I brought a group of students in for the 2017 Presidential Inauguration and the Women's Rally. We rented both the 3 bedroom house and the 1 bedroom apartment below. Both units were well appointed, very comfortable, and very homelike. The location was superb, very close to several great restaurants, a grocery store, drug store, and the Metro. The owner was very accommodating before the trip, and worked with us in securing street parking permits before we arrived.
This was actually the second time a group from our school stayed here. We will definitely book again next time we are in D.C.!
Had all the amenities that we needed, complete with a functional kitchen for basic cooking.
The ceilings are very low in the kitchen however, and at 6ft tall I kept hitting my head. Even my partner was hitting her head! Not the fault of the owner, but something to be aware of.
Bed was comfortable and cozy, but very noisy. I literally couldn't get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night without making loud creaking and squeaking sounds from the wobbly bedframe. Some reinforcement may be in order!
Overall clean, cute, functional, and a perfect place to stay for a week!
My husband and I stayed for 5 days/nights at Derric Turner's apartment in Shepherd Street, Wash. DC. We were in DC for the annual American College of Surgeons meeting at the Convention Center downtown. Upon arrival, we found everything as described on the website and in our correspondence with the owner. The apt. is cozy, efficient, fully equipped, well-maintained/clean and nicely decorated; there was free and clearly-explained parking in front of the door. The owner was extremely helpful, very pleasant, and walked us through the apt. showing us how everything worked. In short he made our stay there a wonderful experience.
Its location is ideal, in a very quiet and friendly neighborhood: it is a less than a 10 min. walk from Georgia Street with among others a wonderful coffee house, Safeway supermarket, Metro. By Metro one is 6 stops away from the center of Wash. with all its sights and attractions.
We recommend the apt. very warmly!
very clean and updated
small and cozy
great appliances - washer/dryer, fridge, microwave
the main bed has a great mattress
the sofa bed is super comfortable
check in/check out was very convenient
derric was awesome throughout the entire process
feels like a home away from home
I read other reviews, but didn't realize until we got there that this was a renovated basement apartment. However, it was very convenient to town and the owner of the property has taken every step to ensure that his guests have what they need while they are there. The apartment itself has updated amenities and is very clean. The ceilings are low, so that may be something to consider for you and the bathroom is small, so if space is a true issue for you then you might consider another property. The neighbors were friendly, the location was convenient, METRO cards were provided as well as a parking pass. Shopping is nearby, Restaurants are nearby and the owner has provided delivery menus as well. There is a rear entrance which may make the parking situation a bit more convenient, but we never had to use it. Sleeping late is not an option for this property as the tenants downstairs can hear heavy foot sounds from the upstairs, but I read that ahead of time and brought a "Sleep Machine" to help drown out sounds. It did help with that some. Sleeping late was not our objective, however, so it worked out well for us. Thank you for the hospitality! My first visit to our nation's capital was an extremely pleasant one!
Great for a budget, short distance from DC, simple. Felt safe and comfortable. However, like the other reviews stated, the upstairs neighbors were loud and woke us up in the middle of the night. Otherwise, perfectly fine stay. Thanks!
