Beautifully restored, guest home in Petersburg, Kentucky overlooking the majestic Ohio River. Built in the 1850's this was once the home of riverboat captain Perry McNeely. The house is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the Creation Museum and only 30 miles from Cincinnati, Ohio. Our home is ideal for extended families that want to spend their vacation time together. Relax and enjoy each other's company!
Greetings! I'm the mother of two girls, both homeschool graduates. The Creation Museum has played a big part in our lives over the years and our oldest daughter was married there in 2013! We enjoy hosting families as they come together from different parts of the country to visit the museum and spend time together. I look forward to helping you make your stay in Petersburg a cherished memory for your own family!
Tara Bentley purchased this house in 2014
This spacious and historic home is the perfect resting spot for your family's visit to the Creation Museum.
This quaint, historic house was once the home to Captain Perry McNeely and his family. The Captain and his wife had 12 children and all four boys went on to be Captains as well. Their home faces the beautiful Ohio River and you can imagine wifey and the children watching the river for Captain to return home. You family will love spending time together in this home. With open space flowing between the living room, dining room, and nook space… you'll have room to gather together for meals, games and late night conversations. The loft room is perfect for children to play together!
We stayed at the Captain's Quarters for 5 days. It was 8 of us and there were PLENTY of beds! We enjoyed our stay there. It was very close to the Creation Museum and about 45 minutes from the Ark. Each evening we looked forward to coming back to the house to relax and enjoy some family time. The only issue we had was having to coordinate the shower schedule . We knew this before, but only one of the bathrooms had a shower and the other just a tub. Otherwise it was a gorgeous historic house that was very comfortable. Thank you so much! We would definitely recommend the Captain's Quarters to anyone looking for a place to stay!
Petersburg is a sweet town that's just perfect if you want to take a walk to work off your snacking or just gaze at the river! Most of us live within 20 miles and just wanted to do a quick getaway. Thirteen ladies (scrapbookers, crocheters and knitters) came to de-stress, laugh and snack our way through projects. We had a blast! The home is beautiful, kitchen is perfect for a potluck of yummy goodies. We loved it!
The Captain's Quarters met all of our family's needs. We had a combination of 3 families, 5 adults and 5 teenagers. There was room for everyone to sleep and get ready in the morning. The only downfall was that there was not large enough pans to cook for a large crowd at one time. We made it work though and really enjoyed the home. We had one incident with the dishwasher but Tara had it fixed very quickly and it didn't interrupt our stay at all. We also enjoyed watching the riverboats across the road. The Ark Encounter was an amazing experience and having a nice home to come back too made it even better. Thank you for sharing your home.
The house was very clean and spacious. Coming from living in the country, this house, located on the edge of town, was private enough especially with the enclosed yard. The park across the street and access to the Ohio River made a good short walk for us in the evening. No complaints, but a shower unit in the 2nd bathroom would be preferred over the tub. However, a few of the kids had fun trying it out.
I went with 13 members of our family including 8 grandchildren and we all loved the house, even the grandchildren commented how much they loved it and wished they lived there. Loved the old charm of the floors, doors and architecture with the modern kitchen. Had a great yard for the kids to play in, except for the mosquitos they would have enjoyed it more. There was plenty of room for all of us. The location was nice with the river across the road from us. We were able to walk down there and let the kids learn to skip rocks. They loved going down there. It was fun knowing that a different state, Indiana, was on the other side of the river bank. There was a large tree in the space across the street that had a hollowed space in it that the kids found a message in a bottle left by previous renters. That was a fun moment for them. The house is close to the creation museum, which is why we were there. The only thing was the drive to the house from the museum was very curvy and hilly in spots making the passengers a little nervous, especially with me driving, and with large dump trucks driving fast through there made it a little dangerous so use caution driving there. We spent most of our days at the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter so the kids were disappointed we didn't spend one whole day at the house. It was a fun memory making trip for all of us. One that we will remember for a lifetime. I would highly recommend this house and if we ever go back we would love to stay there again
