Overview

About the property

And into the forest I go....to lose myself and find my soul

Check out our 25, 33, now 36 5 star reviews, and growing!

The reviews are unbiased testimony of our guests experience.

There is now Wi-Fi at the Cobbin!. We have reduced our damage deposit to $200 due to the care our guests have shown in using the cabin. Your Security Deposit will be refunded within a day or two. Most often on the day you leave.

We do not charge extra for people or pets. We include that in the rental price. We do charge extra for cleaning. We keep our Cobbin very clean. A 5 hour clean is done between each guest. A clean environment is very important to us. Obviously that is working. Most all of our guests mention this in their reviews.

The Cobbin and surrounding area was blessedly saved from the Valley Fire. It is so amazing that you can barely tell there was a fire from our property, although it was stopped 50 feet away.

With the large expanse of windows the Cobbin offers the feel of living in the trees, similar to a tree house. The Cobbin in Whispering Pines is a place to unwind and reconnect with nature. Enjoy the peace, serenity and privacy. Due to all the rain you can now hear the spring that feeds water to all the houses in the area. This is what you will experience when you visit our cozy Cobb Mountain cabin, lovingly referred to as ' The Cobbin'. Take advantage of our flexible check in time. If we don't have a guest booked in the day before your arrival you can check in as early as you like!

The Cobbin is a remodeled 1940's vacation cabin on half an acre, surrounded by over 100 redwood, pine, dogwood and oak trees. It features a large fenced backyard, perfect for your two or four-legged companion(s). Watch them frolic from your rocking chair on the deck. Enjoy the sun rise over the mountain with a (complimentary) morning cup of coffee. This dog-friendly retreat comes with a fully equipped large kitchen, roomy bathroom with a claw foot tub, washer and dryer, and a cozy bedroom. The living room is well appointed with a NEW sofa/ double bed and cozy chairs, perfect for curling up with a book or gazing at the trees through the large expanse of windows. At night choose a movie from the large DVD library, over 150 and growing, amuse yourself with a deck of cards, a board game, puzzle, or venture out to one of the several restaurants nearby.

Your dog will appreciate the large comfy dog bed, raised feeding station, toys and treats. For your convenience there is also an x-pen and baby gate at the kitchen.

You will find the Cobbin impeccable when it comes to clean. When we say clean we mean clean! A five hour clean is done inbetween every guest. We take extra care because we do encourage pets. The backyard is patrolled before each visit and pet bedding washed. Included in the list of house cleaning duties is the front and back decks are swept and parts of the yard raked.

Nearby is a lovely nine hole golf course, grocery store, bohemian coffee house ( with its own book store), Brickoven pizza ( our favorite, menu in kitchen drawer), restaurants, boutiques, pub, gas station and post office. A 10-20 minute drive down one side of Cobb Mountain will take you to Twin Pines Casino, Hidden Valley 18 hole golf course, and Middletown. A 30 minute drive down the other side will take you to Clear Lake (perfect for boating , fishing and bird watching). There are many small wineries and more small towns around the Lake to explore, along with 11 free boat ramps. The driveway at the Cobbin can more than fit a vehicle and boat trailer.

Located just 2 hours from Sacramento and 2 hours from San Francisco it makes for a pleasant drive to Cobb Mountain. Take a 2 hour day trip to the coast and check out Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

Check out Robert Louis Stevenson State Park about 15 miles from the house, towards Calistoga, for a beautiful hike, sorry but not dog friendly.

Looking for dog friendly hikes, checkout Dogtrekker.com type in Lake County, Ca. Highland Springs and other dog spots are listed.

The cell phone reception at ' The Cobbin' is a bit sketchy- the best reception is on the back deck. The reception has improved in the last 6 months. Text reception is best, phone calls and Internet are about %80 successful now, mattering on the weather. Mountain High Coffee House a 5 minute drive away.

We think you will be so happy enjoying the fresh air, peace and solitude that you will soon forget about surfing the internet.

To be clear, the rental is for the whole cabin , large fenced in backyard on 1/2 acre. No one else is on the property. We do recommend , for comfort purposes, a max of 4 adults and 2 dogs. The owners can be reached 24/7 if needed. Response time ASAP.

We look forward to sharing our Cobbin with you. Be prepared for your kids, your pet and yourself to fall in love with the Cobbin. It truly is heavenly.

About Meghan Shively, Property Manager

Being a big dog lover and one who loves to getaway from the weekly grind and breathe in the oxygen from the big trees, read a book, cook a meal and slow down I found this little Cabin on Cobb Mountain to be that little slice of heaven.

Meghan Shively, Property Manager purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Meghan Shively, Property Manager chose Middletown

This is the Mountain getaway you imagine. Surrounded by towering trees, yet rays of sunshine warm the back deck. The fresh air, the peaceful rejuvenating silence make this the ideal place to recharge. Bring your best friend and enjoy it together.

