Charming farmhouse with swimming pool among Brunello vineyards

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,291 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

House with panoramic terrace, private garden and swimming pool

La Fuga (The Escape) is a charming farmhouse nested in the tranquillity of the Tuscan countryside. It is located near Montalcino (41 km from Siena) in the land of Brunello, one of Italy’s most famous wine producing areas. The rural surroundings make it a very quiet and peaceful dwelling, the only noises the swallows flying joyfully in the sky just before sunset.

The house has been recently re-styled, yet it maintains the character of an old-style Tuscan farmhouse. It is fully equipped and very comfortable for 5 people. One of its main features is the beautiful terracotta terrace overlooking the vineyards and the rolling hills in the distance. Views are truly breath-taking and one would only wish to relax here at the end of a long summer day enjoying a glass of Brunello and meditating on the beauty of the surroundings!

The pool, for the exclusive use of our guests, offers sunny areas as well as relaxing shady spots where a pergola gives extra shelter for outdoor dining.

Many are the spots to visit, but if one day you prefer the peace the house offers you can have a chef in villa cooking for you or book him for a cooking lesson or a "chefmom" service. Or visiting our cellar where we produce our Brunello. The visit is offered to our guests. And if you enjoy wine and want to know further about our production, a visit to our cellars in Nozzole near Greve in Chianti will be also offered : a lovely and lively village, the heart of wine making. An opportunity to see another beautiful part of Tuscany, the florentine province.

About Angela

The family owner of the property has been making wine since the late eighteenth century and adopted the mission of developing, producing and distributing the finest Italian wines throughout the world.

Our family has been producing wines in Tuscany since the beginning of the 1900 and have created many award winning Tuscan crus. La Fuga is set in the middle of our vineyards, which produce Brunello, one of our crus.

Angela purchased this farmhouse in 1971

Why Angela chose Camigliano

Ambrogio e Giovanni Tenute', one of Tuscany's most renowned wine producers, acquired La Fuga Estate in 2002 to complete their portfolio which includes properties in the best wine producing areas of Tuscany. The lovely home has a wonderful terrace with a breathtaking view of the vineyards and the Montalcino Countryside. It is located just above the wine cellar where the La Fuga award winning Brunello ages for at least 2 years in oak barrels.

The Folonari family has decided to open the house to visitors willing to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and appreciate one of Italy's grand crus, Brunello di Montalcino.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The views from La Fuga are truly breathtaking - the estate extends over 25 acres of rolling hills and vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see, with the grandiose Monte Amiata, in the background.

This charming dwelling allows for a real Escape it's name being 'La Fuga' a heavenly retreat for wine aficionados. It is tucked away in the heart of Italy's most famous wine-producing area: Montalcino, home to the classic full-bodied Brunello di Montalcino.

Guest at La Fuga will enjoy personal tours of the wine-cellar beneath the property.

A range of services can be offered to make your holiday a real experience. Book well in advance for your arrival dinner, your cooking lesson or chef in villa. If you are interested in knowing more about wines you are welcome to visit our cellar; our estate manager will be happy to guide you. Furthermore a free visit to our cellars in Nozzole near Greve in Chianti is offered to our guests.

What makes La Fuga unique and true to its name is that here one can really feel at home but yet easily disconnect from everything, experiencing what a true holiday should be.

“The Escape, the most beautiful stay in the world!” cit. One of our travel agents.

The wine estate manager, who is also the house manager, lives in a total independent part of the property. You will hardly see him unless you need him for tips and advice on the area or for any particular need regarding your stay at La Fuga. He will be happy to help you and show you our cellar.

We are in the open country and wild animals, insects and crawler live here. Although it is not so easy to encounter them please pay attention and dress accordingly execially during certain times of the year.

Everyone dreams to escape, La Fuga is the reality.

