Big Sur Coast Cabin Offers Awesome Views

Bedrooms 3
Separate WC's1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 + Baths,

Please Note-Due to unknown status of Highway One South, this property can still be reached from Nacimiento Ferguson Road to the east and Highway One from the north.

Located in some of California's most rugged and breathtaking scenery, the cabin is situated 650 feet above the Big Sur coastline overlooking Highway One. Guests can enjoy a fifty-mile panoramic view from Cape San Martin to Point Sur. The cabin overlooks Jade Cove where some of the worlds most exquisite jade has been found and is celebrated in the nearby annual Jade Festival each October.

While the cabin is ideal for a romantic getaway or spirit renewing retreat, it is also located close to multiple outdoor activities. If you choose an ACTIVE vacation, Sand Dollar Beach is 5 minutes away where beach combing, surfing and picnicking are available. Numerous hiking opportunities abound in the adjoining Los Padres National Forest. Within an hour's drive or less, one can visit The Hermitage, Nepenthe, Elephant Seal Beach, Esalen Institute, Big Sur Village, Julia Pfieffer, Andrew Molera and Limekiln State Parks to mention a few highlights.

Tour world famous Hearst Castle then spend the day shopping for that special art piece in charming Cambria. In less than an hour and a half drive you can visit Mission San Antonio or enjoy wine tasting in Paso Robles wine country.

If you prefer a more RELAXED vacation, enjoy the expansive view of the ever-changing Pacific from either of two decks. Catch a glimpse of Grey or Humpback whales, dolphins, flocks of wild pigeons, boats, or perhaps a hang-glider before he lands.

Catch some rays on the built-in sun bench or take a dip in the hot tub while watching awesome sunsets. While soaking in the hot tub, listen to the surf and sea lions below. Wildlife is as close as the gardens. Big Sur Coast Cabin is a certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat site.

Relax on the sectional and bird watch through the windows for local favorites at the feeders. If you are very lucky, you might see a magnificent California Condor at eyeball-to-eyeball level. And when total darkness decends, sit on the deck and watch the Milky Way appear with no city lights to compete.

Chefs can try their skills on the outdoor kitchen/patio stainless steel grill and side burner. Enjoy the 6 person glider swing.

Still too active? Relax, do nothing but enjoy being here. Satellite TV ( flat screen High Definition) ensures that no one has to miss their favorite TV programs. You may wish to bring your favorite DVD's or use the cabin's library to enjoy with that favorite novel. Forget that novel? Find a new author from the small in-house library.

Our caretaker Gail is close by to ensure a smooth stay. She is well versed in the local flora, fauna, and the nearby area and should be able to help you with any questions you may have.

No pets, please.

Big Sur Coast Cabin is pleased to now offer high speed internet and Wifi connections.

About The Owner

Almost 50 years ago my father had the foresight and ambition to 'build himself a cabin'. Introduced to this area by his father before him, who searched for gold in the Los Burros mining area, he grew up with a love of the California coast and in particular, the Big Sur area. With virtually no services available and only a vision of the site he choose, he started his cabin. From building the road, clearing the site, hauling lumber and supplies, framing, etc., he brought his vision of a coast cabin to reality.

For many years, the house, simply known as 'the coast cabin' by family and friends, has been a favorite getaway and meeting place. Not only has it served as a place for fun and laughter but as a retreat for those who need time spent in quiet reflection. The cabin with its unique setting and stunning views offers a respite in todays hurried world. The memories made are as varied as the guests who have been there. We, as family, know we are truly blessed to have this treasure and we share the cabin with you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cabin was a magical place to spend alone time with the one you love. It was so good to feel as though we were in our own home yet so far away that we could relax and enjoy each other in the beautiful surroundings.

We will be back again and again to enjoy your magnificent cabin.

Thank you for the ease of the transaction as well.

There are no words...

  • 5 of 5

There are not enough words to describe how amazing this house is. The pictures don't do it justice. From the second we pulled in and were greeted by hummingbirds flying everywhere to the last minute I had to force myself to leave, it was amazing. This home was obviously built with love and is maintained the same way. The beds are comfortable, but I barely slept because I didn't want to miss a moment of that view! We heard sea lions barking and saw whales from the deck! Lois was an absolute dream to work with. So helpful and gave great advice. You can't go wrong staying here...my only regret was not staying longer. Thank you Lois for sharing such and amazing place with us!