What makes this cabin unique

The expanse of windows is like living in the trees. Yet the remodel has been so well done the house is a wonderful blend of old and new. The dual pane windows and excellent insulation make it comfortable all year around.

The peace and solitude surrounding the Cobbin is incredible. It makes you want to just soak it all in, and in. I could stay on the back deck and watch mother natures gift to us for eternity. The birds singing, the sunlight caressing the trees, the trees swaying, it is all captivating.

The toughest part is leaving!

Just got back home and wanted to turn around and go back!!!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful opportunity to relax and unwind in such a majestic environment. The "Cobbin" was fully appointed with everything one could possibly want without the distraction of TV and cellphones! It does have WiFi and they're working on getting Netflix. Everything was pristine and very well appointed. We were fortunate in that we were able to stay almost a full 2-weeks (13 days). Our only "complaint", if you will, is that there are no "fine dining" establishments in Cobb, Whispering Pines or Middletown. It was our 18th Anniversary while we were there and I ended up cooking (ah, poor me :).

The back deck has a very pretty table, chairs & umbrella where we enjoyed our morning coffee and breakfast. And it was such fun to watch the little woodpeckers darting in and out of the tree close to the kitchen windows while they were feeding their babies...2 of them, we think. The front deck was very nice to sit out there in the evening and just enjoy the warm weather. CAUTION, though...the mosquitoes are out in full force (June/July). Make sure you bring repellent along.

Ladies (and gentlemen), don't watch the movie "Hachi" (with Richard Gere)...you'll never stop crying! But the Cobbin has tons of movies, books and lovely CDs to keep you entertained for hours, days or weeks!

Our two little pooches, Amy & Bingo were just so happy there. We brought along their own soft-sided kennel but there's a big kennel & gigantic "pillow" for pups/big dogs to use, too. Be careful of the round stickers they collect in their coats...they had them all over and they're pretty sticky & hard to get off of them. I think they fall off the pine trees. You definitely don't want the stickers in the dogs ears.

Hardester's Market is just up a ways and I couldn't get over all the spectactular fresh produce and fabulous cuts of meat. Can't think of anything you couldn't buy there and at a reasonable price (except flying insect spray...they were constantly "sold out"!) Enjoyed a pizza at the new "Cobb Mountain Pizza" (formerly the Brick Oven). It's just across from Hardester's. And if you want great coffee or tea or just a place to browse and pick up a few gifts, there's a little cafe right next to Hardester's.

One other caution: The roads up to the Cobbin are REALLY winding and once you're on the Maple Shadow turnoff, it's only 1 narrow lane...so be careful.

We'll definitely be back...such a fantastic place and only 2 hours away! Thank you, Meghan & Brea!

Cute little cabin with all the comforts of home

  • 4 of 5

This is an adorable little get away with everything you would want from home. We loved the view from the sitting and dining area and even the bedroom. Our family enjoyed the Cobbin over the holidays and it was wonderful! The books, games and movies were a great addition as well.

The Cobbin was very clean and you wouldn’t even know that it was pet friently if not for all the extra’s for the pups. No dog smell or hair at all.

Our only reccomendation would be to make sure you bring an extra sweater in the cooler months. There is no heat in the bathroom and kitchen and the the place stays rather chilly. The bedroom can be kept warm with the space heater provided and the couch and tv area stays warm with the oil heater. Don’t plan to bake in the stove to keep this warm on that side of the house, the propane smell is so strong you have to open the windows.

Relaxing Thanksgiving!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Cobbin over Thanksgiving and it was a wonderful getaway! They had everything needed to prepare a Thanksgiving feast. Beautiful and relaxing, spent time over in Clear Lake, wine tasting and hiked Wrights Peak. Our dog was right at home and he loved the dog bed. It was cooler weather so, we did not get to hang out on the back porch~ next time. If you are looking for a great place to stay with your dog this spot is ideal!!

Enjoyed our stay at the Cobbin.

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth stay at The Cobbin, and we always enjoy our stay while we are here. A few minor things have changed since the new owners/managers took over, but the location and the coziness of The Cobbin have won us over. We really enjoy the fact The Cobbin is dog friendly and has a fenced in yard, as our dog travels with us everywhere. The Cobbin has always been clean and comfortable. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else when we travel out to California.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Cobbin! Recommended!

  • 4 of 5

Had a wonderful weekend at the Cobbin - peaceful, remote and quiet getaway - without being too far from restaurants, bars, coffee shops etc..

The place was super clean, dog friendly, spacious (enough for 4 guests) and had a great back deck and yard.

Bonus items: the extras, i wasn't expecting were a fully functioning kitchen, with foil and wrap, and sandwhich bags (The things you forget to pack yourself) as well as condiments and spices. the DVD collection was entertaining as were the board games in the Cobbin.

Only downside was the lack of air conditioning - but there are so many windows and fans in the place we hardly noticed!

Thanks for a great stay.
