ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD
'Patagonia is an eclectic, funky, little artisan town that loves to be discovered.'
Step back... to a place steeped in the mining, ranching, and railroad history that built the West. Step back to a place where residents share stories at the post office and local businesses are still owned by local people... no traffic signals and no chain stores.
The Town of Patagonia is appropriately proud of its history and distinctive character. The community is quirky, warm and funky and likes it that way. Patagonia is filled with a surprising diversity of eccentric, creative, neighborly folks from all walks of life embodying a distinct 'Live and Let Live' feeling, while loving and celebrating what makes Patagonia so authentically itself.
Situated at just over 4,000 feet elevation, between the Santa Rita Mountains and the Patagonia Mountains, our village is nestled in the lush, extraordinarily bio-diverse riparian corridor of Sonoita Creek.
The area’s scenic beauty and unique ecology boast the greatest diversity of plant and animal species to be found in the US.
With its' favorable climate and a growing colony of artisans and artists, Patagonia is a soft, colorful spot in which to land and explore. Birders, fishermen and hikers share the streets with shoppers and art-lovers looking for that perfect and unique gift -- and everyone revels in the year-round delightful weather.
My husband Ken and I are co-adventurers who sold our house and belongings in Tucson, Arizona, USA to head off to a life of savoring, beauty, abundance and creative expression in France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and England.
After a year-and-a-half-plus of vagabonding, (including 13 months living in the Languedoc region of France), we're happily back in gorgeous, sunny southern Arizona. We're renovating a circa-1930s raw-mud adobe we just bought in the sweet Mountain Empire village of arts-y Patagonia, AZ. (An adventure in itself!)
Ken is a Hospice Chaplain and Director of Hospice Volunteer Services, and a retired Methodist minister (though of the spiritual-not-religious variety). He also has a part-time private practice as a pastoral counselor and workshop leader specializing in working with men around issues of conscious living/ aging/dying/legacy-creation.
I'm an artist and a facilitator of women's creativity and personal growths groups, classes and retreats. We both love meeting interesting and curious-minded folks from all over the world.
We invite you to check out our sweet little 475-square-foot 1-bedroom/1-bath private casita at the back of our property. We've set it up as a perfect little self-contained, short-term vacation rental. We'd be delighted if you'd like to book a stay while exploring our little corner of paradise!
Claire O'Connor purchased this cabin in 2014
We loved our stay at the Casita Encanta. Claire made us feel right at home making sure that we had everything we needed. The place was beautiful and so colorfully decorated! It was located so conveniently as well. We walked everywhere we needed to go in Patagonia.
This delightful casita was the perfect place to getaway to. It was comfortable, cozy and convenient. Just a short walk to restaurants, bars, and shops. I will definitely return to this beautiful casita.
Clean and bright accommodations. Owner is very responsive. Best rate and a great place. Everything you need is in waling distance. Lots, and lots of trails to hike. Several fun events 20 minutes east in Sonoita, and 20 minutes west in Lake Patagonia. I will definitely stay here again.
Such a warm and inviting, cozy place to stay! The bright colors were so refreshing! We loved the size, it was perfect for us! Loved being able to make some meals and it had everything we needed! It was so close to the places we wanted to go bird watching! We even found a gluten free coffee shop in Patagonia to have lunch at!
This was our second stay in Casita Encanta. Claire and Ken keep an amazingly clean, well stocked and perfectly enjoyable home away from home for their guests. We love the décor. We have been in Patagonia in September and now in March. As an avid nature photographer, we are always out hiking, looking for the perfect shot. At the end of a long day Casita Encanta is comfortable and has many of the amenities of home. We especially loved being able to grill a steak and have a wonderful home cooked meal.
I didn't spend that much time in Patagonia, but this little suite was exactly what I could have hoped for. The owners were gracious and flexible, and put in all the extra, sweet effort you could hope for.
Really clean, well kept, and very pleasant to stay in.
My husband and I enjoyed this lovely home in Patagonia, Az. Owners Claire and Ken have done an imaginative, professional job on the architecture and decorating of this comfy, private, and safe home. They are very attentive to their renters without being intrusive in any way. We hope to return for another delightful week for there is plenty to explore in the numerous nature parks and the Casita is a delightful home base.