Owner's Response: It is our great pleasure to share this home and the Big Sur experience with you. Thank you for noticing the comfortable beds (new) and the wildlife which we encourage by feeding around the cabin. Humpback whales have been almost a daily occurrence off the decks and guests with sharp eyes can easily see them. We hope you will return soon and enjoy more of what Big Sur has to offer.

Spectacular gem in paradise

  • 5 of 5

Loved our stay here. Better than photos show. Well maintained and little touches added for guest's comfort, health and enjoyment. - like clean hot tub, binoculars, games, environmentally responsible toiletry products, composting, sweet cared for garden, and views beyond compare. Lois, the host, was very helpful and attentive. Even had a lovely welcome basket of food goodies awaiting our arrival. There is a caretakers unit just up the hill, but quite non-intrusive. Felt extremely private. Would recommend to anyone looking for a secluded vacation. Just make sure you bring all the food you need as supplies are a good drive away.

Absolutely breathtaking - a must stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

The Big Sur Cabin provides for a magical getaway that entirely immerses you in the peace, beauty, and

grace that the region’s majestic nature has to offer. Having recently spent several days there during an

elopement trip, I am glad to share some comments about the cabin.

Every morning, we were greeted with inquisitive humming birds, jays, mocking birds, rabbits, and

whales (among many other friendly creatures) as we enjoyed breakfast in the garden, drinking coffee,

while being memorized by panoramic coastal views of the Pacific Ocean (which are also available from

every room of the cabin). The cabin’s close proximity to the parks helped us to explore much of the

area’s forests and beaches in a convenient amount of time, allowing us to return to the cabin to enjoy

gorgeous sunsets while grilling dinner outside, on the large well-manicured terrace. At night, the entire

property is gorgeously lit by subtle, non-intrusive lighting, helping us to be safe while also allowing us to

see every star in the sky while relaxing in the hot tub after dinner.

Practically speaking: the kitchen is outfitted with a wide variety of items for preparing, cooking, and

serving just about anything you want; between the solar power and the infrequently required generator,

there was sufficient electricity available for lights, hair driers, etc.; the beds were comfortable; we never

ran out of propane; the WIFI worked and provided internet access; everything was clean and prepared,

In the spirit of objectivity, we tried to come up with some cons and short-comings, but could not.

Overall, we sincerely recommend the Big Sur Cabin. If you are looking for a private, peaceful place to get

away and enjoy the timeless majesty of the coast, in a safe environment that has been meticulously

prepared for you to have no needs or worries… then this is the place. We can barely wait to return.

Incredible view cabin on the Big Sur coast

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in many vacation rentals (mostly VRBO) in California, the western US, and Europe. I would rate this cabin the highest and would be my favorite of all for a variety of reasons. The view is an obvious reason, and it is stunning from the living area and multiple decks and patios. However, there were other reasons. The gardens/landscaping, full of flowers and hummingbirds was wild and beautiful. The furniture for lounging, inside and out, was high quality and very comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped with mostly high end appliances and cooking equipment (but no dishwasher). And the house is nicely decorated with interesting art and collectables. The bedrooms are very comfortable. The only negative that should be mentioned is that there is only 1 shower and no bath tub. The very nice shower is in the upstairs bathroom where there are two connected bedrooms that would be good for a family of four or five. The other bedroom is downstairs from the living level and has only a small basin in the room, with a toilet in a small room off the bedroom.

A great stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here! The Big Sur Cabin is a special place. Our family of four enjoyed a wonderful time --amazing hikes during the day, card games on the deck and barbecues at night. Everything as described and portrayed. The hosts provide special touches such as wonderful soaps in the bathroom and a lovely gift basket of snacks. The drive in is a little more difficult these days, but we are so glad we came!

Owner's Response: It is very gratifying to know you enjoyed your time at the cabin and in Big Sur. We appreciated the light footprint your family left and in taking the time to write a review. We are looking for the scheduled re-opening of Highway One to make the journey to our area a bit easier. Happy travels.
