'Patagonia is an eclectic, funky, little artisan town that loves to be discovered.'

Step back... to a place steeped in the mining, ranching, and railroad history that built the West. Step back to a place where residents share stories at the post office and local businesses are still owned by local people... no traffic signals and no chain stores.

The Town of Patagonia is appropriately proud of its history and distinctive character. The community is quirky, warm and funky and likes it that way. Patagonia is filled with a surprising diversity of eccentric, creative, neighborly folks from all walks of life embodying a distinct 'Live and Let Live' feeling, while loving and celebrating what makes Patagonia so authentically itself.

Situated at just over 4,000 feet elevation, between the Santa Rita Mountains and the Patagonia Mountains, our village is nestled in the lush, extraordinarily bio-diverse riparian corridor of Sonoita Creek.

The area’s scenic beauty and unique ecology boast the greatest diversity of plant and animal species to be found in the US.

With its' favorable climate and a growing colony of artisans and artists, Patagonia is a soft, colorful spot in which to land and explore. Birders, fishermen and hikers share the streets with shoppers and art-lovers looking for that perfect and unique gift -- and everyone revels in the year-round delightful weather.

The casita is a special gal, and we're conscientiously stewarding her longevity by keeping her an adults-only space that is pet-free and smoke-free, with a maximum capacity of 2 adults. And, due to some neighborhood and property/amenity constraints, we're unable to accommodate guests traveling with RVs or motorcycles.

About Claire O'Connor

My husband Ken and I are co-adventurers who sold our house and belongings in Tucson, Arizona, USA to head off to a life of savoring, beauty, abundance and creative expression in France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and England.

After a year-and-a-half-plus of vagabonding, (including 13 months living in the Languedoc region of France), we're happily back in gorgeous, sunny southern Arizona. We're renovating a circa-1930s raw-mud adobe we just bought in the sweet Mountain Empire village of arts-y Patagonia, AZ. (An adventure in itself!)

Ken is a Hospice Chaplain and Director of Hospice Volunteer Services, and a retired Methodist minister (though of the spiritual-not-religious variety). He also has a part-time private practice as a pastoral counselor and workshop leader specializing in working with men around issues of conscious living/ aging/dying/legacy-creation.

I'm an artist and a facilitator of women's creativity and personal growths groups, classes and retreats. We both love meeting interesting and curious-minded folks from all over the world.

We invite you to check out our sweet little 475-square-foot 1-bedroom/1-bath private casita at the back of our property. We've set it up as a perfect little self-contained, short-term vacation rental. We'd be delighted if you'd like to book a stay while exploring our little corner of paradise!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for allowing me to enjoy your colorful casita! As a traveling artist, I stay in vacation rentals a lot and this has been the best place of all! I absolutely love the way you decorated it, it came from the heart—and I'm sure there is a lot of YOU inside this sweet, happy and bright little place! There was nothing you didn't think of as far as necessities here, right down to the bandaids (which I needed)! Thank you!

I will always have great memories of my stay here and I'll be talking about this place and showing photos of it to all my friends. Thank you for checking in with me to see that I had everything I needed; that alone was like the treatment I get when I stay at a 5-Star hotel! You really know what you're doing!

Magic in Patagonia

  • 5 of 5

This is the place to come to get out of your head and plug in to real life. Claire and Ken's places are off-the-charts darling, and truly magical -- even my "ex-Marine Sergeant" husband loved it. Great beds, comfy, and all you could want in terms of conveniences The town of Patagonia is colorful, full of friendly people, very walkable in terms of good restaurants, and central to countless day trips you might want to take, as well as hiking. If you are as lucky as Thornton Wilder, your car may break down and you could stay here for a year and a half. The week we were there it was school break for Patagonia Schools and there was alot of internet traffic on Century Link -- we used to have their service in Minnesota and the same thing would happen there -- it could get slow during the day. However, we had very little difficulty in plugging into our favorite shows on Amazon in the evenings, which worked great. Just a reminder -- this is a place to go to truly get away from the phony insanity of everyday life in the urban US -- it's a place to de-toxify and take care of yourself. Try it and see for yourself.

Lovely simple and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This small house was perfect for my husband and I. Beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed and bedding, and the whole place is super clean. The kitchen was well equipped with teas, good knives, openers, etc. (though we hardly cooked). Claire's decorating sense is beautiful. Being a few minutes walk into the "town" was great...to walk for morning coffee, to the restaurants, etc. Would stay there again.

Lovely home in a cozy and inviting village

  • 5 of 5

Casita encanta had everything a visitor could want - lots of helpful information, the lights were put on for our late arrival; all needed supplies plus extras and a very charmingly decorated and furnished small home. Everything was comfortable and colourful. We did not expect to enjoy Patagonia as much as we did - everyone was very welcoming - we were offered a tour of the library - which is excellent - help at the Post Office, yummies from the Bakery and Red Mountain Foods, etc. Highlights were the Pason Hummingbird Centre with tons of various birds and friendly birders, bird books and Audobon operator and the Sonoita Creek Preserve with friendly volunteer conservationists. Constant sun, cool, starry evenings, a thoroughly enjoyable February break from rainy west Coast. Oh, and we are enjoying the wooden flute made by local company, High Spirits bought in local store.

A Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our visit was a peace filled respite after 5 days at the Tucson Gem Show. Casita Encanta is indeed enchanting. You have not missed a single detail to provide us with a wonderful stay. We also greatly enjoyed our introduction to Patagonia with its Nature Conservancy preserve, the Arizona Trail, the many roads to explore and even Tubac nearby. Of course, the heavenly climate and birds were wonderful as well especially in contrast to our current weather back here in northern Vermont. Memories of Casita and Patagonia will help to sustain us until the snow melts here.

Chic and comfy Casita!

  • 5 of 5

I chose the Casita as my "base camp" for exploring and hiking SE AZ.

It was a great choice. The casita was artsy, colorful, eclectic, perfectly practical, laid-back, in other words....SO Patagonia!

I stay in 3-4 AirBnB/VRBO accommodations each year and the communication and information provided by Ken and Claire was by far the most comprehensive, helpful and welcoming I have ever received from an owner.

The Casita was quiet, in a cute residential neighborhood, and quite functional in every way. The bed was super-comfy. Westin's "Heavenly Bed" has nothing on this place!

Coming and going was easy; the kitchenette was perfect for anything I needed. A cupboard with a coffee maker, filters, coffee and teas was appreciated!

I was traveling "solo" and the amount of space I had was ideal. Easy, comfortable, secure, and great owners!!

Thanks Ken and Claire!

Excellent accommodations in Patagonia, AZ.

  • 5 of 5

The Casita Encanta is a lovely & comfortable space. Everything we needed was available and in its proper place. It is an easy place to be. There were no annoying distractions in the neighborhood. Restaurants & shops are within walking distance. We had a relaxing, pleasant few nights there and recommend it without reservation.
