About the property

And into the forest I go....to lose myself and find my soul

A brand new AC/heater, wood stove and a gigantic deck. Of course still dog friendly! This will help us accommodate the ever growing number of guest that value the nature experience that Whispering Pines has to offer.

Check out our 25, 33, now 36 5 star reviews, and growing!

We earned most of these in our two years of sharing the Cobbin with our guests. The reviews are unbiased testimony of our guests experience.

We have reduced our damage deposit to $200 due to the care our guest have shown in using the cabin. Your Security Deposit will be refunded within a day or two. Most often on the day you leave.

We do not charge extra for people or pets. We include that in the rental price. We do charge extra for cleaning. We keep our Cobbin very clean. A 5 hour clean is done between each guest. A clean environment is very important to us. Obviously that is working. Most all of our guests mention this in their reviews.

The Cobbin and surrounding area was blessedly saved from the Valley Fire. It is so amazing that you can barely tell there was a fire from our property, although it was stopped 50 feet away.

With the large expanse of windows the Cobbin offers the feel of living in the trees, similar to a tree house. The Cobbin in Whispering Pines is a place to unwind and reconnect with nature. Enjoy the peace, serenity and privacy. Due to all the rain you can now hear the spring that feeds water to all the houses in the area. This is what you will experience when you visit our cozy Cobb Mountain cabin, lovingly referred to as ' The Cobbin'. Take advantage of our early check in of any time after 6 am, and out late check out of 6 pm.

The Cobbin is a remodeled 1940's vacation cabin on half an acre, surrounded by over 100 redwood, pine, dogwood and oak trees. It features a large fenced backyard, perfect for your two or four-legged companion(s). Watch them frolic from your rocking chair on the deck. Enjoy the sun rise over the mountain with a (complimentary) morning cup of coffee. This dog-friendly retreat comes with a fully equipped large kitchen, roomy bathroom with a claw foot tub, washer and dryer, and a cozy bedroom. The living room is well appointed with a NEW sofa/ double bed and cozy chairs, perfect for curling up with a book or gazing at the trees through the large expanse of windows. At night choose a movie from the large DVD library, over 150 and growing, amuse yourself with a deck of cards, a board game, puzzle, or venture out to one of the several restaurants nearby.

Your dog will appreciate the large comfy dog bed, raised feeding station, toys and treats. For your convenience there is also an x-pen and baby gate at the kitchen.

You will find the Cobbin impeccable when it comes to clean. When we say clean we mean clean! A five hour clean is done inbetween every guest. We take extra care because we do encourage pets. The backyard is patrolled before each visit and pet bedding washed. Included in the list of house cleaning duties is the front and back decks are swept and parts of the yard raked.

Nearby is a lovely nine hole golf courses, grocery store, bohemian coffee house ( with its own book store), Brickoven pizza ( our favorite, menu in kitchen drawer), restaurants, boutiques, pub, gas station and post office. A 10-20 minute drive down one side of Cobb Mountain will take you to Twin Pines Casino, Hidden Valley 18 hole golf course, and Middletown. A 30 minute drive down the other side will take you to Clear Lake (perfect for boating , fishing and bird watching). There are many small wineries and more small towns around the Lake to explore, along with 11 free boat ramps. The driveway at the Cobbin can more than fit a vehicle and boat trailer.

Located just 2 hours from Sacramento and 2 hours from San Francisco it makes for a pleasant drive to Cobb Mountain. Take a 2 hour day trip to the coast and check out Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

Check out Robert Louis Stevenson State Park about 15 miles from the house, towards Calistoga, for a beautiful hike, sorry but not dog friendly.

Looking for dog friendly hikes, checkout Dogtrekker.com type in Lake County, Ca. Highland Springs and other dog spots are listed.

The cell phone reception at ' The Cobbin' is a bit sketchy- the best reception is on the back deck. The reception has improved in the last 6 months. Text reception is best, phone calls and Internet are about %80 successful now, mattering on the weather. Free wifi can be found at the Mountain High Coffee House a 5 minute drive away.

We think you will be so happy enjoying the fresh air, peace and solitude that you will soon forget about surfing the internet.

