Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Saint-Étienne-du-Grès - Cabane de La Lèque

60 m² 2-bedroom cabin with kitchen, living space, bathroom and toilet

In the heart of the Alpilles, let us make you discover our touristic rentals. First of all, the Provence welcomes you. The colour of the nature changes with the seasons. Around the terraces of our holiday cottages are spread the bright yellow brooms, the lavender that is aptly named, the reddish orange poppies, the blue iris and the changing green of the trees. But before reaching our wooden houses, let’s follow a forest path. It winds in the shade of a forest with maritime pines and by night, you can sometimes meet a sow with its small young wild boars. But let’s stay in the sun to enjoy the nature, the scent of the plants heated by the sun and the light. While vegetation is getting thicker on the path, you will glimpse our horses on the right. Maybe Coloane and Romeo will not raise their head but during your stay in our wooden houses, if you bring them some hard bread or carrots, you will definitely not leave them indifferent. There you go, you are almost arrived. Look on your left, it is our house. It is very likely that we will wait for you in front of the wooden boxes to guide you to your holiday cottages: 2 small adjacent back-to-back cabins in the shade of big trees. By going down the path, have a look on your left on the vegetable garden. Maybe some tomatoes are ready to be enjoyed. But you will pick them later because it is time to arrive home. In front of the first wooden house, a small driftwood creation of Bruno will shelter you from the sun during your meals. We are sure that the first meal will start with a bottle of rosé from the Alpilles waiting in the refrigerator to welcome you. Let’s go inside this first holiday cottage. First of hall, there is a large living room with built-in kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, etc.). The sofa as the lamp and all the pieces of furniture of the house are made by Bruno with scrap wood. In the bedrooms: beds with canopy, wardrobe, chest of drawer, bedside tables, etc. are made of wood. Bedroom 1 with double bed. Bedroom 2 with 2 single beds. There is a bright and cosy bathroom equipped with walk-in shower. Let’s go out to visit the second holiday cottage that, as for the first one, has a plancha to grill fish, meat and vegetables. In front of the house, a large fig tree offers enough shade for your meals. Inside, it is the same layout as in the first cabin, only the decoration changes. The furniture is also made of wood but is different as well as the materials and suzani brought back from our trips in Afghanistan.

It is time to let you settle in your wooden houses. Enjoy the song of the birds which are varied according to loyal guests. Your nights will be peaceful and rhythmed by the song of the Eurasian eagle-owl who nests nearby. Our holiday rentals well deserve their name. You can go sightseeing during each season. Opened to nature in spring, autumn and summer, they become cosy and comfortable in winter. In autumn and winter, have a good time far away from the cities. For a 2-stay, the 3rd night is offered.

About Bruno Lafforgue

Holiday cottages, touristic accommodations and cabins. These 3 words designate the same reality: a dream project that has become reality. Bruno is first of all a horse lover. He also loves people, chatting with them and sharing its passions (the Indians or books for example). Finally, he is an artisan. After starting working with leather, he is now inspired by wood for years. He placed wood pieces in his first Bed & Breakfast, Le Mas de l’Ange in Mollégès and then in Mont-Redon, a farmhouse in Camargue that is also had transformed into a Bed & Breakfast. But with the Cabanes de La Lèque in the heart of the Alpilles, he climbed one more step: they are fully made of wood including the furniture. In love with nature and its products, he also created a vegetable garden and gladly shares the vegetable. Its wife, Marie, is a journalist. She brought back materials and suzani from her many assignments in Afghanistan. Most of them are in the holiday cottages and in the guestrooms, on the walls or on the beds.

Bruno and Marie often go horse riding across the country. Food lovers, they bring back products that delight people during breakfast. Together along the banks of the Rhône, they search for wood rejected by the water that Bruno will use to make (combined with scrap wood as boxes, pallets, etc.) original and unique furniture for the holiday cottages. Receiving guests is the consequence of their way of life: a house full of friends.

Bruno Lafforgue purchased this house in 2007

Why Bruno Lafforgue chose Alpilles

For nature and horse lovers, having a stroll in the Alpilles is a true delight. But how did we get to these holiday cottages? During one of our strolls, we discovered this house on the hill. Love at first sight. After purchasing it, we faced reality: it was too small for our big family. Bruno who loves working with wood decided to transform the former stables into cabins. He got caught up in the game and manufactured almost each piece of furniture with scrap wood or wood gathered on the banks of the Rhône. The result is, in the middle of Alpilles, the wooden house of Snow White but with the comfort (dishwasher, microwave, electric heaters for winter, etc.). They all decided to open theses houses to guests and soon to anyone who wanted to stay here. The Cabanes de La Lèque was born. Touristic accommodations open all year round to share the Provence, make discover magical landscapes, discover small welcoming villages, taste an olive oil produced in the surrounding fields, take part in the regional celebrations, etc. Without forgetting all the walks, bike rides and horse rides available from the holiday cottages. All this is 2 h30 from Paris by high-speed train. Upon arrival, we will give you a bottle of rosé, “navettes” (specialty of regional biscuits) and a small oil can. Upon departure, many guests become friends.

What makes this house unique

Our holiday cottages have loyal guests: holiday-makers in couple or in family who think these touristic accommodations have unrivalled assets. It is true that in the middle of nature, in the heart of the Alpilles, in the quiet unspoilt Provence, it is uncommon to enjoy serenity, safety (children’s safety) and beautiful landscapes while fully enjoying the jewels of the region.

