Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Exomvourgo - Crossroads Inn

Live like a local in the Traditional Cycladic village of Tripotamos

'Crossroads Inn' is categorized as 'Traditional Lodgings'. It is located within the traditional village of Tripotamos, on the island of Tinos. The 'hotel' consists of listed, traditional buildings which are part of the connective tissue of the housing settlement and of its society. The main goal of the restoration of these buildings was to preserve them and showcase their capacity to take on a new kind of use, becoming traditional lodgings and offering a comfortable stay within the island’s heartland.

As it so richly deserved, the restoration of the “Crossroads Inn” traditional buildings was served exclusively by human hands which retained the hollow shells of the buildings and lovingly reused the old Tinian schist stones that came from sections of the buildings that had to be removed or restructured. In choosing our materials, we were guided by how friendly they were to their traditional environment’s older buildings, by how well they could stand against the village’s climate conditions, and by whether they were certified as eco-friendly. The outer shells of the buildings stayed in place and the treasure of their inner space that was “hiding” within for so long proved adequate in accommodating the new uses intended for them. The old furniture was repaired and was given a new home in our traditional lodgings next to the works of art by Tinian artists decorating the lodgings’ interior.

Tripotamos, a listed traditional Cycladic village where the lodgings of the “Crossroads Inn” are located, is the first village on the way to the island’s heartland, at a distance of 5 km from the town of Tinos. Behind the village, to the north, you are gazing at the dominant, bare Rock of Exombourgo where the ruins of the medieval city of Tinos and the traces of earlier cities dating back to the Prehistoric and Geometric Eras are located. To the south, you are gazing at the Monastery of Aghia Pelagia, the Aegean Sea, and the island cluster of Delos.

The whitewashed housing clusters of Tripotamos and of the neighboring village of Sberados, together with the old school between the two villages, the dovecots (columbaria), and the Rock of Exombourgo, compose a landscape of such beauty and vibrant harmony that it takes your breath away. They herald the enthralling vistas that await you in the heartland of the island of Tinos where, with your eyes and heart wide open, you will be able to drink in the innermost nature of Tinos as the island unfolds it before you.

Tripotamos is in the center of the island’s heartland with easy access to all of Tinos’ traditional villages and beaches. It is barely 7 km away from the inviting beaches of Aghios Fokas, Kionia, and Aghios Romanos and 10 km away from those of Kalyvia and Kolymbithra.

The villages of Ktikados, Chatzirados, and Karya, where visitors can find traditional taverns, are at a distance shorter than 1.5 km from Tripotamos. The nearest grocery store is on the central road leading to the town of Tinos, 3.5 km away from Tripotamos. The gas stations nearest to Tripotamos are to be found on the same road, 3 km away from Tripotamos.

About Ourania Diamantopoulou

My feelings, not unlike those of a passionate lover, not unlike those of a possessive mistress, over the energy and the experiences that echo like concealed secrets within old buildings led me to the decision to try and breathe new life into them, respecting all the while their accrued worth that the passage of time had endowed them with. The project’s result surpassed even the loftiest of my expectations. It proved a one-of-a-kind experience. Gradually, one stone at a time, my craftsmen revealed their inherent knowledge in managing the buildings’ structural elements. Above all, they stubbornly focused on ensuring that the neighboring buildings, inseparably linked to each other, retained their precious and fragile integrity.

Today, the lodgings you’ll be staying in and I can never resist an opportunity to talk about them to you, our guests.

The antique pieces of furniture we found lying about were repaired and given their rightful place in the new, refurbished spaces, helping us to maintain the ambiance of the traditional Cycladic homestead.

The “Crossroads Inn” is the result of my own personal vision. It would not have come to fruition were it not for my family, my loyal friends, and the residents of Tripotamos, the scenic village on Tinos where “Crossroads Inn” is located.

It is my most fervent wish to share with you the result of this collective effort.

I can’t wait to welcome you here: you’ll feel the breeze caressing you; you’ll bathe in the playful conspiracy of light and shadow; you’ll become part of the talks and strolls of the village’s people in their gardens, the tiered and vaulted alleyways; you’ll hear our church’s bells toll, you’ll sample our authentic local fare. Nothing would give me more pleasure than pampering you and lavishing on you the care and attention we traditionally offer our guests and that you so richly deserve.

Why Ourania Diamantopoulou chose Greece

Because you'll love it!

