Why Tara Bentley chose Kentucky

This spacious and historic home is the perfect resting spot for your family's visit to the Creation Museum.

What makes this house unique

This quaint, historic house was once the home to Captain Perry McNeely and his family. The Captain and his wife had 12 children and all four boys went on to be Captains as well. Their home faces the beautiful Ohio River and you can imagine wifey and the children watching the river for Captain to return home. You family will love spending time together in this home. With open space flowing between the living room, dining room, and nook space… you'll have room to gather together for meals, games and late night conversations. The loft room is perfect for children to play together!

Disappointed!

  • 1 of 5

We were disappointed about the condition of the vacation home to say the least. The lovely claw-foot bathtub faucet leaked all over the floor so that you couldn't use it, several of the beds, the "king" on the second floor was thin foam so that you could feel the slats in the base of the bed, I had to sleep on a twin bed instead, the thin foam mattress on the bunk bed both bottom and top were very uncomfortable, and my sister had to sleep on the couch instead. There is a hole in the floor up-stairs, the shower faucet handle fell off in my hand, the hot water wasn't working in the bathroom sink, and for the cherry on the cake, and details do matter to guests, the frying pans were so cheep that everything you fried burned and stuck to the pan. What was most amazing, is that the visitors book was full of nice comments, not one negative one was to be found. It appeared that pages had been ripped from the book, likely from the negative comments guests left. I'm guessing that my comment page was ripped from it too. For the price you pay, it was not worth it!

I would recommend this as a great place to stay! It's just like the pictures show!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8 enjoyed 3 nights at the Captains Quarters. We had breakfast there every morning and supper twice. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, there was even coffee in the cupboard ! We made use of the crockpot too and had hot food waiting for us when we got back from our sightseeing. The place is around 45 minutes to the Ark, and about 15 from the Creation Museum. There is only one store in Petersburg, though so if you arrive late , make sure you pick up what you need before you get there..it was colder there than we southerners were used to but the heater kept the house cozy! We even managed with only 2 bathrooms although we had to stagger our hot water usage so we wouldn't run out! Overall it was a perfect place for our family Christmas and Tara was so kind as to keep in touch. I'm sure if we would've had problems, she would've been prompt to help!

Enjoyed our time at the Captain's Quarters

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Captain's Quarters for 5 days. It was 8 of us and there were PLENTY of beds! We enjoyed our stay there. It was very close to the Creation Museum and about 45 minutes from the Ark. Each evening we looked forward to coming back to the house to relax and enjoy some family time. The only issue we had was having to coordinate the shower schedule . We knew this before, but only one of the bathrooms had a shower and the other just a tub. Otherwise it was a gorgeous historic house that was very comfortable. Thank you so much! We would definitely recommend the Captain's Quarters to anyone looking for a place to stay!

Crafters Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Petersburg is a sweet town that's just perfect if you want to take a walk to work off your snacking or just gaze at the river! Most of us live within 20 miles and just wanted to do a quick getaway. Thirteen ladies (scrapbookers, crocheters and knitters) came to de-stress, laugh and snack our way through projects. We had a blast! The home is beautiful, kitchen is perfect for a potluck of yummy goodies. We loved it!

Family trip to the Ark Encounter.

  • 5 of 5

The Captain's Quarters met all of our family's needs. We had a combination of 3 families, 5 adults and 5 teenagers. There was room for everyone to sleep and get ready in the morning. The only downfall was that there was not large enough pans to cook for a large crowd at one time. We made it work though and really enjoyed the home. We had one incident with the dishwasher but Tara had it fixed very quickly and it didn't interrupt our stay at all. We also enjoyed watching the riverboats across the road. The Ark Encounter was an amazing experience and having a nice home to come back too made it even better. Thank you for sharing your home.
