Fabulous rambling contemporary home in Les Baux, near Maussane and St Rémy

Bedrooms 4
Space 3,200 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 14 nights

About the property

Beautiful 4 bedroom 4 bath family home in stunning landscape with heated pool.

Our beautiful single storey home is built around a shady central courtyard but has views in all directions. There are four bedrooms, four bathrooms (three of which are ensuite). The living room has glass walls on two sides opening onto the covered terraces and the wonderful views over the garden, the heated pool and beyond. The huge kitchen, light and airy, also has huge sliding doors onto the covered terrace; the kitchen table seats ten and there is also a fully equipped back kitchen (walk in pantry).

A large dining room opens both into the courtyard and out to the garden and olive grove (table seats ten).

There is also a television room and a laundry.

The courtyard is also equipped with seating and another dining table, as are the covered terraces, allowing for many different possibilities depending on the weather or your mood.

The 15 x 5 metre heated salt water mosaic tiled swimming pool is surrounded by the olive trees and the views of the rocky hills surrounding the property are sublime.

My husband's architectural practice is next door to the house which means there is a source of information available during office hours in the week. The office in no way impinges on the house.

About Ann Price

I moved to Provence with my husband David in 1989, from London. We immediately fell in love with the area, our children were born here, and in a blink twenty-seven years have passed!

Ann Price purchased this house in 2003

Why Ann Price chose Fontvieille

We lived previously in Paradou - all of 5km away! - and wanted find a house in the hills. When we arrived at the entrance we were so taken with the views we said we would buy it without even seeing the house. You will see what I mean when you get here!

What makes this house unique

This is a really wonderful spot, spectacular scenery, total peace and quiet and yet only minutes from a hot cup of coffee and croissant in our local village!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved this villa. We loved everything about it. The layout of the house itself. The comfortable furnishings. The well kept grounds. The refreshing swimming pool, although we were there for the hottest June in French history, and we loved the local area. Everything was perfect.

We are a group of four couples who each year rent a villa in Provence, enjoy a riotous week of overindulgence in fine food, wine and exploring local markets. We’ve done the Luberon, the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes. This villa in the Bouche-du-Rhone was one of our best choices. Grand Suspiron is a family home, designed by the owner architect and looked after by his very attentive wife. Our correspondence could not have been warmer or more helpful. The care with which they have furnished the home, supplied guests with every possible item to make their holiday a dream come true is apparent. We were all adults who like to cook together. The kitchen was more than ample for eight enthusiastic chefs. We all like our privacy with all the bedrooms ensuite, we had our hours on conviviality and our private time, too.

I would highly recommend the villa to both families and adults. Go, have a great time,

but be warned you’ll want to return as we hope to next year.

An beautifully designed home on a lovely proprerty, well situated for touring.

This is a quintessential Provence home, well suited for three or four couples or a large family. The bedrooms are comfortable and attractive. The large, modern kitchen and stunning open air veranda provided for perfect evenings of lingering dinners overlooking olive trees, a beautifully landscaped garden and good sized pool. The hosts, Anne and David Price, were welcoming and helpful. Our group of seven couldn't have hoped for a better location for our Provence vacation.

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our time at Ann & David Price's beautiful home in Les Baux was absolutely wonderful. Ann and David were the best hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable by adding many extra touches. The home was in the middle of an olive grove, with lovely gardens surrounded by rocky hills. Each window overlooked olive trees, beautiful porches or the courtyard. The house was extremely comfortable. All the rooms were large, perfectly furnished, and with a well appointed kitchen. I have rented many houses in Europe and found the Price's home and their hospitality to be the most welcoming.

The location was perfect for day trips throughout Provence. There were so many beautiful locations and small villages in and around Les Baux. We were very pleased with the restaurants in the small nearby village of Maussane which also had wonderful shops in which to by produce, cheese, meats and breads.

The countryside is gorgeous and having a car is a must so that you can enjoy its beauty.

Wonderful relaxing vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a truly idyllic location, with wonderful terraces from which to really take advantage of the views! The house had everything you could want, we like to cook and had everything and more that we would have had at home.

The owners were very welcoming and ideal in terms of oversight. Not in the least intrusive but very responsive when we needed something and more than willing to share ideas and suggestions.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this house as a base for exploring this beautiful piece of Provence or just as a place to relax completely and live life at a different pace.

Just beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful Provence house. We loved the design of the house which mixes contemporary with traditional Provencal architecture. The grounds were huge with beautiful landscaping and many types of fruit trees. We loved that the house was relatively isolated but still within reach of some great places. We drove into Mausanne each morning for our daily supplies (and enjoyed dinner on the terrace each evening), enjoyed cocktails at La Domaine de Manville, and the light show at Les Baux. All of these are just a five/ten minute drive away. So many other places are easily reachable for day-trips (Arles, Avignon, Aix). The house was very comfortable and the hosts, Ann and David, provided everything we needed (restaurant advice...toilet roll, kitchen roll, spices etc) and were very friendly and helpful. Provence is one of my favorite places on earth and this house was the perfect place to enjoy it.

The hosts were incredibly helpful and the house was excellent in a stunning setting. The house is spacious, modern, well equipped yet charming as well. The pool and surrounding gardens were beautiful. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a slice of paradise in Provence.

Brilliant holiday

  • 5 of 5

Many thanks Ann for making our stay a memorable one, the House is just fantastic and fully equipped with everything we could have needed. The location is excellent for getting around Provence. Arles is lovely and so much roman material around. We loved watching the wild boar at the end of the road. Les Baux-de-Provence and Maussane-les-Alpilles being particular highlights.

Our property is set nestled and hidden in the heart of the Alpilles hills, at the very centre of Roman Provence. The property is surrounded by olive trees and beyond these are pines and rocky outcrops on all sides. A shady central courtyard is perfect for lunch or supper outdoors and there are extensive covered terraces around the living areas. We are a short drive from St Rémy and from Arles, both bursting with history. The Alpilles are studded with small villages all with different characters and attractions. Our local villages of Maussane and le Paradou, just five minutes in the car, are full of excellent local bakers, butchers, grocers, restaurants that we'll be happy to point you towards. The house is perfectly situated to make the most of the many historical sites and villages or just perfect for chilling out by the pool. Arles still uses both its Roman arena and theatre for shows and events of all sorts. There are markets on different days in all the local villages where you can buy an almost infinite array of local produce from cheeses to olives and even to live chickens. These markets are a must in summer, bursting with colour, produce and new discoveries.
