Excellent location close to amenities; smell of residual cigarette smoke; visitor parking issues

  • 2 of 5

The unit is on the third floor of an essentially waterfront 16 floor apartment building and faces east with a nice view towards the St Lawrence River, RMC and Fort Henry. Underground parking had easy access and exit. There’s areas for dog walking (we had our small dog with us) and good coffee shops, pubs and restaurants, all within 5 blocks or less. The heart of Queen’s University is probably no more than 10 minutes away by foot. The unit is nicely sized and well laid out; 2 large bedrooms, each with its own 3-piece bathroom flank the living-dining and kitchen areas. The bed we slept in was quite comfortable. A small den which we never used, sits off the main entrance. Deidre, the owner, indicated that her unit was treated as a private condo although the rest of the building appeared to be rental units occupied by young professionals, older students and retirees. All in all, a nice, clean building located in a great area of the city.

However, there was a residual smell of cigarette smoke in the unit to the point that we had to re-locate a planned meal for 9 people to another location. We had also planned to have our son and daughter-in-law stay over for a week-end but they had to leave the unit at 3 am the first morning for a near-by hotel due to her asthma. Had my wife or I suffered from allergies or asthma, we would not have been able to stay in the unit.

The unit was very “personal” with family pictures, various framed portraits etc.. and small and large knick-knacks spread throughout and one would have thought the owner would try to depersonalize the unit a bit before renting it. The furniture and rugs were quite dated; I had to buy a wrench and tighten the legs of the dining room table before it collapsed, move a small couch with a broken leg to the bedroom since no-one could sit on it and borrow a tv from a near-by relative since only one of 3 tvs’ worked adequately.

A day before our departure the owner told us there had been a complaint by about too many people in the unit (the most we had was 7 for an evening- there were no “late” nights) and too much taken up with visitors’ parking. Visitor vehicles needed appropriate permits; we used one space for a total of 4 nights throughout the 3 weeks and the vehicle was permitted, although the lot (about 15 total spaces) was at least half taken by vehicles which had no permit on the dash. This confused us.

These issues, particularly the residual smell of cigarette smoke certainly soured our stay

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Great for more than one couple, it perfectly suited our needs visiting our daughter at Queen's. A perfect location with regard to both the university and downtown (walking distance). And with free parking on site.

Our host was very helpful with our questions and we felt very welcome.

If we should return to Kingston one day, we will definitely be checking availabilty for this cozy condo first.

We loved our stay in this apartment. The location was perfect for us, right downtown and overlooking the water. The apt. was comfortably furnished and well equipped, and Deirdre was very accommodating when we asked for a couple of things. The building amenities were wonderful, mostly located on the top ie 16th floor (Laundry, gym, party room.) But the most awesome was the outdoor terrace, almost all around with amazing views of the city and lake. What a place to barbecue and happy hour !! We'd love to return to this beautiful place.

Great condo with a convenient location and great view.

  • 5 of 5

Condo was very clean, nicely furnished and conveniently located within walking distance to the downtown Kingston area. The building had laundry facilities, a billiard room, under-the-building parking and easy but secure access when returning from walking. The condo and generally the entire building was very quiet which we really appreciated.

We would give this location and the owner a big thumbs up! A great place to stay in order to enjoy Kingston and the surrounding areas.

Nice apartment, 2 full bathrooms a big plus, excellent location. The host was kind enough to let us extend our stay for a couple of days when we needed to remain in Kingston due to family circumstances. Thank you!
