About the property

This is the same house advertised in advert no 637504 but gives the rates for 2-4 persons (available by choosing the chalet bedroom only and the upstairs living room where the canapé gigogne can serve as 2 single beds). If your party is larger (up to 7) or if you would like the extra space and comfort of the second bedroom please see 637504 for details and prices.

The charm of "Le Pichet" lies not just in the inherent beauty of the property itself but also in its stunning surroundings and the wealth of things to see and do in the area. It is ideally placed to watch the TOUR DE FRANCE which often passes within 20k, and for ski-ing at nearby Guzet.(25k away)

The photos here are being changed for winter ones, and the text being rewritten. In the meantime please accept our apologies for the inconvenence and please see our other advert for an idea of the house/area in summer.

Exclusive full board painting holidays and walking holidays are also offered.

"Le Pichet" is a traditional mountain house built, as are many in the region, partly into the hillside. Lovingly restored over the past 18 years it retains as many of the original features as possible - the "pas de oiseaux" originally built for thatching purposes, and the beams of the old roof structure. Tastefully and comfortably furnished, and now hung with paintings by Rodney and embroideries by Eleri, we are proud to welcome you into this part of our home. Rodney's sculptures provide a final personal touch.

The house benefits from superb light, particularly in the afternoons and evenings in the downstairs dining room and upstairs rooms.

Ground floor:a spacious dining room with woodburning stove, bathroom and well equipped kitchen (with raclette and fondue);lovely oak staircase leading to the first floor-two charming bedrooms and a light, high-ceilinged,living room which can also serve as a bedroom if required.

The garden is an idyllic place to relax or dine outside, with stunning views and sunsets.

Car: necessary

Leaving the Garbet Valley between Oust and Ercé, you follow a lane which winds for 4k among woods and flowers until it reaches Miramont,a hamlet paradise overlooking the Bassin d'Oust.

A car is neccessary- we are 1h from the Toulouse Bayonne autoroute((A64 jn 20); 2h from Carcassonne and Lourdes airports (Ryanair) and 1h30 from Toulouse-Blagnac (Easyjet, BA,and others.) Please do ask for information. Detailed directions are sent on reservation.

The Ariege-Couserans (18 valleys converging on St Girons) has a rich and varied heritage of which the locals are fiercely and justly proud. It has the wildest, most remote and unspoilt scenery of the Pyrenees as well as the gentler beauty of its lower valleys and slopes, and Miramont is ideally placed for you to explore wherever the fancy takes you. Walking is superb whatever your level, (we are close to the GR10, GR pays, Chemins de la Liberté and numerous walks to the Spanish border) and for those interested in the abundant and beautiful flowers and wildlife of the Ariege, we can put you in touch with local specialists (we have several books on the subjects.) There is an excellent Centre Equestre nearby, catering for beginners to dressage level, as well as wonderful hacking; canoeing in the Salat, lake and river angling, and skiing at the family-oriented resort of Guzet-Neige, known as the most beautiful scenically in the Pyrenees. "Golf de l'Ariege" is about 1h away, as is the Riviere Souterraine de Labouiche where you can take a boat trip through some phenomenal underground caverns. Beautiful Gallo-Roman St Lizier adjoining St Girons is one of “les plus beaux villages de France”, and a UNESCO site, while medieval Foix and its chateau is 1hr away. Numerous Cathar castles, the world-famous Grottes de Lombrives/Niaux and Tarascon’s park of prehistoric art are all within a 2h radius, as are the Observatory of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, Lourdes, Carcassonne and of course Toulouse, "La ville rose".
