Exquisite private courtyard with Corinthian Pillars outside and inside. Bedroom also has wonderful brick vaulted ceiling . In addition charming and helpful owner.
What a lovely property, so much history. This was perfect for us. Paola was so helpful. With Da Sara and Co a Caffeteria and Pasticceria across the road, and Osteria da Rosolo a short walk away what more could you want. Lucca is a delight.
I had another great 3 night stay in March at Paola's apartment in beautiful Lucca. It is situated in a wonderful part of the city, so convenient for the bus station and the tourist centre. The walls are a couple of minutes walk away, a brilliant place to capture the feel of this amazing place. People watch or cycle, wander or just sit in the sun with a book. The apartment is comfortable with everything you might need and Paola as always is so helpful and welcoming. The courtyard garden is lovely. A great place to stay in Lucca.
I stayed in Paola's beautiful apartment for a week in February. I was visiting Lucca alone and its position on Via San Paulino was perfect. I travelled from Pisa Airport by bus, 3 euros one way and took approx 50 minutes. The apartment is a short walk, 3minutes maybe from the bus stop in Piazzale Verdi and easy to find. Paola and her son Mateu were very welcoming and informative and they offered their help with anything during my stay which was very reassuring.
The apartment was just as expected from the photos and full of character. The kitchen had everything I needed and I did cook an evening meal on a couple of occasions. I made Italian coffee in the espresso pot on the stove the Italian way and this all added to the experience. The bedroom was great looking out onto the courtyard and a wonderful huge bookcase full of interesting old books adding to the character. The apartment is next to the beautiful little church of San Paolino and its worth a look inside. Prepare for the profusion of bells on a Sunday but even this felt right. There is a pizzeria just across the road , a bakery , 2 deli's and a gorgeous chocolate shop so close and about a hundred yards away 2 lovely cafes near Puccini's house which served wonderful coffee hot chocolate and pastries amongst other delights. Lucca is filled with wonderful shops both designer and more reasonably priced stores. In February the sales (saldis) were on in most of the shops. The courtyard garden of the apartment was lovely with camelias and citrus trees grown by Paola and even at this time of year I was able to sit out for a while. As a lone traveller Lucca felt very safe and I wandered exploring the walls and all the town's lovely streets and beautiful buildings. A sunny day to Viaraggio on the coast was amazing on the bus, again 3 euros one way and a breathtaking Puccini recital at the San Giovanni church in Lucca. A beautiful authentic apartment and wonderful location helped make my stay unforgettable.
Twice a year I take my mother on holiday and this March we went to Lucca. I found Paola's apartment on this website and was most impressed by the central location and the look of the building. Booking was quick & easy, communication was straight forward as Paola speaks excellent english. We flew into Pisa airport and got a bus to Lucca, three euros each for a 45 minute journey.
The bus station was at the bottom of the street we were living on and after a quick 250 metre stroll we were at Paola's house. Her son took us to the holiday apartment, gave us two sets of keys and showed us how things worked. We were very impressed with the apartment , the photos do not give a good sense of the scale of the place, the first floor ceiling must be easily 18 to 20 feet high with the second bed on a small mezzanine floor. The kitchen was well equipped and the whole place is most impressive, I can believe the built in 1500 date. The apartment is brilliantly located, Via Paolino is the main east / west street of the city and you can easily get to anywhere from there. Once you have left the flat and within 50 metres there is a lovely delicatessen and three doors down a bread / cake shop. Between these two shops you can get most of what you might require. We bought bread, milk, coffee here and found an Italian version of Spar not too away. The deli also sold a wonderful pesto sauce that made two meals for two for four euros, we visited both shops daily.
Every evening we dined at a different restaurant and did not have a bad meal at all. We went to Trattoria da Leo, Osteria San Giogio and a little place just down the street call Rama among others, all were very good. There is a cafe called Caffe del Mercato that we ate at three or four times at lunchtime and had coffee's at least a dozen times on the north side of Piazza San Michele. Other than that we walked all over the city and went all the way round as well on the city walls.
Lucca is a beautiful place filled with a whole range of shops, restaurants and places to snack in. We had an excellent time in Lucca and really enjoyed Paola's apartment as well as meeting Paola herself who was always happy and smiling. Very happy to recommend this apartment. Thank you very much.