The Crossroads Inn Traditional Lodgings on Tinos Island, express the charm of living the local life in the Cycladic village of Tripotamos, offering you the almost lost art of an “at home” ambiance during your holidays and inviting you to live an unforgettable experience. We have taken great pains over the decoration, over the works of art taken out of the personal collection of the proprietor (who is also the architect of the “Crossroads Inn”), and over the arrangement of your living and sleeping quarters. Together with the non-intrusive relaxation the aesthetics that the Cyclades offer, they become the motive for our guests to enjoy their holidays feeling “at home”.

The Crossroads Inn has a capacity of four Traditional Lodgings. Under the watchful eye of Ms. Ourania Diamantopoulou, who designed and built the lodgings, and the care provided by our staff, our Traditional Lodgings are here to meet, in the best possible way, the needs you may have during your stay. They are ready to welcome you, offer you all the comfort of a real home so that your stay at this gorgeous and scenic location in the heartland of Tinos may become one of your most precious memories.

What makes this villa unique

Our “Crossroads Inn” is a labour of love: with great respect, we have united the past with the present and the traditional with the contemporary. From the very beginning, the aim of the “Crossroads Inn” Traditional Lodgings project, was to enrich our guests’ alternatives: to give them the pleasure of spending their vacation in the tranquil and one-of-a-kind traditional ambiance of the village of Tripotamos and of returning home taking away with them the coziness of actually having “lived the life local” at a village of the Cyclades island cluster.

Tinos keeps the old ways and lifestyle of the Greek islands, the authentic picturesque villages that one hopes to find on a Greek island and the simple Greek cuisine that Greece itself is famous for.

Tinos is famous amongst Greeks for the Church of Panagia Evangelistria, its 80 or so windmills, about 1000 artistic dovecotes, 50 active pictursque villages and its Venetian fortifications at the mountain, Exobourgo. At times imposing, at others calm, and sometimes even mystifying, the great variety of landscape of Tinos is unique in the Aegean Sea. Touring the island turns out to be a rather seductive discovery of natural beauty: beautiful picturesque villages, rocky trails, beaches with crystal clear waters, dovecots, mills, chapels, threshing floors, dry-stone walls, caves and granite boulders, carved by the winds.

Tinos Island is also well known for its famous sculptors and painters, such as Nicholaos Gysis, Yannoulis Chalepas and Nikiforos Lytras. The Conference and Exhibition Center in the town hosts the permanent exhibition of Giannoulis Chalepas as much as other temporary exhibitions. Also in the town is the Museum of Tinian arts and in Pyrgos village are the Museum and the House of Chalepas and the Museum of Marble Art.

Behind the village, to the north, you are gazing at the dominant, bare Rock of Exombourgo where the ruins of the medieval city of Tinos and the traces of earlier cities dating back to the Prehistoric and Geometric Eras are located. During your stay at Crossroads Inn don’t miss our Traditional Cycladic Breakfast that combines the authentically Cycladic hospitality we offer with Tinos’ exceptional culinary tradition. It features only the purest and freshest products the land of Tinos yields. It also offers local delicacies that are worthy ambassadors of the Mediterranean diet as they combine the flavors, aromas, and ingredients of our island’s traditional cuisine. We carefully select local producers with our sole criterion being the respect and care they show for their products and for our island’s tradition. It is the only way we can make sure that quality is guaranteed, that Tinos’ rich culinary tradition takes its rightful place, that the local economy is sustained, and that your breakfast is as delicious as it is wholesome. After all, it’s all part of our philosophy here at the “Crossroads Inn”.

During your stay you may come with us and walk among the verdant vines of our vineyard, following the steps of the winegrower, get to know the vineyard itself, experience the actual winegrowing tasks throughout the year’s seasons, and sample the grapes bursting with juices at harvest time. When dusk falls, the vineyard becomes a magical place where you will relax as the vines rustle, sip on our own wine, and nibble on our homemade traditional delicacies as you gaze out towards the Aegean Sea and the island of Delos.

Furthermore, if you wish to do so, our hiking team will take you over trails that slowly unfold before your eyes all of the secrets of our land, the land of Tinos. The trails we follow during our hiking outings are out of the ordinary so that you get to see all that our own eyes see and all that makes us proud of our island: the undiscovered side of the island! As we walk together, we will let you in on folds of Tinos you never thought existed as we will tell you about little-known historical details, about the island’s lore, legends, and tales. Follow us to a hiking journey like no other that will make all of your senses come alive!
