About John Kissel

I have lived in the Indiana / Kentucky / Tennessee area all my life and have always appreciated the beauty this area of the country has to offer. Currently living in Indianapolis, this property is a frequent get-away for me and provides access to all the area has to offer.

John Kissel purchased this house in 2014

Why John Kissel chose Dandridge

Owning a log home in the mountains has been a 15+ year dream. With both mountain views and lake-front access, this home gave me the rustic charm, newer / modern amenities and access to the hobbies I love.

What makes this house unique

Privacy and peace-quiet in a planned community. The home was built in 2005 along with many of the properties in the area. Home contains features that guests and travelers welcome such as a boat dock, fishing, in-house games and entertainment, and the beauty of a star-lit night sky. Home is spacious and provides ample room for large families, or several families that want to share a vacation property. In-room bathrooms provide the privacy when needed while common areas allow for gatherings to make a meal or other forms of entertainment.

Three large covered decks provide tables, porch swings, cooking grill, rocking chairs, and a hot tub for activities that can last all day.

Local attractions include Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, outlet mall shopping, golf, marinas, white-water rafting, and the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. Motorcycling or sports cars can take advantage of mountain roads and the Blue Ridge Parkway, about 50 miles to the Southeast.

Fans of Nascar can see the race at Bristol or football fans can patronize the Tennessee Vols.

With Knoxville's downtown about 40 miles to the west with dining, brew pubs and entertainment, evening entertainment is not hard to find.

Boaters can enjoy exploring the local TVA lakes

such as Cherokee, Douglas, Norris, Tellico and others.

Gorgeous setting, fabulous cabin

  • 5 of 5

We have never stayed in the Douglas Lake area, usually closer to Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. I was so impressed with this area and neighborhood we will probably always stay here from now on. It was a quick trip to all the attractions but far enough away to be out of the crazy traffic. The lake views were gorgeous. 11 family members for the Thanksgiving holiday and we had plenty of room, a fully stocked kitchen, and everything we needed. The teenagers loved the pool and ping pong table, we had fires in the fire pit each night, enjoyed front and back porch swings, hot tub, bathrooms for each bedroom. The house was private from surrounding cabins and had beautiful Mountain View’s without the crazy windy roads some cabins have. John, the owner, was quick to respond to all my questions and more than accommodating to all my requests. We can’t wait to book again for a summer trip to enjoy the lake more!

Very spacious and clean

  • 5 of 5

We rented this for my brother's bachelor party. It was very spacious and clean when we arrived. It had plenty of room for 9 guys to spread out and hang out all weekend. The view can't be beat and it is very quiet without other cabins being right on top of you. The two floors and four rooms each with beds and showers made the space for all 9 of us feel very room. The free wifi and flat screen TV's were a big hit as well. Would recommend to others looking for a very nice place to stay in or near Gatlinburg.

a beautiful treehouse

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was a big hit with the entire family. Great space, beautiful views, and the illusion of a lakeside treehouse from the back. With two king size rooms on each floor, everyone was comfortable. We loved it! Thanks for sharing your home with us John!

Great view and plenty of room for our family

  • 5 of 5

Cabin has a great layout for multiple family's (4 master bedroom with king beds). Also, the two decks offered spectacular views of Douglas lake and plenty of space to eat out. Our family also had a great time fishing and swimming in the cove. The dock was also very convienant.

Bigger than it looks and well equipped, quiet cove.

  • 4 of 5

My extended family recently stayed here and really enjoyed our time. There were 10 of us.

The road that the house is on is a bit twisty, so beware if you get motion sickness as 1 of our guests had a rough time. The front porch swing is comfy as well as a back porch swing. The ceilings were high and the place was beautifully made with rich wood floors and ceilings. Decor was a nice cabin rustic. The kitchen has a nice eating area on the island as well as large table. We also ate at the back porch table. Each room had access to a deck with a view. The rooms were large and well equipped with plenty of towels and sheets, even hand soap. The kitchen was also well equipped with just about anything we needed including condiments. There were 2 large holding tanks for water and so the water didn't taste great, but the filtered fridge door water dispenser helped with that. They also had a Brita pitcher in the fridge. The water pressure for showers was weak but adequate. You just can't really take a shower if someone else is taking one. Each room came with it's own bathroom. The sinks were outside of the shower/bath room which was convenient for multiple people using the same room. The "murphy bed" is really just a 1 person cot for a smaller person. We didn't use it. Instead we used the pullout sofas. We didn't use the jacuzzi's. We did use the hot tub and it was fine. The downstairs rooms had a couple problems with doors not latching closed, so we put door stops against them. The owner was going to have someone come and fix that after we left as well as a loose shower faucet repair. The walk down to the lake was steep even with using the provided 4 wheeler. A couple of us fell when we walked down and got a little scraped up on the hands. Older guests did not want to travel down the steep hill. It did provide a nice workout for climbing the hill though which some didn't mind. The view from the back porches was beautiful. There were games available for rainy days as well as the pool table and ping pong. The downstairs mini kitchen was also useful with a full size fridge and sink area. It was a quiet place even though the house sat close to the road. The neighbor who shares the dock was very nice and was not around much at all. My nephew enjoyed exploring the cove and fishing. We brought our jet boat and had a great time with the water sports. You can't beat Douglas Lake - quiet, big and deep.

Awesome!

Everything was amazing, only down side was the trail to the dock. It was steep and windy.

Owner's Response: Hi Julie - thank you for taking the time to submit a review; I really appreciate it. The lane is indeed a little steep, which is why I include the ATV for the summer/boating months. Hope that helped you and your family!