  • 5 of 5

If you have an idea, a dream to escape modern life for a while, if you are looking for the ideal place for this to be realised, then search no further. La Fuga, and excuse the pun, but it does exactly what it says on the tin. An escape. You do not need to be a wine connoisseur to stay here. You can learn if you want or you can just relax and gaze at the valley of vines that spread out before as you lay by the pool or relax in the evening on the terrace. The house has everything you need, is very comfortable, clean and maintained to a very high standard. The wifi worked through the house and by the pool, but after day 2 this was not used as we reverted and became human again by just reading books and allowing the valley and timeless day to take us back to a time when you relaxed on holiday. Head to the nearest town of Montalcino and stock up with everything you need, or venture out and visit local villages and vineyards for lunch. There is no hard sell on wine, its there if you want it. Head to Grosseto about an hour away for a larger supermarket, a lovely drive through the Val d' Orcia, top it off with a swim in the sea. There is so much to do here using La Fuga as your base to tour or just relax. We opted for the latter. You need a car which helps you get into Montalcino for some restaurants or just a change for an evening head into the small village nearby of Camigliano and dine with Massimo and Antonella at the Trattoria el Galletto. Its a small Trattoria with an outside area overlooking the valley, so make sure you call and book, it might be remote but their food is popular. La Fuga is a working vineyard, and the estate manager Davide is on site to help, they have to tend the vines so there is the distant hum of a tractor, but watching the locals working on the vines by hand across the valley in way that hasn't changed for years, makes you realise you have stepped back from the rat race. One last thing, is that beneath the terrace and house is the result of the tended vines, large wooden barrels of Brunello wine, quietly sleeping and maturing for five years, a process that the Folonari Family have nurtured for generations. A commitment that they have extended in developing La Fuga, by ensuring that your stay and communication with you before and after is personal. Nothing is too much trouble. Enjoy La Fuga.

Amazing stay in the middle of the wineyards!

  • 5 of 5

We love Italian wine and food, and the stay at La Fuga made us happy on all counts. Waking up in the middle of the wineyards was priceless. This is a working wineyard so you do hear the humming of tractors early in the morning, but it is part of the experience. The house is beautiful, didn't need AC despite outside temperature above 30C, and the terrace has amazing views. Many great meals took place there, we cooked beautiful food from the market in Montalcino, a city spared of the curse of mass tourism ( unlike San Giminano, more crowded than London's Oxford Street). Camigliano next door is a gem of a village, and we were lucky to be invited to a party there - people are friendly and the little Osteria has good food and a hearty welcome.

We loved our stay, could not recommend more!

La Fuga is a great starting point to discover the nearby towns of Montalcino and Pienza, as well as Siena. Everywhere in this part of Tuscany visitors are amazed by the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning sceneries of fields and vineyards that look like private gardens; no wonder people are sad when they leave!

The area offers many opportunities for beautiful excursions in many spots where nature is still unspoilt. You can admire the rocky red soil erosions, the so-called "Calanchi", the unique landscapes of the Val d'Orcia and the typical vegetation of the "macchia" where wild boars, foxes, porcupines and deer roam freely. At dusk, you will be mesmerised by the singing birds and the beauty of fireflies flying on the crops.

It is highly recommended to have your own car since we are in the countryside and there is no public transport in the immediate vicinities of the house.

Remember that we are in the open country and wild animals, insects and crawlers are living here. Although it is not so easy to encounter them please dress accordingly and don't walk bear feet.

The next town is Montalcino: a medieval town, almost fairy-tale, with narrow and steep streets, surrounded by fortified walls and dominated by an ancient castle of authentic architectural perfection. The town, almost intact since the16th century, is immersed in the splendid landscape of the Natural Park of Val d'Orcia and is renowned throughout the world for its extraordinary production of Brunello di Montalcino. On of the landmarks of Montalcino is the tall and slender clock tower that graces the Palazzo dei Priori, the city's town hall, while below lays the main square known as Piazza del Popolo with its characteristic Gothic loggia. Also worth visiting are the Palazzo Vescovile and the churches of Sant' Agostino, Sant' Egidio and San Francesco.

The territory, characterized by a dense forest and interspersed with traditional cultivations of vines and olives, is part of the scenarios of Val d'Orcia recognised in 2004, a world heritage site.

At 9 km from the Centre of Montalcino, in direction of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, rises the solitary Abbazia di S. Antimo, whose monumental Temple (12th century) presents itself as one of the highest examples of French Romanesque in Italy.

In addition to high-quality wine production, where Brunello indisputably rules, this area of Tuscany has qualified productions of honey, extra virgin olive oil, typical salami and cheeses that can be savoured at restaurants and wine bars throughout the area.

The "Spring Festival" in May, the "Honey Week" at the beginning of September and the "Sagra del Tordo", which takes place on the last Sunday in October, allow guests to experience the local culture through the evocation of ancient traditions.

Regional cuisine week from April, the Spring festival in Montalcin in May,, The week of Honey at the beginning of September and the Festival of the Thrush on the last sunday of October offer the chance of discovering local culture through the evocation of ancient traditions.
