About Domenico Dall'Olio

I am a university professor at the University of Bologna and the Ca 'Foscari University of Venice. I teach courses in Markets and Securities, Securities Market Economics, Economics and Management. I am author of several books on finance and home economics. I have a camper, with whom I like to visit Europe and Italy whenever I can. I love outdoor sports. In the summer I live in Casale dei Conti, so I can follow my guests at best.

Why Domenico Dall'Olio chose Bologna

This house belongs to our family since three generations. It 'set in a beautiful setting and for us, it's our place for summer rest, away from the noise and traffic of the city, yet close to all amenities. The satisfaction of our guests is always our primary goal. We make every possible effort to make your holiday unforgettable.

Charming and wonderfully placed (but with some annoying deficits)

  • 3 of 5

We (that's my wife and my two children of 7 and 10 years) spent our summer vacation at Casale Dei Conti. We enjoyed the trip mostly, especially the friendliness of the owners, the pool and the landscape surrounding the propery. The owners were always available when we needed them and were eager to help. The landlord's mother served us freshly pressed juice at the pool which was really nice. Since the property only has three apartments the pool was never overcrowded and the general impression was more like being guests of the house than being in a holiday resort.

However, we did have some trouble with the aparment iself. I currently forget which unit it was and I do encourage the owner to clarify this and comment on my review and especially on whether the aspects mentioned have been taken care of since the summer.

First of all, the plumbing in the bathroom was not what you would call standard today (which is to a certain extent, of course, due to the age of the house). Still, the main drain of the toilet was clogged. Helping hands from the owner and his father did not really do away with the problem and even a professional plumber coming two days later was clueless. So, even in the end of hour trip we had water coming out of the shower drain when we used the toilet or the sink.

The second problem was a leaking roof in the kids' bedroom which resulted in wet walls and linen after a stormy night. Again the owner and his father took care of it immediately but still it was quite inconvenient to us. Only advantage: the TV got rained upon and broke so that "unfortunately" our kids could no longer watch TV. We greatfully declined the offer to have the TV replaced.

The third problem which was disturbing us all through the whole length of our stay was the non-accessibility of the local WIFI network. There was kind of a misunderstanding as to where the WIFI was available and where not. From the original description I remembered that WIFI was available "near the main house". In my understanding this would also have included out apartment since it had a common wall with the main house. But in fact there was no WIFI reception at all. The problem became even more severe since there was hardly ANY reception of the mobile carriers in the apartment either. As a result we really had a hard time planning our day trips using the internet and we had extra expenses for the roaming required.

Owner's Response: Dear guest, I am very sorry for the inconvenients you experienced in our apartment I Calanchi. As I told you when you left we were planning to fix everything in the house and we are doing it. The roof has been completely replaced (it never happened before what happened to you and only during your staying we understood it needed to be taken care of). About the problem of the bathroom I remember it differently. It took three days and in the end it was fixed. In the meantime we offered you to use one of our bathrooms. That was the most we could do and we did it. We completely renewed the bathroom too. We are also changing all the furnitures and the kitchen. The apartment will be completely new in the end. About the wi-fi, the service was exactly in line with what written in the rules of the house, that says "wi-fi is not available in the apartment. It is available upon request and close to the main house" which, in my humble opinion, means my house. I am sorry fot the misunderstanding. Not my fault, though, in my opinion. Moreover I told you you could come to my house and use the wi-fi any time you needed, exactly as I said to all the other guests of the other apartments, who came to my house when they needed the connection. I also offered you my help for the planning of your trips. Not to take my offers and have additional expenses for the roaming was your decision. To have a good internet service at the house is not easy. We changed our provider three times in the last two years (with relevant costs) to try and get the best service as possible. Our house is quite isolated, not reached by some services. And yet we do anything we can to try and serve our guests at best. But we cannot make miracles. What we can have is a connection working quite well but with some limitations, especially in the amount of data per month (this also is - and was, at the time of your staying - written in the rules). And this is why we offer wi-fi only upon request and upon some rules (same for all our guests). Last but not least, about the lack of signal for mobile phones there is nothing I can do, sorry! We have the same problem in the main house. And again, not our fault.

Charming, rustic property in a great location and with terrific owners

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for two weeks June/July 2016. We loved it. We'd definitely recommend it and would go again. The apartment's in a rustic property (a former convent, then a farmhouse) that has been in the family since just after WW2. It's in a beautiful, historic (it has a war memorial) hillside location with a perfect, huge view across the plain. The apartment has a good feel to it and is spacious, simply but well appointed, comfortable and practical. There's plenty of storage, a good sized fridge, plenty of crockery and utensils, and everything worked. While there's no aircon, it has high ceilings, large windows and fans - we were there in a heatwave but it was no problem. There's plenty of outside space (teeming with wildlife - deer, hares, birds of prey, hoopoes) and a lovely, secluded pool. Domenico and his family have excellent language skills and really made us feel welcome. So helpful, always smiling and with little touches to show they care. They have excellent local knowledge (they live in nearby Bologna and use the property as their summer holiday home) and are keen to offer information about places to go. They gave us maps of walks around the area, and there was lots of information in the apartment. Needless to say, the area's fantastic and almost overburdened with things to see and do. Bologna's superb. Ravenna and Ferrara are smaller and beautiful. Venice is an easy day trip (by car or rail). Modena and Maranello give you their Ferrari fix. San Marino and the coast are in easy reach. The Po river at sunset is very beautiful. Dozza is a gorgeous village painted by artists. Brisighella is a characterful medieval hillside town. The driving and walking in the hills are glorious, and there's beautifully prepared food all over the place. We wouldn't hesitate to go there again - to the area and to this apartment. We had no disappointments at all, only great experiences and we loved staying at the apartment.

Owner's Response: Dear Deb & Jon, thank you for your super nice and comprehensive comment. Let me say you are the nicest guests we've ever had. Educated, respectful, kind and, moreover, friendly. It's been a true pleasure to provide you any help we could to make your holiday the best possible. You draw a great picture of the area around us, and you are right, there is plenty to see and enjoy here. About the apartment, we know we can better and we will keep doing our best to make our guests feel at their best. Hope to have you here again in the future. Ciao!

"The owners are charming and extremely helpful. The surroundings are beautiful. It''s a great place to relax and enjoy the Italian countryside. It''s a shame we were there for work, not for pleasure but we will definitely be back."

idéal pour grande famille

  • 5 of 5
