be smaller and deeper though we managed with what was provided

Although one of the bedrooms was a little on the small size, the main one which we used was more than adequate for our needs and was furnished with a very comfortable bed.

There was little noise from the other apartments with the position of the bedrooms, being on the inside of the building around an internal courtyard, ensured a peaceful nights sleep.

Although we visited in mid-October, the temperature on a couple of days required us to use the air-conditioning, which was efficient and, unusually, quiet.

The location of the apartment is excellent, being close to tram and bus stops and is very well served by bakeries, supermarkets, bars, etc

It is something like a ten minute walk to the historic centre which we found to be full of fascinating buildings, churches, museums, etc.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to Valencia and will certainly visit again.

Thanks are due to our host, David, who met us at the apartment and made us feel welcome. He was most helpful in explaining about the apartment and also gave sound advice on transport, places to eat and generally on how to make the most of our stay.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests. Many thanks for your kind commendations & appreciation of my apartment and its location etc. I probably will add a toaster although I'm sure the microwave is a combi grill & the oven which doubles up for grilling. I have to keep an eye out for the limited contracted - approx 5kw - electrical supply, thus I offer dual fuels to include 'mains' gas to cope with the water heating & cooking requirements - In Spain the electricity is contracted in differing increments & is a third of what's standard in the U.K. - So entailing a somewhat fine balancing act to minimise power 'trip-out' out's, particularly if too many appliances running simultaneously. Smaller cereal bowels now included alongside soup size bowels. I'm pleased to hear you both had an excellent time. Hope to see you back soon. Best David.

Great Apartment, Excellent Host,

  • 5 of 5

We quite enjoyed the apartment. Nice big kitchen, bathroom. Tastefully decorated. David met us at the door and filled us in on the area. We were relieved to find that coffee, tea, and implements for their making were provided. And added bonus--efficient, quiet, and effective AC! Do note that Valencia doesn't yet have Uber, but they have a local taxi app that works quite well.

Well equipped and comfortable. Excellent location. All positive apart from noise from neighbours banging doors and shouting on two of the nights until 2 in the morning.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests. I'm very pleased you had a great time and enjoyed my apartment's great location. Sorry to hear about the neighbours heated 'domestics'. It's normally a case of 'live & let-live' in any residential block. Although understandably a bit irrating over two consecutive nights. Normally a brusque knock on the offending neighbour's door does the trick! I'm surprised another neighbour hadn't intervened. I'm always happy to have a word with the relevant neighbour, particularly if it's an ongoing scenario; normally not the case, as most residents are generally very considerate. Best David.