To be clear, the rental is for the whole cabin , large fenced in backyard on 1/2 acre. No one else is on the property. We do recommend , for comfort purposes, a max of 4 adults and 2 dogs. The owners can be reached 24/7 if needed. Response time ASAP.

We look forward to sharing our Cobbin with you. Be prepared for your kids, your pet and yourself to fall in love with the Cobbin. It truly is heavenly.

About Meghan Shively, Property Manager

I have lived in Petaluma for 35 years and have enjoyed using VRBO for our get a ways the last 20 years with my husband and our dog.

We fell in love with this cabin while staying at a near by VRBO house while on vacation. The Cobbin is now our number one vacation destination, always.

Meghan Shively, Property Manager purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Meghan Shively, Property Manager chose North Coast California

First of all it was love at first sight(: I grew up in Washington state and always respected and loved Mother Nature, especially the trees. I always dreamed of having a cabin someday. Well sometimes dreams do come true! For me it is the Cobbin.

What makes this cabin unique

The expanse of windows is like living in the trees. Yet the remodel has been so well done the house is a wonderful blend of old and new. The dual pane windows and excellent insulation make it comfortable all year around.

The peace and solitude surrounding the Cobbin is incredible. It makes you want to just soak it all in, and in. I could stay on the back deck and watch mother natures gift to us for eternity. The birds singing, the sunlight caressing the trees, the trees swaying, it is all captivating.

The toughest part is leaving!

Beautiful, peaceful getaway.

  • 5 of 5

I loved staying at "The Cobbin" and cannot wait to go back. It was a very clean, warm, and homey getaway that was extremely dog-friendly. Never have I stayed anywhere where my dog was not just allowed but welcomed! I have an Irish Wolfhound, and many places restrict the size of dog but not true at The Cobbin. I enjoyed breakfast each morning watching the sunrise on the back porch and relaxing to the sunsetting on the front porch in the evenings. I would recommend bringing bug spray as on my last evening I was a feast for the mosquitos.

Although, I did not travel as my trip was to get away from it all; Napa is less than 20 miles away and the scenery was beautiful getting there as you drove past a National Forest if nature walks is your thing.

Relaxing retreat for all, including the dog!

  • 5 of 5

Charming, quiet, lovely and well-thought-out get away. Spent 3 nights here and only saw 2 cars go by on the road the whole time. Well-equipped kitchen, fenced yard and back deck were favorite features. As far as our four legged guest, his favorites were the fluffy huge dog bed in the living room and the dog biscuits we discovered in the "cookie jar". The house was clean and the open-air feeling with all the windows was great. Looking for a get-away without internet or cable TV? This is about as good as it gets. Watched a few movies from the 150+ library available, played a few games, napped, read and had wine on the back deck and talked. If you stay here, you'll leave in a relaxed state of mind.

A wonderful retreat in the woods

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is comfortable, perfect for a couple with 2 dogs. Nothing is missing and extra touches like small flashlights placed in strategic places and dog beds, were much appreciated. The bed was reasonably comfortable with lush sheets, and the bathtub divine. There were lots of movies for late night viewing and a grocery store and internet cafe one mile North, with friendly staff and great treats.

The area had lots of places to hike with the dogs; especially nice were the Cache Creek trails and Robert Louis Stevenson State Park. We love bird watching and the system of nature reserves near Colusa are magical. Unfortunately, a large fire swept through the area in 2015 so the area immediately around the cabin is badly burned, but still beautiful.

Awesome Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We have now stayed at the Cobbin on two different occasions and love it. We have family out in California that we come visit yearly. We have a wonderful dog (lab) that travels with us wherever we go, and the Cobbin is just perfect for all of us. The Cobbin is far away enough from town to have a secluded feel to it, but close enough to our family and to small towns to go enjoy what the area has to offer. We loved the backyard with beautiful towering trees around it and the fact it was large enough for our dog to roam, but fenced so it still had boundaries. The Cobbin was furnished with everything we needed and has a very homey feel to it. As long as the Cobbin is available, we will probably always stay there.
