I booked this apartment for an Autumn break for my parents. They arrived very late after managing to get a little lost on what should have been a very short journey from Nice airport to Villefranche. However Pierre and Sylvia waited for them and gave them a lovely warm welcome on their arrival. The apartment is immaculate with stunning views and my parents will definitely return. Thank you so much for ensuring they had a wonderful stay.
This is a surprisingly well located (apart from the noise issue - see below) establishment set in a lovely garden, especially welcome where land is so tight and so expensive. The pool, the staff, the on-site snack bar (good, fairly priced food) the lift (there are 6 floors!), walking distance to both Villefranche and Bieulieu sur Mer centres (say 15/20 minutes to either) are all elements of a potentially super holiday. However .......
When it came to this apartment (which we found was private and not in the gift of the management) we were quickly ready to move to a hotel or fly back home on day one. To be fair the view was brilliant and the little balcony area very pleasant and it was, mostly, adequately equipped and clean. How much better it all could have been. How? First, by a more thoughtful welcome. One dishwasher tablet, a teaspoonful of washing up liquid with not even a bottle of water as a welcome pack and a few throwaway lines like " Either you clean before you leave or it will cost (a significant amount in €s)" did not endear us to it. Nor were we impressed by having to make up the bed. Not an easy task - see below. Oh, and, yes, there is a safe but, no, there is no key so no safe, French shrug. Second, by providing more accurate and helpful information including, for example, on buses and shopping, rather than just relying on gushing but inaccurate TripAdvisor reviews - it most certainly is not "two minutes to the most attractive part of Villefranche beach". And, finally, that bed. The complex is situated between the railway and the road, just by a matter of yards from both. The racket is constant and it would take a lot more substantial insulation before a night's sleep would be possible. But even then the room into which the bed was squeezed would be unacceptable. The mattress is hard up against two walls, with a chair, leaving only 6 inches of space. There is no mattress cover (hygiene?), the pillows are down (asthma???) and well past their best as were the sheets etc. Honteaux or what? We did not get a single good night's sleep. We stuck it out having travelled over two days but then stayed only because of the view. There are big pros and cons to staying at l'Ange Guardien but the cons should be much better managed. We will not be back.

This apartment is perfectly located to enjoy everything Villefranche has to offer. It's just a couple of minute's walk to the best part of the beach - the bay is heavenly to swim in and is perfectly safe for young children - and is a pleasant 15-minute stroll around the bay to the old part of the town. The apartment is basic but has everything you could need – it is comfortable and clean, there's a private terrrace where you can dine alfresco and watch the cruise ships in the bay, and the owners could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The pool area was busy but still quiet and relaxing, and nothing was too much trouble for the friendly lady and her young son at the pool bar. Most of the clientele were French and seemed to own their own apartment at the complex, so there was a friendly atmosphere where people seemed to know one another from previous holidays there – we certainly didn't have to put up with any riff-raff. We are planning to return to Villefranche next year as it's so lovely – much nicer than Nice and Cannes.