Perched on the hill between Fontvieille and Saint-Etienne-du-Grès, the Cabanes de La Lèque is located around 10 km from Arles, 20 minutes from Avignon and 40 minutes from the sea and the Camargue. Everywhere in the surroundings, cultural diversity is offered to art and curiosity lovers, children and adults: many festivals in summer and all year round, many historic and archaeologic centres and worldwide famous museums. As for leisure activities, they are numerous. Rock climbing 100 m from the cabins and nearby horse riding centre and golf course with paths (for all levels: GR6, Way of St James, etc.) that you can follow by foot, by bike or on a horse. Not to mention the sun that places the region in the top range of the sunniest regions and the gourmet specialties from olive oil and its mills to local cuisine (bistros or gastronomic restaurants), wine, honey, navettes and goat cheese. Without forgetting the pleasure of Bruno and Marie of sharing their good deals and addresses to fully enjoy your original holidays.

Jean-Claude

Bruno and his wife are super friendly, they even brought us some fresh organic vegetables for free. The cabin is lovely and the perfect place to enjoy silence and peace.

If you enjoy the outdoors, go there. Hiking, climbing, biking right at your doorstep. Getting to the cabin can be quite a challenge, the doubletrack is quite rough. Drive slow and careful and you'll be fine, we made it with a volvo v50, no problems.

There is wifi if you for free. Big shower with a nice sink. The toilet is in a separate room.

We had 38*C but the cabin stayed quit cool.

Overall a win!

Sehr schönes idyllisch gelegenes Haus

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

formidable

  • 5 of 5

From our holiday cottages, each season, there are many cultural and touristic events. Enjoying them while staying in a touristic accommodation means discover the Provence, the Alpilles but also the mythical places.

In summer, we recommend you the many cultural festivals of theatre, music, opera, art, cinema and photography (Avignon, Orange, Aix-en-Provence, La Roque d’Anthéron, Les Baux-de-Provence, Eygalières, Arles, etc.)

All year round, the region has many attractive poles for tourism adapted or everyone:

Arles that is located 15 km from our wooden houses is an active cultural centre. Must-see: Musée de l’Arles Antique that houses, among others, 2 unique works of art (the unique bust of Julius Caesar realised in his lifetime and a Gallo-Roman barge discovered in the Rhône in September 2004), the arenas built towards 80 A.D., the antique theatre and Les Alyscamps Necropolis, the many art galleries and the tower, which is under construction, realised by the architect Frank Gehry and designer of the Museum Bilbao. We are in the heart of Provence, do not miss the many traditional events to which inhabitants or Arles are attached (Provencal Christmas, “Course Camarguaise” (bullfighting), election of the Queen of Arles, “Fête des Gardians”, “pégoulades” (opening parade of the “feria”) or “Fête du Costume”.

In the Camargue National Park, close to our holiday cottages, the fauna and flora are preserved and you can see in the middle of nature free-wandering bulls, horses and birds. The wild beaches, the walks among the ponds and the sunsets offer a feeling of perfect harmony.

In Avignon, 20 km from our rentals, you will discover among charming walks, the ramparts and the Palais des Papes from the 14th century, the bell tower and the cloister of Saint-Martial Church, the many museums, the “hotels particuliers” (sort of noble townhouse) built between the 15th and 18th centuries and of course, its famous bridge.

Beaucaire and Tarascon, located on each bank of the Rhône in the heart of the Provence will seduce the archaeology lovers with its rich architectural heritage.

Les Baux des Provence, charming village perched on a rock, offers wonderful views of the Alpilles and a “Cathédrale d’Images” nestled against old stone quarries.

Do not forget the charming small Provencal villages that surround our holiday cottages and in which, throughout the seasons, take place traditional Provencal celebrations

Do not miss their famous markets that offer authentic products all year round and their many historic and archaeological sites: Eygalières (Mur ligure), Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (Glanum, Les Antiques and Saint-Paul-de-Mausole where Van Gogh has been committed), Maussane (Roman irrigation canals), Mouriès (unchanging courtyard under the plane trees), Fontvieille (Roman flour mill and aqueducts, Daudet’s Mill, Château de Montauban and Oppidum of Mont Paon) and Saint-Etienne-du-Grès (Notre-Dame du Château Chapel).

In the surroundings of our touristic accommodations, many old chapels are to be discovered through romantic walks in the Alpilles.

Outdoor sport and leisure activities

Number 1 of the sunniest regions, the Provence offer outdoor leisure activities during a big period of the year.

Within less than 1 h from our holiday cottages: swimming in Camargue and in the Gardon River at the Pont du Gard. 300 m from the property: climbing site of La Lèque. Nearby: golf courses in Les Baux and Mouriès et horse riding in Camargue. From the Cabins: Way of St James with many walks and hikes, GR6 and forest paths accessible to everyone.

Food

For gourmets and food lovers, the Provence offers many temptations

Among the local specialties and not far away from our rentals: olive oil not to be missed. Close to the Cabins, many oil mills and olive-growing properties offer visits (and selling) to discover the manufacture of this thousand-year-old product.

Wines with “Côteau d’Aix” or “Vin de Pays” designation are manufactured in the wine warehouses of the properties of the Alpilles.

There are also the many gastronomic or bistro restaurants that will make you discover the local. You must taste “aioli” at least once.

Currently, for a 2-night stay the 3rd night is offered.
